I will admit that I bought this book on the grounds it is illustrated by Rodney Matthews, an artist I have followed from University. The material in it is also fascinating too. I will admit my knowledge of Norse legends is basic if that. So a combination of easy reading (the book claims to be for 11 year olds - suits me) and great illustrations makes this a great book to read. Only problem is I have now discovered he has also done one on Greek Legends too so i guess i need to keep an eye out for ...more

Similar to the companion book on Greek mythology, this is a great way to introduce Norse mythology and culture to young readers. Illustrations and maps are beautiful and the book covers Norse culture and history as well.

Another book meant for children but which can serve as a pretty good reference source for writers who need some general information about the Norse.
Emylie
good introduction/basic info on Norse mythology. Enjoyed the Loki stories-he's definitely a mischievous troublemaker.
