Just goes to prove that sometimes middle-aged bitches like DCI Jane Tennison really are more interesting than young sweeties like DS Anna Travis... and that sometimes great TV shows really are more interesting than mediocre novels. There's more life and depth in one shot of Helen Mirren as Jane Tennison than in almost 400 pages of dreary writing about Anna's wardrobe, crush on her boss, and chirpy musings to the photo of her sainted dad before she falls asleep every night.

Anna Travis, DS, meets Langton, DC, and serves on her first murder investigation. Any wonder she falls for the famboyant Langton who deftly leads the murder team to solution and conviction of a serial killer. Anna proves herself as a detective and a person capable of facing down the killer in the interrogation room where he ultimately confesses. Good murder mystery, fascinating characters.

A good plot and well written though I found Anna slightly irritating and wussy

Anna Travis's Dad was a great detective. But, now he's gone and Anna is a rookie in a squad who knew her Dad. And someone is killing women. And then it turns out that the prime suspect is a fairly well known actor who really does not seem the type at all. LaPlante wrote Prime Suspect which is great BBC TV. She knows how to tell a story and this sure does not disappoint.,

By the author of Prime Suspect this book introduces a new cop called Anna Travis. I didn't want to put this one down. Lynda la Plante is up to her usual high standard. We all know who the prime suspect is, but will the cops be able to prove it? Excellent reading.

This author is famous for the Prime Suspect series where Hellen Mirren brilliantly plays the female detective protagonist. In this series she introduces a new female detective (very young) who is starting out. I enjoyed it and plan to read the sequels.

Wonderful start to a new series. Drew me in from the beginning. Loved all the characters. Picked it up as it is by the author who's books turned into Prime Suspect. Will be searching out those books as well.

I became interested in English writers of the crime and mystery genre when I lived in London. THis is not her best novel but it is good.

Draws you in from the first page. It took me a month to read only because of extraordinary obligations that dug into my reading time.

One of the best starts to a series of books I have read in years. A must for those who like murder books with strong plots.
