In Fox in Socks, Dr. Seuss poses a treacherous, but delightful linguistic challenge for adults and children alike. It is also the only work by the famous children's author prefaced with a warning: "This book is DANGEROUS!" Through a series of vignettes on diverse subjects, Dr. Seuss melds his trademark silliness with near-lethal tongue twisters, including a variant on the infamous "The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick...more

This book is nothing more than a list of tongue twisters.
Each set of tongue twisters gets progressively harder and harder (not to mention more and more disastrous in the illustrations) until Mr. Knox throws his hands up in frustration, and it all starts over again.
Definitely read it before you read it aloud! I'd also recommend this book for the late stage of early readers - the words are just simple enough for them to actually be able to read them, while the wordplay is tricky enough to ...more

Ahhhhggghh...I never really liked this Dr. Suess book - it was very confusing for me - I learnt that language could be very tricky and that I had to slow down to understand - one word at a time!!!! - I remember entering into the world of the illustrations as if they were somewhere in the world I'd never travelled or seen - the book was somehow a hybrid of book (that I tried to read) and reality (like Fox in Sox's photo album) - at this stage it was entirely possible that Fox in Sox and his bizar...more

Read this book out loud if you want to sound like a big dork. It has lots of tongue twisters which my kids think is hilarious. Laughing at mom is fun. Let's read it again!
It's great for early readers too, but they can get a little frustrated with the tongue twisters. We usually only read a few pages a day to help eliminate that problem.
I hope this doesn't sound like I dislike this book, because I don't. We love to read it. And after awhile you get really good at it and all your adu...more

This is an evil kid's book, for sure. Pick it up and you'll be condemned to a near eternity of grueling tongue twisters. And your kid will love it... Not because it's one of Seuss's masterpieces, but because he or she will enjoy watching you sweat like a hog as you labor from page to page and go purple in the face while you silently (with any luck) curse yourself for buying the thing.

I think I first read this book to Nathan, also, so I am thankful to my darling nephew for that. But I have read it probably thousands of times to my own children, and aim to read it to my grandchildren when the time is right. My father was the funniest when it came to tongue twisters, and my mom was the crowned queen, so these books are a natural fit for my sisters and me.

It says "this book is dangerous" on the first page and warns you to "go slow". It's dangerous because the rhymes and riddles are such tongue twisters that you will be challenged to read this aloud. I laughed so hard as I tried to do so, and told myself that I will read it everyday (for myself and for Stig). This puts sally and her seashells far out in the ocean.

this was the first book i read. well, first i memorized it and pretended to read it; then me and my mom put some skills to the charade. so it's important to me. who sews sue's clothes? sue sews sue's clothes. slow joe crow sews rose on sue's nose...etc. it isn't much on plot, but what perfect story ever is?

probably my most favorite of all the Dr. Seuss books. Full of zany tongue twisters that will leave your tongue in a sling by the time you are done reading the book. My kids have enjoyed watching (or hearing) Mommy struggle with Luke Luck and the Beatle Battle in a bottle in a puddle.

Probably my favorite Dr. Seuss book as a child. I love the the way my mom read it - especially the part about the Tweedle Beetles! I've read it to my children and they like it to - but not as much as I did. I guess I just don't read it as well as mom....

Ok, I read this to my 4 month old and while she had NO idea what I was talking about, I was indeed talking and making her smile.
I recommend this one for all of us who enjoy speaking an infinite amount of nothing, such as myself.

Added this to my new beginning collection of Dr. Seuss books. It's wonderful! A real tongue-twister that elicited many smiles from my granddaughter as I read it to her. She loves rhyming books. Dr. Seuss is so clever.

It's hard to find good tongue twisters! But Dr. Suess's Fox in Socks is quite the twister of twists! My Grandma would teach us tongue twisters to practice our eloquence. So this one is perfect for memorizing!

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old daughter today. It's been quite a while since I have read it. I've always loved Dr. Seuss, but this is one of my favorites. I love the "tweetle beetle battle" part.

One of the most important things I learned from this book is that:
"Luke Luck likes lakes, Luke's duck likes lakes. Luke takes licks of lakes Luke's duck likes, duck takes licks of lakes Luck Luck likes."
