A magnificent novel of the forty days after Christ rose from the dead

Waltari’s famous ideological novel The Secret of the Kingdom describes the Biblical events taking place between Easter and Pentecost. Marcus Mezentius Manilianus, a learned and wealthy Roman, is travelling in the Orient and arrives in Jerusalem on the day of the crucifixion of Jesus. This marks the depart

Outstanding read! Waltari was exceptionally accurate with his historical fiction (have also read The Egyptian). This book is already in my top five favorite books of all time. It is period and Biblically accurate. He fleshes out a very dramatic and insightful story with regard to what the apostles and disciples must have been feeling during the time from the resurrection to Pentecost—it really makes you think. I could see every encounter having actually happened. Finally, he truly portrays the p ...more

On toi Waltari aika welho!

Ajatuksia herättävän kaunis satu jo aiemmin olemassaolevasta Jeesus-sadusta.

Sopii hyvin rinnakkain luet ...more

I loved this book, Mika is a master of description and recital. I felt I was there, I could even feel the dust and the hot air while crucifiction of Jesus Christ.

My father was reading another edition of this book when my mother was pregnant.

I couldn't have missed this book, Waltari being one of my favorites authors.
In this novel the author approached a similar theme with the one presented in The Etruscan but with a different historical setting and people.

Waltari was born in Helsinki and lost his father, a Lutheran pastor, at the age of five. As a boy, he witnessed the Finnish Civil War in Helsinki. Later he enrolled in the University of Helsinki as a theology student, according to his mother's wishes, but soon abandoned theology in favour of philosoph
