Millions of shoppers save money buying groceries in bulk trays of boneless chicken breasts, pairs of flank steaks, and flats of ripe tomatoes. But savings can quickly become losses if those bulk quantities spoil in the refrigerator or lie forgotten unlabeled and unrecognizable under layers of ice crystals in the back of the freezer.

Fix, Freeze, Feast is just about the most awesome "bulk buy, prep, and freeze" type cookbook out there. We (well, A.) looked at several cookbooks in this category before ultimately settling on this one. Whereas most of the others use a great many processed ingredients (think "Cheez-Whiz"), this one uses fresh ingredients more/less exclusively. It has a great introductory section that talks about warehouse shopping (think: "CostCo") and how to buy bulk quantities ...more

This book is the best freezer cooking manual I have found, and I've used a LOT of them. With two kids under age 2, dinner needs to be fast, nutritious, and easy. This book delivers! There is very little reliance on convenience foods, using almost exclusively fresh ingredients. I've tried at least half of the recipes in this book since I started using it a few months ago, and have not found one recipe my family doesn't like.

For my family, the portion sizes are quite a bit too larg...more

I really like the idea behind this book. Definitely something I'd like to adopt in my own life. However, again, NOT ONE SINGLE PHOTOGRAPH. I don't understand. It does not make the recipes presented here preferable to one where I could see a photograph, then double/triple/quadruple in order to freeze in portions and use the same way as the recipes in this book.

I appreciate the concept, that the recipes are made in bulk, written for bulk buying, tested (I assume) for freeze+reheat prep...more

I first borrowed this book from a friend because my church youth group needed to make a bunch of frozen meals for a project, then I bought my own. The idea of cooking once for several meals always interested me, but I never have made the time to make it happen. This book makes the process so easy and all 4 of the recipes I have tried so far have been big hits with the added bonus of having extra meals to freeze. The authors take the guess factor out of the freezing process, which was great. ...more

Man, I really like the idea of this book, but I have yet to be able to fit it into my life. The idea is that you make large batches of things and freeze them. Then when you come home all "I'M TOO STARVING TO COOK," you can just pop a previously home-cooked meal in the microwave rather than running out to Taco Bell like a loser. The authors say that you don't have to own a chest freezer to make this work, and I do believe them. But my regular attached-to-the-fridge freezer is a bit ...more

I found this book one of the best freeze + fix later books out there. Although many reviews mention that the amount of food for each batch can be overwhelming, you can easily adapt these recipes to not use 6 pounds of meat for one recipe, but half it and use the rest of the meat in another dish. There are no photos but that didn't bother me so much for this book. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but will be making them over the coming weeks to freeze!

I think this book will come in handy... I like the idea of fixing meals ahead of time and pulling them out later on busy nights. I was surprised by the amount of recipes in it that had alcohol in them (for flavoring, etc) though, and though there looks like lots of good recipes, I think I'd look around for a different book before buying this one for that reason.

Wonderfully delicious sounding meals.
Great ideas.
I love the ones that give you different options based off of one frozen meal.
The reason this didn't get a 5 star review?
There is not a single picture throughout the book.
I still really enjoyed the book, but some pics would have made it exceptional.

I haven't bought a cookbook in a while and I'm thinking it might be time. Yummy recipes that are easy to prepare...score! Most recipes make several batches, which for a couple seems a bit overboard. I'm hoping I can cut down on the recipes or maybe share. I do love the idea of a cooking party!

Husband deployed. I hate fixing meals, usually not hungry when the kids are so I thought maybe I could fix things ahead of time. The recipes in this book are edible. My kids are super picky and there are several recipes in this book they are more than willing to try.

A very interesting book. I will definitely try some of the recipes. But the authors must have a lot more money than me because they use a lot more meat than I would for an entree. But I'm excited to have recipes that are meant for the freezer.

This was a surprisingly good cookbook. The recipes were really good. I learned how to adjust my own recipes to freeze and eat later. I was also surprised at how yummy the food from the freezer tasted. A definite must for the busy mom.

II have been dabbling with freezer meals and must say it is worth an afternoon of cooking to have 2 weeks of golden emergency meals waiting in the freezer. So I had to get this to try.

I'm giving this a temporary four stars. I've made several meals and they are in my freezer. If they taste as good as they sound, this cookbook gets another star from me.

Good concepts. I feel stupid that I've never thought of preparing and organizing food this way before. Maybe I will have to focus on cooking only one day a week!

I'm afraid this could be a cookbook that I read but don't use very often. I have not tried any of these recipes in the past two months since I received the book. The one that looks the best is the one that was available as a free Amazon preview (cherry chicken?). As with many cookbooks, several recipes call for ingredients that I don't have/would be expensive to use (dried cherries) or that I would purchase for the recipe but then remains would go to waste.

There are good ideas in here;...more

Reserving that fifth star for after I actually try a recipe or two. =O) Otherwise, looks fantastic!

While I haven't actually cooked the recipes up for dinner yet, I have several in the freezer ready to go. I like the premise for this style of food prep, especially in my crazy household. Assuming they turn out well I would actually consider purchasing this book for continued use.

Very excited about some of the recipes in this book, but disappointed in that there are no pictures. So far all the recipes look easy enough to divide ingredients for making less which is good because there is nothing worse than being stuck with alot of something you won't eat.

I'll keep you posted...

So far so good. The instructions are well written and clear which makes for easy preparations. I'm happy with the results so far so I would definitely recommend this book, eve...more

Great book on how to shop at big warehouse clubs and recipes how to use all that food. Things that will come in handy when I need to fill the freezer in preparation for the babies, but I wish it had pictures. I don't know why they even publish all these cookbooks with no pictures!

I could not get enough time with this book and could never renew it as someone always had a hold on it so I just bought it. Have only tried one recipe but it was a winner for all. Poised to make another one in the next couple days.

Bleh. My kids wouldn't eat most of these recipes, and many seem to start with Costco type convenience foods. I'm trying to get AWAY from convenience foods, and I don't have a Costco.
