This book beats the first 2 by LOADS! Perfect is, well, perfect! It is so suspenseful and wonderfully written. The characters are SO amazing with well-described thoughts, their own feelings, and their different actions that really allow you to understand what life is like for each girl.

I love the relationship between Lucas and Hanna, with Aria and Sean/Ezra coming in a close second. The relationship with Maya and Emily is nice, too, because they will do anything and face everything ...more

PERFECT starts out with a flashback to a time when Ali was still alive and part of the group. Ali receives a phone call but doesn't share with Spencer, Hanna, Aria, or Emily. But that's kind of how it's always been. Ali was always the leader. Playing the girls off each other and keeping secrets on each of them.

Hold on to your hats people! Things are getting serious. Like with the previous books in the series, PERFECT picks up the story right where FLAWLESS left off. When I picked up this book at my library, I expected it to be about these stuck-up girls, kinda like Gossip Girl and the A-List or whatever. Then I started reading it and I read it within an hour, it was that good. It's set up so well and you'll never be able to even GUESS what's going to happen next. It's not predictable, which is one thing I really like about it. It's weird that someone is stalking them. Aria, Hanna, Emily, Spencer, and Alison were all best friends until Ali was murdered and no one had answers. The girls started receiving texts from an anonymous –A character in the first book, who continues to stalk their lives even into the third book, Perfect. The four remaining girls had a fall out since Ali was the one who connected them all but –A had brought them back together.
Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna all want to move on with their lives and be free from the taunting texts from –A. Aria had been trying so hard to keep her father’s secret affair with Meredith from her mother but –A had different plans for her. Aria couldn’t tell her mother in time so –A did it for her. Outraged, her mother kicked her husband, Byron, and Aria out of the house. Aria then moves in with her boyfriend Sean who she stole from Hanna. She had feeling for Sean but her love for her English teacher, Ezra Fitz, overpowered everything else. Aria began seeing him again and –A sends a picture of them kissing to Sean who calls the police and gets Ezra put in jail.
Emily was too caught up in her own dilemmas to be worrying about –A. She was trying to save her secret relationship with her girlfriend, Maya. Emily was not publically gay; her family was very conservative and she wanted it to be kept to herself. Yet –A knew. She outed Emily at a swim meet by posting pictures of her kissing Maya at a party. Emily’s parents demanded that she either go to a de-gaying program, Tree Tops, or go to Iowa to live with her strict relatives and forbid her from seeing Maya.
Spencer also has her own busy agenda after dating her sister’s boyfriend. She always seems to want what her sister has, which led to her plagiarizing her sister’s essay for the Golden Orchid award. Spencer started going to her sister’s therapist and discovered that she has a tendency to block things from her memory. She remembers that the night of Ali’s murder, they got into an argument and she pushed Ali on a stone path. Spencer began to think she was the one who killed Alison.
Hanna has been bulimic for quite some time; she was called “Hefty Hanna” when she was teased. She stopped this behavior for a little but was turned down by Mona and her new friends for not doing it anymore. Hanna had a dress sent to her house to wear to Mona’s 17th birthday party although Mona uninvited her. Hanna went to the party and was completely humiliated when the dress ripped because it was too small. Mona and her clique laughed but Hanna was saved by Lucas. That night Hanna got a text from –A but this time the number wasn’t blocked and Hanna recognized it. She went to meet up with the girls to tell them who –A was but when she was walking through the parking lot, she was hit by a SUV. The girls then got a text from –A saying “She knew too much.”
There is so much history behind each character and it would be almost impossible to pick up the second or third book without knowing what happened in the first. That is what I love about Sara Shepard. Perfect was more than I expected it to be. She uses imagery that made me not want to put the book down. The chapter changes are my favorite; each chapter focuses on a different girl. Although the novel is in third person omniscient, the chapters are focused on one girl’s life at a time. Rosewood, Pennsylvania is made out to be this rich, perfect community where nothing bad has happened until Alison’s murder. The characters can be hypocritical like Aria for example. She was devastated when she caught her dad with Meredith but she cheated on Sean with Ezra at the same time. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries and chick lit. Some of the scenarios are extreme but people can actually relate to them since –A is a form of cyber bullying. I love this book and can’t wait to start reading Unbelievable.

