Even though the title turned me off of the book a little, I love the author, Melody Carlson, so I decided to read it any way. And trust me the book was much better. "I Heart Bloomberg" is the first in a series about four diverse, young women living in one house together. In this book they all meet each other for the first time and move in together. Each one moving in with different motivations and very different expectations. Anna, Lelani, and Megan are all excited to move in to Kendall's house...more

This book is the first in a set about four women living at 86 Bloomberg Place. Kendall, the owner is obsessed with shopping and has racked up loads of debt. She also suffers from an eating disorder, is self-centered, and lazy. To avoid getting a job she decides to get renters. Megan, who lives in an apartment with 3 other girls on a college campus has to escape her sleazy roomate Bethany. Anna, the pretty Hispanic, wants to escape her overprotective mother and have some of her own independence....more

My first 'christian' fiction. Possibly my last. I found the 4 girls to be caricatures, and Megan, as the only active Christian in the bunch, is written as a Mary Sue, the most virtuous and able of the 4 girls, the only one who doesn't have a skeleton in her emotional closet. Kendall is written as her polar opposite. She is a narcissistic train wreck that you can't turn away from. She is mean, clueless, alcoholic, shopoholic, bulimic, self-centered, entitled, as spoiled as she can be. We all know...more

This book wasn't one of Melody Carlson's best, but it was still good. I felt that I need to read the rest in the series (which I will) to get the whole plot. But she still weaves interesting characters together and makes an interesting story. I would have liked to know more details about, well, for example, Lelani's story. But I'm assuming that those details will show up in the sequels.

A few more notes: I forgot to mention Kendall's character. She is so obnoxious!! If that isn't resolved in the...more

A fun look at what it's like for four girls who are complete strangers from different backgrounds and with different personalities to move in together.

I was captured from the first page by the girls in this book. Though I must confess Kendall did not grow on me until the end of the book, but the other three girls all touched at a part of me. There is the striking beauty from Hawaii who was a premed student but has dropped out and headed to the mainland leaving a secret behind. There is Anna, the...more

An okay read...but yet again, one of my major beefs with Christian Fiction rears its head.

This isn't a complete story. It seems that if you ARE interested in a complete story (you know--where problems that are introduced get solved and plotlines get resolved) you have to buy _three more books_. I'm sorry, but this is soooo not a $40 story.

Don't get me wrong; the setting and characters and premise were enough to keep me engaged. The references to religion weren't heavy-handed or out of place an...more

I Heart Bloomberg is about one obnoxious woman named Kendall whose grandmother gave her a house. She decides to rent out the extra three bedrooms as a way to make some extra money so she doesn't have to work. The house is in pretty bad condition, and the amount of rent she wanted was too high. So the three girls she decides to rent the rooms to talk her down in price in exchange for fixing up the house a bit.

I feel like I just gave away the whole plot. In a way, I did. There's really not a whole...more

It's classic chick lit, but it was entertaining. I probably like it more because the characters are in the same phase of life as I am.However, it seems to me that the 4 main characters have a little more depth to them then your average chick lit book. And even though it is a "Christian" book, only 1 of the characters is a Christian (that we know of) and she's definitely not perfect, I like that Carlson makes her real. However, all the other "non-Christian characters have for some reason good mor...more

Where to start on this book? It started out as a light hearted chiclit book. I guess it ended that way too, but boy did I HATE this book. Megan was pretty much a mary sue. Everyone except Kendall and her boss thought she was the best thing since sliced bread. Kendall is my least favorite character ever. Actually, maybe she passed Twilight's Bella and is #1. There was nothing likable or redeemable about her. She was like Paris Hilton only worse. At least Paris sort of works. The plot was pointles...more

I’ve read two Christian literature books that were available free from the Kindle for iPhone now and I think the low ratings I’ve given for both books isn’t so much because Christian literature is bad as it is that the books that are free on the Kindle for iPhone are bad. There’s no way around it: this is just stupid, not very well-done chick lit. I do think it’s interesting to read a book whether a main character really believes in God and has faith though, so maybe I’ll try to hunt down a bett...more

This first book of the Bloomberg series sets things up for the following books. As such, not a great deal happened, but we did get to know the characters and the house on Bloomberg.

