Upon putting this book down after finishing the last story, I searched for some kind of overall response to the book, and all I could think of was... lukewarm.

For one thing, I was halfway through the collection before I found a story I liked, and then there were several very good ones in a row. So now I am faced with the dilemma of some very good writing and some very dull, all within the covers of the one book. Of course, all of these stories have been previously published in literary journals...more