Honestly... this was another one of those books where I had a hard time getting started on it, because they're so bloody dramatic! If my teenager days had been THIS insane, I don't know how I would have survived it, to be honest... I am IN LOVE with Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars series, and the third book in the series (after Pretty Little Liars and Flawless) is, well, Perfect. And saying that Perfect is pretty perfect isn’t hard.

This a gossipy, juicy, mystery that has had me at the edge of my seat since the very first page. I watched the tv series, before picking up the books. As a fan of the series, I’ve been very happy to see how well they kept pace with the books. I was actually a little worried after reading the first book, because I felt like the tv series would be ten years long if they kept up the same pace—And since the girls are supposed to be in high school, I didn’t see how that could work very well. But after reading the first three books, I see how brilliantly they flow together. And for those of you watched the tv series cliff-hanger—It coincides perfectly with the ending of Perfect.

There are just so many things going on in this series—everybody’s secrets seem to be repeating themselves, along with revealing themselves. And above all, who is A? What does s/he want with the girls? And what really happened to Ali?

Pretty Little Liars is a series about a group of girl who used to be friends…before Alison DiLaurentis disappeared. Alison was the glue-trap that held them together, the girl that the others told all their secrets to. And when Ali was gone, it was like the girls were finally free, and they all went their separate ways. Spencer is the preppy, straight A, overachiever who kissed her sister’s boyfriend years ago. Hanna is the beautiful, popular, IT girl, who used to be overweight. Before she got an eating disorder. Aria is the free spirit of the group, smart and thoughtful, searching for her true self. Aria’s family is the cornerstone of her world, until she catches her father having an affair. And Emily is the jock; a swimmer. But Emily might have loved Ali more than all the other girls; she’s afraid that she’s gay. And Ali knew every single secret.

Now everybody’s secrets are not only replaying themselves, but they’re multiplying—Spencer’s not only in love with her sister’s new boyfriend, she also stole one of her sister’s papers. Hanna is finally popular and has the boy of her dreams, but she still wasn’t perfect enough for him. Hanna’s popularity is poised to topple, just as her eating disorder threatens to return. Not to mention she’s an occasional shoplifter. Aria catches her father cheating again. Meanwhile, Aria’s fallen for her own teacher. And her boyfriend is threatening to expose them. And not only is Emily pretty sure she’s gay and that she loves Maya, but she’s pretty sure that her parents are racist and won’t love HER when they find out.

Right before she disappeared, Ali seemed constantly on the brink of spilling everyone’s secrets. Years later, when someone moves into Ali’s old house—Ali’s body is discovered…And it seems like all of Ali’s secrets—all of THEIR secrets have been discovered, too. The girls are living in an eggshell of perfect, and someone calling themselves “A” is sending the girls cryptic messages, threatening to expose all of their hidden cracks.

Who is A? What is A’s agenda? Shepard is a master at inserting doubt and mistrust. In Flawless, Aria had an assignment on the topic of untrustworthy narrators…which basically reminds us that we don’t know any more than the narrator, or each character, tells us. And to instill further mistrust, the paper Spencer plagiarized was on the topic of the “Invisible Hand,” a theory about people offering someone help for their own personal gain—As in, when A offers each of the girls some seemingly benevolent advice, in between menacing messages. I know the girls should have known better than to trust A, but when they don’t trust each other, when they can’t turn to their parents, friends, or teachers, who can they trust?

Not only do the girls' intricate web of secrets continue to unravel, but 'A's' identity also starts to show some loose threads, too.

Aria's family doesn't just unravel; it disintegrates. When her mom finds out about Byron – Aria's father's – infidelity and the fact that Aria knew about her father's affair and kept it from her mother, she kicks her husband out of the house, he goes to live with his former mistress and now girlfriend, and Aria's mother, Ella, starts to shun her daughter, at first because she kept Byron's secret and then because Aria, only eight pages into The Scarlet Letter, paints a red letter A upon her father's girlfriend's chest, further embarrassing her mother. This shunning and eventual banning from the house leads Aria to live with her boyfriend, Sean, only their relationship isn't all sunshine and roses either, partially because of Aria's lingering feelings for her English teacher, Ezra. Things go from bad to worse when she and Ezra are caught together, thanks to Sean, effectively breaking up Aria and Sean and sending Ezra to jail.

