I learned that Don Felder wrote "Hotel California" and that it appears as though Don Henley & Glenn Frey got too big for their britches.

As authors go, Don Felder makes a great guitarist -- but his story's fascinating, even if the writing doesn't always do it justice. Not quite the "tell-all" Eagles book that many people are making it out to be, but instead the story of a poor kid from Gainesville made good -- and the sad transformation from rock & roll as a driving emotional force to just a source of revenue. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was good and gossipy, but the most surprising thing I learned was what a wuss Felder was in dealing with Henley and Frey over the years. You know how a dog will roll over and bare its belly in submission? Felder was pretty much like that, even though he owned an equal share of the band.

I recall when this band played heavy rock until they smoothed down for commercial success and this book tells about the Frey/Henley dominance in the band with telling effect - basically, it was a two-tier hierarchy.

The band continues (goodness knows how) without the mulit-taltented author of the book.
