We read tis book in a church group and I was surprised that it was as good and fundamental as it turned out to be. I had heard various things baout Rick Warren, including hints of his liberalism in various areas but had never verified that this was true for myself, but had no reason to read any of his books by myself. Hence I was pleasantly surprised when this book challenged me a great deal in my spiritual quest.
The first premise of this book was that we are born for His pleasure and Hi More...

Rick Warren is the pastor of a Saddleback Church, which currently has 10,000 Sunday attendees. He founded the church from the ground up and because of his success, he felt burdened to write this book with the intention of helping others to plant healthy, reproducing, purpose driven churches. The book records Warren’s convictions, strategies, failures, and biblical support for planting these churches. He is an advocate of the seeker sensitive church model, which has two separate services, one More...

I thoroughly enjoyed the ,"The Purpose Driven Life", so naturally I wanted to read this book. The Author ask, "What Drives Your Church?"
Everything church is driven by something. Traditions, finances, personalities, events, even the building can be the driving force. Rick Warren help me to ask that question about our church. This book give helpful principles and practical insights for pastors and church leaders of all denominations. Rick Warren says,"If you will c More...

Every Christian believer ought to take seriously the need for the Church to be and do what God designed it to be and do, as the Bible reveals this to us. (Tragically, too often we don't care about this --and the condition of our congregations shows it.) Warren (who is also the author of The Purpose-Driven Life) here describes the transformation of the local church he pastors into one in which genuine Christian nurture happens, and through which lost persons are regularly converted to Christ in More...

There has been a movement among missionaries and mission boards to encourage indigenous churches rather than merely exporting our culture to the rest of the world. The argument runs that the Gospel must always be enfleshed or embodied in a people and its culture. We cannot deny that the Good News of Jesus Christ must be spoken in particular human languages. Forcing Africans to worship like Scotsmen, does a disservice to African culture and the Gospel.

As I read Rick Warren's book, the More...

Until this book, I never thought much about how much influence Rick Warren truly has and has had for a couple decades. But this book truly showed just how much he has influenced people.

It seems to be that every church book that I have read has taken upon the wisdom explained simply in this book.

This book, more than any I have read in a long time, sparked me to desire to see the church built exponentially. His passion is remarkable and his desire to teach things in a More...

Gave me a new appreciation for the "seeker" church ideas. While I like the book, I can also see how pastors not well-grounded in faith could try to use these principles as a way to bypass the Holy Spirit in their decision making and in determining the direction of their church. But the book does spend some of its effort warning against that, so I won't hold that agains the book or its author.

What i really like is that Rick didn't write about theology in any way..Rich gives us in practical, contemporary terms what really works for today. Principles..principles..principles. I like his approach. This book have already transform the lives and work of many. Rick's work is just awesome.

Enjoyed it when I initially read it, but getting fed up with the "purpose driven" industry, and not totally convinced by the consumerist missiology that lies behind Warren's approach.

This is an excellent work on the purposes of the church. Nevertheless, I would not accept all of Rick Warren's practices uncritically. The five purpose of the church are excellent though.

A classic and must read. So many good ideas and practical insights. Warren's compassion and gently nature show on each page. A biblical and compelling ministry philosophy.

I read this while preparing for a retreat I was leading for a congregation. It is extra-ordinarily well written. Too bad I don't agree with his Baptist theology.

Great book that shows how the church can accomplish so much more if it applies some practical strategies. It's the Good to Great book for a church.

Warren's philosophy on how to "do church" has influenced more modern congregations than any other book besides the Bible.

I found this book very basic, not groundbreaking as it was sold to me. Did not agree with a majority of the premise.

This is a pretty good read but you must be aware that what works for one church will not work for every church.

Purpose drivel.... Pragmatism is the key doctrine of the church growth movement: if it works, do it! Hmm....

Rick Warren explains the importance of having a mission for your church and describes the five purposes he believes create a balanced church. Obviously he uses lots of examples from his own experiences as pastor of Saddleback Church. A highly recommended read for people in church leadership or people interested in influencing the direction of their church.