I liked the fact that, while Aria has been condemning her father for years for having an affair, she essentially does as well. While she might not have been married to Sean (with children), they were in a committed relationship, and she cheated. However, I can say that she was aware that what she was doing with Ezra was wrong, and she did try to avoid him and do the right thing (break up with Sean first), but Ezra was no help. In fact, he was the one pursuing her, despite the fact that their relationship was not only illegal but also unethical. I can't entirely avoid blaming Aria for some of her own mistakes, but I do think that, because Ezra was the adult, he should have been the one capable of making the more responsible decisions. Really, the poor girl only wants to be loved – like all four of our main characters, and I think he took advantage of that. In the end, though, all this heartache and Aria's homelessness led her to watching her old homemade movies from their former sixth and seventh grade group, and, by the end of the novel, she believed she had figured out who Alison's killer was.

But Hanna thought she had figured out who 'A' was, too. Before this, though, it was her relationship with Mona which unraveled. Blinded by her obsession with being the most popular, the most beautiful, and the skinniest, Hanna could not comprehend the fact that Mona really wasn't a good friend to her and that she could be happy without her. It wasn't until a former crush (one that Ali sabotaged) comes back into her life, Lucas, that she starts to see that she just might be worth more than being Mona's best friend. However, it must be noted that, before her social life completely fell apart, she didn't give Lucas the time of day. It could be concluded that not only is she transferring her dependency upon Mona to Lucas but that she is suddenly liking him simply because he likes her. This, though, has yet to be determined. I'll reserve my judgement until I can read how Hanna reacts to the changes in her life after more than just one evening of being a social outcast. Meanwhile, though, the final nail in the coffin of Hanna and Mona's friendship led to a taunting text from 'A,' but, this time, 'A' slipped up and forgot to block their number, a number that Hanna recognized, leading her to believe that she knew who 'A' was.

Emily's life unravels because she is outed. At a swim meet with a recruit from the University of Arizona there to talk with her, her parent watching, and hundreds of her fellow classmates in attendance, 'A' distributes copies of Emily kissing Maya in the photo booth from the party which took place in the first book of the series. This leads to her parents demanding that she attend a program to help her change her sexuality, and, if she does not agree to do this, they'll send her away to live with her ultra-conservative aunt and uncle in Iowa. Desperate to remain in Rosewood, Emily agrees and breaks up with Maya only for her mentor in the program to reunite with her girlfriend and confirm the fact that one cannot just change their sexual orientation. Even though Emily reunites with Maya, their time together is short lived when Emily's mom drags her back home with her future in the balance. Will her family allow her to remain at home, despite being gay, or will they send her away despite her pleadings?

And, finally, there's Spencer. First, Spencer keeps the charade of actually writing her Golden Orchid nominated essay going, even after she's interviewed for the front page of a Philadelphia newspaper and even after she becomes a finalist. More importantly, though, Spencer starts going to therapy, and, in therapy, she starts to question her memories of the night when Ali disappeared. Confronting her parents, she finds out that she, in the past, had blocked out a traumatic experience, and Spencer thinks that perhaps she did the same thing concerning Ali's death as well. After getting into a fight with her sister (once Melissa finds out about the plagiarized essay), Spencer not only pushes her sister down the stairs but remembers pushing and injuring Ali, too. But, if she's the killer, how did she get the body back to Ali's yard? Guilty of murder or not, Spencer's sanity is certainly in doubt as it is her mind unraveling.

Like with the previous two novels, Shepard manages to reveal some secrets and answer some questions, but, in the process of doing so, she only creates more. It's what keeps this series so intriguing, fast-moving, and addicting. What's more, at the very end of Perfect, 'A' takes drastic measures to keep their identity hidden, and, in doing so, seriously injures one of the four girls. So, now, not only are there the questions of who really did kill Ali and who is 'A', but readers are left wondering, when they pick up the fourth novel in the Pretty Little Liars series, if all four of their main characters will still be living. And, if not, just how exactly will this create even more scandal, even more secrets, and even more juicy lies for the girls to keep straight?

Just when the readers thought Sara Shepard’s series of Pretty Little Liars couldn’t get any better. Sara Shepard showed up again to prove the reader wrong. After breezing through the previous 2 books in this series I was eager to start the next volume. I ended up finishing it in one night, just like I did with the other two. The books are just that good.

This volume finds all of the girls starting to really feel the negative effects of their actions as well as feeling the true wrath of the mysterious A. Aria's getting kicked out of her house, but luckily her new boyfriend Shaun is there to pick up the pieces. I ended up finishing it in one night, just like I did with the other two. The books are just that good.

