I started reading Fairstein's books with the first of the series. I am at the point now where I will continue to read them because I am involved with the characters and want to see where their lives take them. However, the books are becoming a little cookie cutter. On a positive note NYC is one of my favourite places to visit and her books, up to now, have all taken place at various venues in that city. Through reading them I have had the pleasure of visiting some places in NYC I may not have go...more

The Met is the 'solid-info' stuff of this one (as Poe was of Entombed). That, and the innards of other theaters in NYC.
Another very readable, long (ca. 500pp.) page-turner, with Coop coming under threat near the end, as seems de rigueur in these. The rapid-fire ending is a bit disappointing in that it's contrived, and the chief baddie arrives quite late on the scene, so the motivation is not well woven into the fabric of the preceding plot-lines. Very readable, though, nonetheless. I'll read ...more

Fairstein's getting a bit closer to character development and insight, a little bit further from the narcissism that detracted from her prior efforts. At Last!
I still have a little complaint - how can she expect us to believe that she attends a demanding ballet class once a week and isn't crippled by it for at least 2 1/2 days afterward? How demanding can it be if she isn't? Either admit you do barre work and stretches and floor combinations during the week or drop the assertion that...more

A decent Alex Cooper mystery, but they're all getting samey. Only question is how Alex is going to get herself into trouble and who's getting her out of it. Interesting twists this book: Mike's recovery and Dan Bolin, unfortunately the latter disappeared as quickly as he was mentioned.
I liked that this was partially set at the Met, I know City Center and am curious as to whether any of this is true. I think that's what the best about Linda Fairstein's stories, the "other" New York.

Murder mystery by a first female and longtime assistant district attorney in NYC. Setting is the MET which was educational. I must get there sometime. I understood this author's life was partly the inspiration for Law & Order. So... story was quite adequate and reeled me in from page 1. But I prefer my other mystery author guilty pleasures with their fallible, colorful investigators. This was no courtroom drama, which is kind of what I was seeking.

I really enjoy Linda Fairstein's Alex Cooper novels. I like the personal experience she brings to the novels, I like the relationship between the main characters: Alexandra Cooper, Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, and I like the history of New York that encompasses every novel.
I liked learning about the Met. Opera House in this book.

I listened to this on audio which was fun although there was so much going on in the story it might have been better if I had read it. I would like to try some other books by Fairstein now that I've tried this one. I like the historical backstory on New York City.

As Alex works to indict a Turkish doctor of the drug-facilitated rape of two Canadian tourists, she also gets the case of a ballerina murdered at the Metropolitan Opera House.
Eighth in the Alexandra Cooper series. Highly recommend.

Good beach read, couldn't put it down at first but about three quarters of the way through I thought the pace slowed considerably which was slightly disappointing.

I love to read about the art and/or theater world.
the ending was about 20 pages too long but the rest was very interesting.I learned a lot about NYC.

Kind of bleak--everyone was a sleaze. But it was a good mystery, with a good final clash, and the relationships between the main characters were interesting.

a real who-dunnit in NYC. Highlights much of the structures and history of the Broadway theaters, while detailing an involved murder plot.

It's not very engaging nor well written. Would not recommend reading it, although Cooper has her followers.

Junk paperback picked up for traveling. Adequate for its genre; undemanding enough for distraction.

This was fun to read but I enjoyed "Bad Blood" more. I found the storyline to drag at times.
