Can understand our pain as a reflection of the suffering in our own time — and to turn that recognition into service to others? This book refects the journey of human grace. All of us go through challenging times in our life. Our hearts break, we are hurt, and yet, we find strength to move forward. This strength to move forward is the essence of this book written to reveal the nature of one's soul's capacity to rise above ourselves and find peace in God.

I definitely understand why several ministers have said this is a foundational text to ministry. Nouwen writes with a poignant, intelligent perspective on ministry and loneliness and how to apply personal perspective to ministry. Nothing I write will do it justice, just let it suffice for me to say that I think everyone should read this book.

Counselors and pastors will benefit from reading this sensitive book on walking alongside someone who is suffering and in great pain. Henri Nouwen's voice is calming and unique- almost as if he were in the room...

The theory behind the book changed my life. The actual book is only so-so. Too much Nuclear Man stuff.

Some good stuff, I enjoyed the book. It contains some timeless wisdom and some that seemed stuck in time.

One of my all-time favorites in the area of ministry. Nouwen's insight is exceptional.