This volume finds all of the girls starting to really feel the negative effects of their actions as well as feeling the true wrath of the mysterious A. Aria's getting kicked out of her house, but luckily her new boyfriend Shaun is there to pick up the pieces. With love like that there's no way she could still be lusting after her teacher beau, right? Then Spencer's starting to panic because not only is she nominated for an award that she doesn't deserve, but now she's discovering that she has a nasty little habit that her parents never told her about. Emily's slowly starting to realize the truth about herself. Too bad that A's intent on kicking her out of the closet projectile-style. Then there's Hanna. Her BFF Mona hates her and her dad still hasn't called her after what her nasty step-sis to be did. She's also a step closer to finding out who A is- too bad that A has no intention on giving up that particular secret just yet.

I love this series. I never thought I'd get into a mean girl series, but I did. The previous books were a little rushed & the families were a little overly mean, but now we're seeing more characters & families that aren't as horrendous as our fab 4's families are. We're still no closer to discovering who A is, although it's fun to guess. My only lament about the book is that the way I'm breezing through them, I'll finish them before the series is finished. (Which means I'll have to wait for the next volume to come out rather than get to read it right away!)

Like in my previous reviews I will warn parents that there is sex and some violence in this series. However this is the 3rd volume, so I would hope that parents would be aware of the content by this point! Still, some parents will still want to read the books with their kids & discuss it afterwards. The books are fun to read & it's a great way to connect with your kids as you talk about the mature themes & puzzle over who A could be.

Perfect by Sara Shepard was awesome. Just when I thought her Pretty Little Liars series couldn't get any better, she proved me wrong. It was definitely the best book in the series so far. It had all the intruige, romance, secrets (yes, lots of secrets) that readers have come to expect. There was much more suspense this time though, more character development, and one amazing shocker of an ending.

Again, a no doubt, steady, and enjoyable read. The first half of the novel can be easily compared to #2 in the series. Each chapter tells an addictive story into another one of the character's flaws.

However, in the last half of this book, life-changing events happen that left me speechless!!

However, in the last half of this book, life-changing events happen that left me speechless!!

Mainly, Emily is outted by A and is forced to deal with the consequences of being "different." Her parents are furious and give Emily an ultimatum: either join Tree Tops (a group that helps gays/lesbians change their lifestyle), or move away to Iowa to live with her crazy relatives. She joins the group, but then finds her feelings for Maya impossible to avoid.

Next, Aria is kicked out of her home by her mother and brother that won't acknowledge her existance. She goes to live with Sean's family (Hannah's ex-boyfriend), but finds herself obsessing over Ezra, her english teacher. Ezra and her find themselves in an impossible romance, and when they finally decide to somehow make it work, the police burst in and arrest Ezra while he's with Aria.

Spencer starts seeing a psychiatrist who is able to help her unblock the unpleasant memories that her mind has managed to erase. She comes to realize that her and Ali fought the night of her death because Ali was secretly dating Ian (Spencer's sister's boyfriend that Spencer too, was in love with and kissed). Spencer now remembers shoving Ali hard, and Ali falling back into a rock and remembers hearing the crunch her head made and all the blood.

Hanna's best friend Mona shafts her and becomes best friends with their previous enemies. Hanna gets a text from A who mistakenly forgot to block her number. Hanna recognizes the number and when she calls the other girls to meet her at "their place" she ends up getting hit by a car and knocked unconscious. The other 3 girls then get a text from A saying that Hannah knew too much.

You thought she was your best friend, right? Well guess again. In the book Perfect by Sara Shepard four girls Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna learn that you can’t always trust everyone. That everything isn’t really perfect. While reading Perfect many questions kept circling my head like; “Who can we really trust? “ Who are real friends?” and “Can our secrets be safe with someone?”
In our society trust is the key concept in people’s relationships from friendships to marriages. It’s never easy to trust someone with something so precious and valuable like a secret. Sometimes I wonder why we keep secrets. Most of time secrets hurt the people we care about the most. For example in Aria’s situation, she kept the secret that her Father was having and affair with one of his student. Aria never told her mother until A (a person who keeps blackmailing her) threaten and told her mother about her daughters secret. Throughout the whole book Aria felt guilty and angry with her father. I found it wrong that her father made her kept the secret from her mother. I knew it was so arias family could stay together but I believe they were living a lie. Most of the times we keep secrets so we don’t hurt others but the guilt can eat us alive.
My parents had also told me that we shouldn’t keep secrets from each and that “true always comes out in the end” I try hard to follow this rule but it can be hard at times. My parents also told me to choose the good friends, friends I can trust. I guess that the only reason to know if you can trust somebody is that if that person honest and understanding. I think that everyone should be careful about who they tell their secrets to. “They’d bared their souls to Ali –telling her things they hadn’t told the others, things they didn’t want anyone to know..” (pg 60) these girls told every secret to Ali hoping she will keep them hidden, sort of like confession. I realize that if you don’t want anyone knowing your secret you shouldn’t tell one in the first time. Now these four girls have to be careful with their secrets because A can easily reveal them to everyone. ” Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret”

