Newlyweds Mr and Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy begin their married life at Pemberley quite blissfully but it is not long before the tranquillity they relish is cut short by a series of traumas. The formidable Lady Catherine de Bourgh makes little attempt to hide her distain for her nephew's wife. She is joined by Caroline Bingley, as sharp tongued and resentful as ever, in the sha ...more

A really very fun read marred by a somewhat ridiculous plot. Excessively Diverted was well written with minimal mistakes and got the tone right for a period piece. Unfortunately, for a substantial part of the book it seemed as though Shapiro felt that, like in most books, she needed to throw in some plot twists to draw the reader in. But no one reads a sequel to Pride and Prejudice for the plot twists. You want something warm and fluffy that feels good. A bit of information about the continuing ...more

I'm ashamed to admit just how long it's taken me to actually pick up and read this book. My mom got it for me when I was still in high school and it's been sitting on my bookshelf waiting patiently ever since. I am so glad I finally read it! I loved it! She kept so faithfully with Jane Austen's own ideal for her characters and even to her style of writing that I often forgot I wasn't reading an actual Jane Austen novel. Juliette Shapiro did so fantastically well in writing this sequel! If I ever ...more
To start off with the good: the characterization seemed to be pretty good (with a few exceptions), but I think I got this impression mostly because the book borrows heavily from the text of Pride and Prejudice. It's a funny and easy read though.
Now on to the bad: The plot is totally implausible (although there is not even very much of a plot at all) and the ending is as stupid as it can be. The punctuation is bad and there's a lot of tell instead of show.
In the whole I'm glad I bought the book

A nice sequel to Jane Austen's P&P; I don't usually read sequels to classic books as they are never as good as the original books, but I liked this one. It took no excessive liberties with Austen's characters and it is a very pleasant read, although the dodgy punctuation irritated me slightly - Juliette Shapiro needs a good proof-reader!!

I don't know why I keep reading sequels to Pride & Prejudice when they're all so reliably terrible, but I can't stop myself. I love P&P, it's my favorite book, and I'm sucked in by any promise of a little more of it.

This is not the worst sequel to P&P that I've read, but it's just awful, regardless.

Shelves: austenesque
so stupid i couldn't even finish it. the characterizations aren't bad, but the attempt at imitating an austenesque style of writing is ridiculous and the plot and actions of the characters are completely unbelievable.

This is an amazing read. I thought the character development was excellent and stayed true to Jane Austen. I was excessively diverted by this book, I loved reading in and could not put in down

Bleh. Don't bother with this one. Too much repetition from the original story, including another incident with Lydia and Wickam.

A light fun read if you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice but it's nothing to get super excited for, but it was fun.
