A King should be strong, bold and fearless, but not this little guy. The King in this story has ten tall soldiers dressed in blue with tall red hats who come running whenever the King has trouble. Soon all of his soldiers are busy guarding various parts of his castle and it takes a very brave young Peter to help the King overcome his fears. It is a very enjoyable story. The illustrations are wonderful and each page has a theme.
I would use this book to discuss about sequencing with young students. I can ask many questions, "What was the first shadow that scared the king away?" "What happend at the end?" and so on. Children would love reading this book because they know that shadows are not going to harm them.