This book has a lot of twists and turns and really leaves you guessing at the end.
Emily's parents are mad and embarrassed that she is gay and wants Emily to go to Tree Tops, a place where they try to make people not to be gay. Wow, where Flawless only makes a small contribution to the Pretty Little Liars mystery, Perfect makes up for it tenfold. You discover the identity of Ali's killer, provided the author hasn't lead the reader on a wild goose chase. It also opens up many more questions about who hid her body, while closing more than a few doors on who A could be.

In Flawless I thought Emily's despicable parents had somewhat redeemed themselves, but it turns out they're even worse than Hanna and Spencer's...moreWow, where Flawless only makes a small contribution to the Pretty Little Liars mystery, Perfect makes up for it tenfold. You discover the identity of Ali's killer, provided the author hasn't lead the reader on a wild goose chase. It also opens up many more questions about who hid her body, while closing more than a few doors on who A could be.

In Flawless I thought Emily's despicable parents had somewhat redeemed themselves, but it turns out they're even worse than Hanna and Spencer's families. They're not as absent or domineering, they're just straight-up twisted. I was utterly disgusted at the thought of them sending Emily to rehab to be "cured" of her sexuality, or going to live with her Puritanical relatives who believe sexuality = evil.

I think the author did an amazing job here, because I was so frustrated and disgusted that half the time I couldn't decide whether I wanted to headdesk, stab the parents, or just sit there making this face D: for an hour. It's so fucking backwards that it just makes me sick. Emily's parents better explain away their hatred in the next book, or I think I just might explode.

I think it's almost as bad that A would reveal Emily's sexuality the way they did, and how they would embarrass Hanna at Mona's party. I knew they weren't playing games, but it seems like they've taken a slightly more evil turn - which was obviously cemented by running Hanna over with the car. If they don't meet a painful demise in book 8 I know I'm going to be seriously displeased. >:|

On a ~lighter note, I LOVE what's happening with Spencer and her descent into madness. I love that she finally snapped and pwned Melissa, and I love that she's finally figured out that she's Ali's killer. I've had suspicions about the hypnosis and Spencer since the first book, but thought that maybe all 4 of them had killed Ali and blocked it out. My interest was definitely piqued by clues and A's epilogue in Flawless, and I figured it out early on in Perfect. Now I'm just worried that Spencer didn't actually kill Ali, and that the author will explain it all away as Spencer being stressed and crazy.

After the events of this book it's safe to say that I no longer suspect Mona or Ezra as A, and obviously not Ali's killer. I figure Ezra wouldn't have dobbed himself in for his tryst with Aria, and Mona just doesn't seem like she's A based on her confusion over the lipo rumour. I'm 90% sure she's going to the burns clinic for her own treatment though, and I'm interested to hear the story behind that and if she's friends with Jenna.

I still suspect Jenna, especially since she was conspicuously absent from this book. I feel like the author was trying to deflect attention and suspicion away from her, since she's supposedly blind and incapable of being A. I don't think Mona is A per se, but I think she could be in cahoots with Jenna because the burns clinic is just too much of a coincidence.

Since Lucas has actually been introduced in the books, I guess I'm free to suspect him too. I'll have to read on though to confirm my suspicions, because he doesn't seem as obvious and self-incriminating as he is in the show. I'm also suspecting that A and the person who moved Ali's body are not the same person, and I'm suspecting Ian of doing the latter with Spencer's help. Then again, maybe Ali told Ian everything and he's also A.

I have the feeling that the ending is going to completely blindside me though, and I'll read back over my reviews and feel quite stupid for not figuring it out earlier ;]

Overall: If you loved Pretty Little Liars and hated how Flawless didn't seem to go anywhere, then you'll LOVE Perfect. The secret of Ali's killer is unveiled, and things start slowly spiralling downward. (less)
