Huh. I give "Into the Flame" by Christina Dodd 3 stars because it's the end of her 4 book series about the Wilder/Varinski family. But I was really disappointed. I'm always willing to suspend reality, but to me this book just felt...cheesy.

Firebird is the only daughter born to the fierce Wilder family. They've always considered her their miracle, even when she returned home broken in spirit and pregnant, they stood by their daughter/sister. At the end of the last book, we found out that Firebird...more

Wow, I was pretty disappointed with this book. The "romance" between Firebird and Doug was not fleshed out at all. I am not a fan of reunion romances where we miss the initial meeting and falling in love. The book didn't give us very much information about the time they dated, all I really knew was that they dated for a bit then she left him while she was pregnant. Christina Dodd always has inconsistencies in her stories but if I am enjoying the writing, I can overlook them enough to still like...more

Finally the last book in Christina Dodd’s Darkness Chosen series, Into the Flame lives up to its title! We have followed the prophecy and the growing evil of the Varinski’s and the growing illness of Konstantine hoping that the curse will be broken in time. It seems to have come down to the last son – but that means Firebird isn’t who she or her family believed her to be. What does this mean for the curse, how will they find the last piece of the icon?

It is a nightmare that Firebird can not wake...more

This was the last book of a 4 book series. I really enjoyed all four books and this book gave a nice finishing touch to the series. Of course I always seem to want more -- even when a series finishes.

The series takes a different approach to were-shifters. Won't go into it too much since it would spoil reading the books for yourself, but I will say that I enjoyed the author's take on animal shifters. It was a refreshing change and I enjoyed the suspense, action, and adult romance that filled eve...more

This is the last book in the series. On one hand I was disappointed by this story…the actual story between the two individuals didn’t draw me in, in a believable manner, or enticing manner I guess. On the flip side, the side of the series being brought to a closure…I loved it. there was action and drama and things really worked out well.

I do have one complaint for the series as a whole that is totally a personal choice…and I’m warning you right here, don’t read further as one might consider this...more

While I enjoyed reading this book, it definitely was not, in my opinion, as good as the other three books in the series. I didn't feel like Doug and Firebird's connection was as strong as what was between the other Wilder siblings and thier loves. Even his proposal in the end seemed... blah to me. I felt like Dodd was just kind of trying to get in a HEA and ended up rushing through all the good parts! So, slightly let down on this one but still worth reading to end the series on a good note!

I'll go with 3.5 Stars

I managed to get my hands on this one from the new shelf at the library, not realizing it was the 4th and last book in a series. Crappers. I hate reading series out of order.

I would say though, at least from the perspective of the 4th book, it doesn't really seem like I missed much not reading them. I mean, the series centers around 4 siblings and their mates, so of course their (the three oldest) back-stories are missing, but this book was stand-alone in that it really foc...more

What a perfect ender! For some reason I won't explain here, I skipped Adrik's story and jumped right into this one. The story was overwhelming; Firebird and Doug's story took a backseat because a lot of things happened, and despite the lack of love scenes between the two, I didn't mind. It was that awesome.

Ms Dodd's easy writing pulled me in once again and if I weren't busy at work, I could've finished this in one day. While reading the story, I felt familiar with the characters, and I liked the...more

I am sure I will be in the minority but I was really disappointed in this book and I was really unhappy since it is the end of a series.
To begin with there were just so many pot holes in the story but that aside the I think that CD forgot she had two main characters to develop.
While her writing is always good it just had to many multiple plots IMO she should have written this book as she did the others and then had a follow up book for the "war" or fight scene. I really wanted to get Firebird &...more

This is the final installment of a 4-book paranormal romance series set in contemporary America. It was entertaining and well written, so if you love PNR, you might give this series a chance. Start at the beginning, though. I happened to end up with a copy of this book out of order, so I read it and it was good enough, but I probably would have felt more engaged in the story if I'd read them in order.

