It's entirely possible that, after 6 installments, the Falconhurst formula has lost its luster. However, I don't think that's the case. There was a huge dropoff in the "fun factor" for this one compared to all the rest. Maybe Lance was off his game and totally at a loss for plot, had no idea how to pace what little plot he did have, and generally didn't care what the end result was. This novel is truly insightful concerning slave times in the South. The viewpoints and perspectives from whites and also from the many slaves of varying skin-tones demonstrates where many racial stereotypes have originated from, even until these modern day times.
