Often, authors write books and series and change the order later. A book could have been written in the 80s, but is #10 in chronology/timeline of the series. Where as a book written in 2015 could be #1, before the 1980s book, because it's a prequel. Things like this happen all the time. That's why you might see series lists for publication order and then storyline order, which can differ greatly.
Nicholas is a real live Knight in Shining Armor sent to comfort a heartbroken Douglass in 1988. Destined to be soul mates through all eternity, the two set out to clear Lord Nicholas' name and right the wrongs done during his Elizabethan life. Just as he gets used to the weird inventions and strangness of the twentieth century, they are whisked back through time to 1560 where Dougl ...more

I must say, this is best book of all by Jude Deveraux. About time-travel romance, finding and recognizing true love even if its separated by decades of time. So, you will get to read about Nicholas realising his true love in Douglass's modern t ...more
A Knight in Shining Armor takes place in England (1560-1988) and stars Nicholas Stafford as the hero and Dougless Montgomery as the heroine. It begins in 1564 to fin ...more
Parts of it seemed like a reporter was writing events that were happening each day. The author was trying too hard to make us not like Robert and his daughter. They were too bad to be believable. Dougless's reasoning didn't feel real to me. I wouldn't think or act like her. Conversations were not interesting. During parts of the middle the reading was tedious and I wanted the book to be over ...more
Its one of those books that impact you and stays with you forever. Love or hate the ending- it is a romance must read.
Going to make this short, because it's not so sweet :(
This was my second by Jude Deveraux, and I suppose my expectations were to the moon and back, seeing as how this is on nearly every top Historical Romance and time travel list that I've come across. My other by JD was The Black Lyon and it got two stars from me. So I think this will probably be my last by her.
A few reasons stand out for my dislike. First of all, I feel like her writing is very dated... ...more

Upon rereading this over 10 years later, I can say that it is not exactly what I remembered. I cringed at how weak and pathetic the heroine was. The "falling in love" part didn't have the spark I remember; what does Nicholas see in Douglas in the first place??? She's a basket case who allows men to walk all over her.
So "the thrill is gone"... Below is my review of what I remembered of the story. This book just doesn't stand the test of time for me.

In 1990 I was a senior in high school, and I was friends with my music teacher. It was one of those odd things I never understood how it happened, though I think it started when the drama teacher cast me for the lead in Fiddler on the Roof but I couldn’t sing. (That’s a long, weird story. Don’t ask.) She was charged with fixing that minor detail, which led to a lot of before and after school private lessons. At this point of my life things were starting to come seriously apart. I’d weathered som ...more
As my degree is in English literature, I appreciate good fiction. This is poorly written, populated by caricatures rather than characters, in a style that can only be described as unsophisticated. The "heroine" is shallow, the "hero" self-absorbed, and the male antagonist l ...more
What a remarkably beautiful story! I loved this, even despite the somewhat controversial ending, I really loved this. When poor, down on her luck, Dougless Montgomery gets jilted by her boyfriend and left to fend for herself in rural England, at a church no less, she accidentally summons Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck. The fact that he happens to be a knight sent from sixteenth century England baffles the both of them. She cried for a knight in shining armor, she prayed to be give ...more
The writing was at times weird but overall good, but the story, the ending... Horrible.
That is NOT a happy end! It's actually really sad and depressing!
(view spoiler)[The main dude ends up living his whole life without her! In love! Not being able to be with her! He dies alone when he is old!!!! That is not a f*cking happy end no matter what b*llshit she invents for the heroine in present time!!!! (hide spoiler)]["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Two star for the orginality of the story-line.Even Though that too it was a bit of a drag at times. :/
Qué pienso de esta lectura???
Bueno, desde el principio hace bastante tiempo que tengo este libro para leer. No se que me llevó tanto tiempo pero al fin lo leí pero me encanto!
Ame a Nicholas!!! Es perfecto! Douglas es increíble.. sólo que lloraba mucho en el correr del libro pero es entendible por lo que le sucedió.
