Full of twists and turns to keep you guessing, "Whispers and Lies" tells the story of solitary, 40-something Terry, a nurse with a small social life and a smaller cottage behind her house.
She rents the cottage to Allison, who promises to enliven Terry's life. But soon questions and questionable folks pop up, and Terry is left wondering if she's getting drawn into a web she can't escape.
A strong plot rolls out over several hundred pages, and then takes a sharp right turn -- an...more

Looks like a quick, but interesting read. I'll let you know...
Talk about surprise endings...never saw it coming...I had some problems reading this because I guess I don't like suspense. This was not the most "mysterious" book, I suppose, but it was mildly suspenseful and made me uncomfortalbe reading it at parts....Overall, I'd recommend it, and I might try another of her books.
It's not a book that will ever become a classic, but it is a good beach book.

This is one of those books that really keeps you guessing until the very end!
It is about a nurse named Terry who lives alone until a young woman named Allison comes to live in her guesthouse. Throughout the story, Terry is trying to determine what it is that she thinks is so strange and mysterious about Allison and her life. It has a great plot twist at the end!

So far, this is vintage Fielding. I'm enjoying the obsession theme as well as Fielding's great dialogue and the description she was so good at several years ago.
I finished it today, and boy, was it unpredictable. Very good writing and lots of surprises beginning midway through the book. This is Fielding at her best.

This is the second book I have read by this author, and again, I was completely surprised by the ending. This wasn't quite a "can't put it down" book, but almost. It is about a nurse who rents a cottage behind her house to a young woman who appears to have some questionable motives in moving there.

Fielding is a writer who can maintain tension and suspense. She is easy to read and her books can be finished in one sitting, on a rainy day or on a plane. This book was full of twists and turns and I had another ending picked from the beginning of the book until almost the end.

Mildly suspenseful story of a woman who gets caught up
in the lives of the mysterious young woman she rents to
and her bizarre friends. Good plot twist at the end, other-
wise, mediocre. I didn't particularly care for it.

Totally unexpected plot twist. I liked how Fielding slowly led up to the end, allowing the reader to pause and say, "wait, that's weird, why would that happen? Is that normal? What's really going on?"

Given to me by a friend who has refined taste in pot-boilers. If you're in the mood for a good trashy novel, you can't get better trash than this...

I enjoyed reading this book until I got to the end. I didn't like who the villian turned out to be and it just ruined the book for me.

Loved this book...starts out kind of slow, but once the plot picks up there are a lot of twists that I never saw coming.

I was expecting a better ending and was tired of reading about the girl's hair over and over and over again :-)

Really easy to read. Did have a surprise ending but was a little too creepy for me.
