I found this at the library paperback exchange (they put the paperbacks on shelves and you don't have to check them out, you just write down how many you want on the clipboard, and you can bring them back whenever you want, or bring different ones back, or keep it, or whatever--somehow it works) while looking for books I could read without encountering explicit love scenes or swear words. I enjoyed the book very much. The cats' antics made me laugh out loud several times, and I enjoyed Qwilleran...more

I enjoy these books because they are harmless and quick reads - a nice little mystery, 2 cats and a man (who is always interested in the women around him,) and they are squeaky clean. This installment in the series was a little different. Braun took a bit of an environmentalist tone - a rather political stand that she has never done before that I can remember. And she portrayed Qwill in a less generous light in 2 instances in this book - both in restaurants. I think she was trying to show some d...more

I enjoyed the escapism as I have the others in the series, and I liked the change of scene to Potato Mountain and away from Pickaxe, as there's probably not alot of mystery left in Pickaxe now! The wonderful cats were on the ball as usual, and I am looking forward to the next installment.

I like this Cat Who novel the best of the collection so far. Jim Qwilleran goes off to the Potato Mountains to rethink his life plans. He doesn't do much of that as he becomes very interested in the issues of the mountain people, the Taters vs. the Spuds.

A fun read. I'd heard of this series but hadn't read any of the books until now. Having catsat two Siamese and now living with two barn cats, I enjoyed the comic relief and plot twists that Koko and Yum Yum provided. Good brain candy for a sick and stressed grad student.

One of my favorites of the series. Qwill spends summer on Potato Mountain, in huge rented old hotel, where the owner had been killed. Political storyline - old environmentalists against rich condo-builders.

I love these books--the main character is funny and really understands how cats think. I also enjoy these stories because they are mysteries, my favorite genre.

This turned out to be one of my favorite story lines of this series. I liked the different mountain location from the usual rural Moose County. I also liked that it didn't wrap up as neatly as most of the other books in this series.

Mystery Readers
A Jim Qwilleran with his Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum mystery. Qwill needs time off to decide whether he wants to remain in Moose County and the town of Pickax, so he takes a vacation to the Potato Mountains for the summer so he can be alone and be able to decide what he wants to do. Instead of peace and quiet, he finds an area split between those favoring development of the area and those who oppose it, strained relationships between those who consider themselves the social betters of others...more

My original reading notes indicate that I liked this one better than the previous title, The Cat Who Knew A Cardinal. That seems to have been partly due to the place that it didn't take place in Moose County - which was good because the crime rate there seemed pretty high. Being out of town also got Qwill away from Polly for a while, which I also appreciated because I never liked her.

Another good read. I really enjoy the "Cat who.." series - light and easy reads with fun characters. I listened to this one rather than reading the book, but it was just as enjoyable.

This has to be one of the funniest cat series that I have ever read. The interaction between Qwill and his cats is hilarious.

I've enjoyed all of the antics of Koko and Yum Yum in each of the LJB books I've read.
