The language in this book is very straightforward with no extraneous frills, making it a great choice for new chapter book readers. Each story is fast-paced and well-plotted, and Amelia's sense of humor and intelligence kept me turning the pages so quickly I finished the book in one sitting. Hers is a unique voice that stands out from other chapter book heroines, and while the setting of the stories is familiar, the focus on spying and bringing down forces of evil will attract kids who like adve...more
Amelia, a nine year old finds herself at a petting zoo with her mother and numerous "little" children. Definitely an uncool place for a secret agent so Amelia went exploring while her mother spoke with an acquaintance that she recognized standing watching the small children and small animals. Amelia's senses drew her into a confrontation with a mad scientist intent on taking over the world. Would Amelia and her backpack full of secret agent tools be sufficient to foil this villain? This is an upper elementary level reading novel. Definitely designed for kids because while I love YA, I thought this was not very entertaining. Amelia, the main character, wants to be a secret agent. In three different stories, she finds people that are trying to take over the world and then she stops them.
This is a good book to recommend to our young readers with high reading levels. It includes three short mysteries, one about robotic animals, one about a music teacher, and yet another about two dastardly bakers with an evil plot. Amelia, a secret agent, and elementary school student, loves a mystery!