Premise: shapeshifters are all descended from an evil man who sold his soul and the souls of hi...more

Fantastic book series. This one easily scores 4 1/2 stars. As a whole I'd rate the series as a 5. The plot wasn't mind blowing but the books were page turners. Nothing stood out as fantastic on its own, yet they were fantastic as a whole. I really liked the whole family aspect. I think the author caught the difference in cultures very well. The relationships didn't drag out or get bogged down in drama. The religion aspect was well handled without stepping on toes. In short, it was all very well...more

I was going to give this book three stars but I loved how it wrapped up the series. I wish they would make this into a mini series for televison or four part major motion picture. I can totally see it in my head. As far as this, the #4 and final in the series goes, it is the weakest. You don't feel the connection between Doug and Firebird like you do between the other brothers and their women and you don't feel that sympathetic towards Doug, who definitely deserves it. Nevertheless, it is an enj...more

I really liked all the books before. But i felt like she did this one half hearted. It just wasn't like the other ones. I feel like there was missing pieces. I didnt feel the love or the romance. And at the very end when Firebird & Dough were talking , i feel like they didnt want to be together they sorta just had to. I kinda wish she never made the last book. I really enjoyed the other 3 ,i think this just seems like a really bad ending to it. I also really didnt get why they lost their pow...more

This was my favorite one of the series. the final chapter in the series. I really like Doug and Firebird. I cheered for them all the way. I will miss these boys and their loves. This is a perfect wrap up of all the stories, a great ending.

My Thoughts:
This is the last book in the Darkness Chosen series and now the Varinski is getting closer and now there’s one icon missing. In this book we met Douglas, the missing son from the Wilders and also discovered that he had a relationship with Firebird. Konstantine is barely alive and the time is almost done.

This book is very different from the other ones because everyone always though that Firebird was Konstantine daughter and to discover that her hole life people had lied to her was ver...more

While searching my stacks of books, I stumbled across this book, which is the fourth and final book in a series that I started reading a few years ago. and the only book I hadn't read. So I figured why not just get to it and read it. I wondered if it would be slow going since I may have forgotten a lot about the series story arc, but a lot of it came back to me as I read the story and the author reviewed some details from the first three books within this storyline, so it worked out fine. Into t...more

Into the Flame is the fourth and final book in Christina Dodd’s Darkness Chosen series. This is the story of Firebird Wilder and the conclusion to the war between the Varinskis and the Wilders. There are four Wilder children, three sons and one daughter, Firebird. The sons’ stories are the first three books and Firebird’s is the fourth. Firebird met Doug Black when she was in college. He was employed as a campus security man. He develops a relationship with Firebird and they fall in love with ea...more

Terrific ending to a terrific series!

I couldn’t have asked for better! Upon some revelations (that were brought forward in the third book and revisited at the beginning of this novel), Firebird is determined to find Doug and bring him home. The father of her child, he actually really is the fourth Wilder son, who had been kidnapped at birth and left in the desert to die. She’s determined to explain who he is, what he is, and to bring him home to her son and her family. She first thought he was a...more

It was a nice end to the series. I must admit that the plot in this one was better developed than in the previous ones. We have a much interesting enemy to confront and the action is so much better. But when it came to romance, not so good. There was actually very little of it, although you may not even realize it because the hero and the heroine knew each other from before, so you almost don't even feel it.

I liked this series. In an overall, it was a solid 4 stars. A nice read if you don't know...more

Hmmmmmmmm not sure about this series. The last book was better then the first 3 in my opinion. It was the only one that the women weren't "forced" (should say HEAVILY pushed) into having sex.

I mean, when a woman says NO, it's not a signal to keep dominating her, pushing her til she gives into the animal dominance/passion.

I really liked the storyline. Different then others I've read, just didn't think the execution was all that great.......

This book wrapped up the series nicely tho. Won't be keep...more

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. It isn't completely original. The family is under a curse. 4 religious icons are required before the curse can be broken. (I'm paraphrasing.) This is book 4 and it didn't really matter that I hadn't read the other 3. Firebird Wilder learns that she isn't a true Wilder, she was adopted. As it turns out, and this is not as much a coincidence as it will sound, the father of her child was switched with her at birth. Doug Black only knew h...more

I loved this book, all the previous characters are in this one and a great twist comes in when you hear the love story of the daughter in the family. This book ends this series and a break off series includes the child grown up in it. This is the favorite book of this series for me and I loved the love story. They also have a lot of action and a big fight. What more could you ask for!

Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. As she was growing up, she read everything, but discovered, because she likes humor, that she liked romance best. In romance, the relationship between one man and one woman holds center stage, and that’s always good for a laugh.

A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on m...more
