Huh. I give "Into the Flame" by Christina Dodd 3 stars because it's the end of her 4 book series about the Wilder/Varinski family. But I was really disappointed. I'm always willing to suspend reality, but to me this book just felt...cheesy.
Firebird is the only daughter born to the fierce Wilder family. They've always considered her their miracle, even when she returned home broken in spirit and pregnant, they stood by their daughter/sister. At the end of the last book,...more

Wow, I was pretty disappointed with this book. The "romance" between Firebird and Doug was not fleshed out at all. I am not a fan of reunion romances where we miss the initial meeting and falling in love. The book didn't give us very much information about the time they dated, all I really knew was that they dated for a bit then she left him while she was pregnant. Christina Dodd always has inconsistencies in her stories but if I am enjoying the writing, I can overlook them enough to s...more

Finally the last book in Christina Dodd’s Darkness Chosen series, Into the Flame lives up to its title! We have followed the prophecy and the growing evil of the Varinski’s and the growing illness of Konstantine hoping that the curse will be broken in time. It seems to have come down to the last son – but that means Firebird isn’t who she or her family believed her to be. What does this mean for the curse, how will they find the last piece of the icon?

In this last book of the Darkness Chosen series we meet Doug Black, the Wilder brother who s been missing for years. With no idea of where he s from, he s become an angry young cop with the ability to transform into a cougar. In search of others like him, he finds cousins from the Old Country and arranges to use them to rescue Firebird from her family not knowing her real situation.[return][return]This is also the story of single mother Firebird Wilder as she finds out the truth of her birth ...more

While I enjoyed reading this book, it definitely was not, in my opinion, as good as the other three books in the series. I didn't feel like Doug and Firebird's connection was as strong as what was between the other Wilder siblings and thier loves. Even his proposal in the end seemed... blah to me. I felt like Dodd was just kind of trying to get in a HEA and ended up rushing through all the good parts! So, slightly let down on this one but still worth reading to end the series on a good note!

I am sure I will be in the minority but I was really disappointed in this book and I was really unhappy since it is the end of a series.
To begin with there were just so many pot holes in the story but that aside the I think that CD forgot she had two main characters to develop.
While her writing is always good it just had to many multiple plots IMO she should have written this book as she did the others and then had a follow up book for the "war" or fight scene. I really wan...more

On the night Firebird Wilder learns she isn't a true Wilder (at least in blood), something stalks her family's ranch. The scent investigation by her brothers doesn't exclude a Varinski, but deep down Firebird knows who paid her family a visit.
State patrolman Douglas Wilder is determined to find his birth family who's abandoned him in the desert at his birth, leaving him to die. The family who's passed onto him the terrible gift of being able to turn into a cougar at will.

Fantastic book series. This one easily scores 4 1/2 stars. As a whole I'd rate the series as a 5. The plot wasn't mind blowing but the books were page turners. Nothing stood out as fantastic on its own, yet they were fantastic as a whole. I really liked the whole family aspect. I think the author caught the difference in cultures very well. The relationships didn't drag out or get bogged down in drama. The religion aspect was well handled without stepping on toes. In short, it was all very well ...more

This is the last book in the series. On one hand I was disappointed by this story…the actual story between the two individuals didn’t draw me in, in a believable manner, or enticing manner I guess. On the flip side, the side of the series being brought to a closure…I loved it. there was action and drama and things really worked out well.
I do have one complaint for the series as a whole that is totally a personal choice…and I’m warning you right here, don’t read further a...more

Terrific ending to a terrific series!
I couldn’t have asked for better! Upon some revelations (that were brought forward in the third book and revisited at the beginning of this novel), Firebird is determined to find Doug and bring him home. The father of her child, he actually really is the fourth Wilder son, who had been kidnapped at birth and left in the desert to die. She’s determined to explain who he is, what he is, and to bring him home to her son and her family. She first ...more

Hm, if I had to pick a word to describe this one, it would be...ehhh. I didn't even finish it, and for me that is unheard of. I perhaps shouldn't have started with the fourth in a series, but I can definitely say that I will not be going back to get the first three. This one was for me, simply put, boring. The characters did not engage me at all, and neither did the plot. Which is a shame, since I thought it had such potential.

The finale to the Darkness chosen series was terrific!!
And it left an opening for those that are interested in the family of werebeings/gypsies to continue the series!!!
I highly recommend the whole series
Touch of darkness
Scent of darkness
Into the shadow
Into the flame...
Scent of darkness is the slowest read of the four!!

The denouement. He's a policeman! And a cougar! She is an ass-kicking chick from a tough family....(Sex. Shape-shifting. Ukrainian mobsters. Guns and bombs and supernatural stuff.)
These books are what summer is made for. Don't scoff until you've tried 'em. (But Book 3 is the hottest).

I finally finished the Darkness Chosen series. I wasn't fabulously impressed all in all. I liked the way the entire family's saga was finished in the last few chapters, but this particular book felt flat. The 'romance' between Firebird and Doug was forced and their relationship was stilted. Ms. Dodd could've done much better.

This is the last book for the 4 part series. A family that is cursed by can shapeshift into prey animals. Not a new concept, but still an interesting book. Glad I only read the last one and know how the series concludes. (Good guys win!)

I thought it was OK. I liked the other books in this series. I felt they didn't spend enough time on the romance. There was too much focus on the overall story arc.

This is a continuation of the Darkness Chose series about the Wilder family. It is the story of Firebird and Douglas. Firebird mets and falls in love with Douglas. She runs when she finds out that he can shiftshape into a cougar and believes that he is one of the Varinskis who have vowed to kill every member of her family.
