- Vogue was founded when the young Conde Nast was looking to have an outlet to broadcast fashion to the wider world

- Fashion goes in circles: initially clothes were bespoke, however made-to-order slowly became the norm

- During the economic prosperity days, fantasy clothing flourished; when economic is in the downterm, practical clothing flourished

- Vogue actually took off during the war ration days as people are looking for aspiration relief.

This book is well produced and printed with text and photos cleanly reproduced.
Polly Devlin contributes some interesting essays in ten year increments linking fashion trends with social and economic forces.
I won't be keeping this book in my library as I already have books showcasing my favorite photographers from this period. Of course they all did wonderful work apart from Vogue as well.
