Sci-fi story with a uniquely fascinating premise.

In the 29th century there is no war, a very happy state of affairs arrived at in a most unusual way. The destructive nature of the unconscious mind was diagnosed as the cause of all conflict, so drugs quashing these negative impulses were standardised.

There was an interesting side-effect however. Everybody became a schizophrenic.

He's got two separate personalities inhabiting his body on a time-share basis. It all works out fine until he falls in love with his other personality's wife. Don't you just hate it when that happens?

More sophisticated studies of odd forms of deviancy in warped societies include Wyman Guin's "Beyond Bedlam" (1951) whose heroine rebels against the obligation to share tenancy of her body with her split personality's alter ego.

Wyman Woods Guin (pseud: Norman Menasco) (March 1, 1915 – February 19, 1989) was a pharmacologist and advertising executive best known for writing science fiction.