It is definitely chick lit, but a little more than that as well. Yes, it's light, easy reading, but it also opens the door to a number of issues that young women face. And the main characters all have issues (one more than the others).

It was these issues in the four main characters that actually kept I Heart Bloomber...more

This was a quick read, not too deep, but realistic. The story lines and dialogue were a little cliche and a little unnatural, but the themes of the book and the struggles of the characters were very real and relatable.
The story follows four girls who are strangers as they move in together. They each have their own story and their own reasons for wanting to be on their own, and as they come together there are some clashes and some drama but they are all learning to be on their own and grow up at...more

This is my second Melody Carlson read. Both books were free offerings for Kindle, and I am all about the free. In the new 86 Bloomberg Series, Carlson takes four young women from entirely different backgrounds and throws them together as roommates.

Megan is a recent college graduate struggling with the death of her father. Her current living situation is messy and chaotic. Her roommate parties frequently, brings guys home, and in general upsets Megan's Christian lifestyle. She is ready to make a...more

I really enjoyed this book, although I can't say it should be labeled a "Christian" book, as no real Christian values were discussed. One of the girls is a Christian, although that's just talked about a few times but never really acted on.

I think it was a good book, but I'm hoping her next three in the series are a lot better. The characters weren't too cliche, which I really liked. They all had their own struggles and internal battles and it'll be interesting to see how they work them out.

This is a fun read about four 20 something women who don't know eachother and then choose to live together in an old house in the North West. They are have different backgrounds and interests. The first book was mostly an introduction to the characters. I am anxious to read further books in this series and see how the characters grow and mature.

This book started out a bit strange, I felt..and I am not sure that I ever really came to actually like or sympathize with the heroine. It is not a book that grabs you, that's for sure. That said, I may still check out the second book in the series..we'll see. Probably won't spend a lot of money on it, though! :-)

Definitely a book for those in their 20s, although anyone could read. It only took me 7 hours to read. The characters are weak in developement. I'm sure there's more to learn about each character in the next 3 books, but easily could have been 1. Glad this was a borrow and not a purchase.

Melody Carlson, author of more than 200 books, returns with a new book, I Heart Bloomberg which will be released in April. Set in Portland, Oregon, the book is the first in the 86 Bloomberg Place series. Carlson takes a look into the lives and friendships of four new roommates. As you’ve probably guessed, the girls live at 86 Bloomberg Place.

Kendall, who received the house as a gift from her grandmother, has decided to take in renters in lieu of getting a job. Who wants to work when you can pay...more

I only give this book 2 stars because I DID finish reading. The characters were very shallow. I really wonder if the author received product kickback because many products were referenced throughout the book. For example: Clinque, Prada. I will not purchase the rest of this series.

This book was one of the free ebook on Kindle so I got it and finished reading it in a short period of time.

It advertised as something like Sex and the city Christian chick lit. It was definitely interesting to read if you want a light book but it's not great writing or anything.

This book is interesting. I like the relationships between the characters. It was a bit odd how quickly it ended though. I understand that this a series. I might be interested in reading the rest of it but not interested enough to pay money for them.

After reading some 50 pages of that book, I wondered what made me "buy" it and looking at my kindle history, I got it because if was free at the time. A girly book obviously, the kind I just cannot stomach. Certainly happy I didn't buy it.

i wouldn't say the writing is the best but i've not been overly impressed with the characters in ms. carlson's books. however, it at least keeps me reading and is the type of fiction book that is good to kill some time with.
Andrea Williams
I enjoyed reading the book. It was an easy read and the characters were engaging. I like the fact that the story continues on in the next book and we can find out more of what is going on at Bloomberg Place!
Dana
She's a Christian writer, which I didn't know. The book was surprisingly good. There are random mentions of God, The Bible, and Being a Christian which I'm not used to in a book, but the plot was cute.
Jodi
I had never read this author. It started off slow and I had trouble but then it was a fun read. I really liked all the characters and the content was light and fun. I will look for more books by this author.
Megann
It is an easy read but the author didn't get to the most interesting part of the story, which is the missing girls. The whole book felt like character development so it can continue as a series.
Krista
I share a Kindle account with multiple family members. I Heart Bloomberg was on it, so I gave it a try. It was a good quick read. Cute, but amazing. I probably won't read any more of the series.
