I started reading Finding Angela Shelton yesterday afternoon and found I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. The story continued to haunt me last night and at odd moments throughout the day.

Angela Shelton wanted to find a new project during the Writer's Strike of 2001. She pitched an idea to HBO to make a documentary where she interviews women across the country that share her name. With a green light on the show and a rented RV, Angela and her crew travel the country...more

This is a must-read must-praise must-shout-about book! Angela's incredible road trip across America, meeting other Angela Sheltons while finding herself, making a film and relying on high hopes to finance the venture, is an exuberant yet emotional voyage of discovery. She is an amazing person who is truly on a mission guided by destiny. Godspeed to her and all who follow her voice in the urgent cause of stopping abuse!

Years after seeing the documentary Searching For Angela Shelton, I now have a much better understanding of the filmmaker's life before, during, and since she made the movie. The book is a nonlinear memoir that includes scenes of her father sexually and physically abusing her & her siblings. It covers her experience interviewing other women named Angela Shelton and her realization that most of them had been beaten, raped, or molested. The book describes her healing journey to move on from the...more

I marked this with 5 stars as soon as my advance copy arrived at my doorstep because I was sure that it was going to be amazing.

Now that tax season is over I started and finished it today. Oye Vey!!

It was more than I expected. I laughed, cried, sobbed, read quotes aloud to my fiancee and mother. It was even better than I had hoped. I feel that the movie started me on a journey that I didn't even realize that I needed to finish. This book just made my journey feel more absolved and complete.

Overall, I'd say that I liked it, but I don't feel a need to ever read it again. I was drawn to the book because of my interests in psychology and sexual health, but the book was not very enlightening in those aspects. I think that it would be much more appealing to someone who is just beginning to face past trauma and wants to read an inspirational story about the many paths one can take towards recovery.

Read this in one night! A truly inspiring book!

I really liked this book, and the movie and book have become a movement. Angela Shelton found out that 70% of the other Angela Sheltons around the country had been abused in some way. I've told people about that number and they don't believe it. I do. Now she is working to help people. The book is really interesting, I read it one weekend, which I hardly ever have time to do anymore. Very inspiring. And she puts herself and her past right in the middle of it all. I admire her courage!

If you haven't read this book or seen her documentary "Searching for Angela Shelton" then you should. This is a powerful story of a woman who traveled around America interviewing all the women with the name Angela Shelton. Turns out 70% of them had been raped, molested or beaten including the author. Although this is a heavy topic, she approaches it with humor and grace, taking her reader and her viewer through her own healing process in a very personal way. I highly recommend this book!

I was kind of disappointed by it. The original idea was cool and unusual, and it turns into a story of these poor abused women. I feel like there wasn't enough on what puts these women in abusive situations, and nothing on how the abusers became the way they are. The ending was too pat; the best parts were her recollections of her horrible childhood. The worst were her silly dream journal entries, and her annoying name dropping.

I learned it's okay and healing to tell the truth.
I learned I am not crazy.
I learned I am not alone.
I learned that abuse is just something that happened to me--it does not have to define me.
I learned I have a voice.
I learned there are many people out there who need to find their voice, too.
I learned that speaking the truth helps others to speak their truth.

READ THIS BOOK!

When I first started this book I hadn't the slightest idea what I got myself into.

Finding Angela Shelton is a huge eye opener to the type of "monsters" that are out there. Scarier is having that "MONSTER" be your parents friend and neighbor.

The courage she had to do this unbelievable. She is a true survivor and hero.

This is a book for everyone.

Wow, is all I can say about this book. It is a real tear-jerker and quite the dose of reality when it comes to abuse.
