When He Was Bad (Magnus Pack #3.5)
Two of paranormal romance's bestselling authors combine their extraordinary talents and set the pages on fire with an after-dark anthology featuring Alpha males so hot, so wild, and so bad, they may just be the best you've ever had...

I'm not going to write a plot summary of any of the stories because the book description is pretty accurate. Plus, these are short stories and there isn't much more I could add without revealing the whole tale.

The Cynthia Eden story was okay, I liked her Midnight series better.
I have been hanging out to read the almost prequel story of Van Holtz and his mate.
Based in eighties, but at no stage did I feel like I was immersed in the time, this story was hilarious. The characters, like all of Shelly's books are totally original and I just lap them up.
Even though it was a short, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything or that it was rushed. It was just a fantastic, s ...more

Miss Congeniality (Magnus Pack #3.5) by Shelly Laurenston
Miss Congeniality was ridiculously hilarious. It was amazingly hilarious. Seriously, I've re-read this at least three times in the last week. This one is real laugh out loud (and make your husband stop what he's doing to listen) funny!
"I'm sorry," she said after several moments....more
Unfortunately, the Cynthia Eden story deserves nothing more than to be set on ...more
This book includes two stories. A very funny story written by Laurenston back in the 80s and a new one by Eden. If you don't or can't remember the 80s, Laurenston's story might not be as funny, but I did enjoy it. It is, however, more romance than erotica.

I liked it a lot better than the rest of the Magus Pack serious. Yeesh, those other heroines were annoying.
The heroine here was suppose to be a bitch too ... but she came across more "intensely academic" and insecure, which allowed me to understand why she was socially inappropriate most of the time.
I want to read Jackie and Paul's story (supporting characters in this book) - now that seems like an entertaining short story. What we know is that she fin ...more
These are a few quotes I liked, there are many many great lines but there are the ones I remembered to hightlight!
She's odd because she's brilliant." He motioned to the exit where the female had disappeared." At this moment, she's dicusiing things you and I could never even comprehend."
"I absolutely could create a lightsaber
"You could not create a lightsaber."
"I could too. It's all a science."

Miss Congeniality by Shelly Laurenston~ 5 Stars!
I loved this story! Shelly Laurenston makes shifter lovin sexy and fun. We have a classic tale of opposites attract here.
Professor Irene Conridge PhD is well, Sheldon, from "The Big Bang Theory". A child prodigy, brutally honest, unemotional, scientific to a fault, mean as hell and socially retarded. It's hard to imagine Sheldon as a female, but it can be done :) Enter Niles Van Holtz, an arrogant, womanizing, sexy, soon ...more

Miss Congeniality stars Irene Conridge and Niles Van Holtz who were introduced in her screamingly funny Go Fetch. No, you don't HAVE to have read it before Miss Congeniality - but if you've read Go Fetch you will definitely WANT to. It's the story of Irene [no people skills and frighteningly intellectual:], and the Alpha shifter who is everything she's not [physical, wealthy, and charming:]. And ...more
I've read that short story twice, you'd think I'd eventually get to Cynthia Eden's story, right?
Even though this is Magnus Pack 4, it really takes place in the past. We met Irene Conridge and Niles Van Holtz in Go Fetch!, where they were already married, mated and had kids. But this is how it all started.
She was a bit like Miki in a way, except even more awkward around people, and I liked that Niles had been circling her for years, never making a move.
DNF Wicked Ways
I LOVED getting the whole story behind Irene and Niles. They were great together! Irene is your typical socially awkward brilliant child prodigy. She is far to cerebral and in her own head to have developed any social skills. She finally met her match in Niles, he cannot compete with her intelligence, but he is the ying to her yang and breaks through her icy exterior and proves there is more to life than work. I especially enjoyed the epilogue which f ...more
I knew this novella would be awesome and it totally was!
Irene Conridge was a hoot. Her mind is brilliant. She's always concocting things not many people would ever even think of. She is basically the female version of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. She is a pure genius. To the point where she has no idea about emotions and the social norm. She was almost like robotic but It was so part of her charm and seeing how Niles Van Holtz changed her in so many and ...more
Miss Congeniality is the fourth and final book in the Magnus Pack series and is the reason I bought this book. However, that said, it has nothing to do with Magnus Pack, but in actual fact deals with Irene Conridge and Niles van Holtz first met in Mika's story in Go Fetch. Given that we already know about Mika and how Professor Conridge terrifies her, we can e ...more
"Miss Congeniality" (Magnus Pack, 3.5)
Shelly Laurenston's "Miss Congeniality" is a look back into the past where we discover how Professor Irene Conridge, PhD, meets Niles Van Holtz, womanizing werewolf. This is just too cute! Niles is just too intrigued with the doc. Her haughty, cold ways. The constant efforts to freeze him out. And he wants her. And he gets her. In a way. When he rescues her ...more
I find that with teacher being the main character, there're lots of thing to learn. Now, with Irene...considered yourself lucky, for she has tons of twisted way to teach.
1) How to tell people you are extremely good in games?

I started this book in the usual Shelly Laurenston fashion - absolutely loving it, but by the end it fell a little bit flat for me.
It had Shelly's fabulous sarcastic humour that I have grown accustomed to, but the ending wasn't detailed enough for me. Miraculously Irene had the ability to blown up part of a defence base whilst being guarded...but you get no detail on how it was done.
Also, personal pet peeve - Irene had no interest in planning he ...more
Shelly Laurenston's story had me laughing out loud. Which made my husband look at me strangely. lol This was a quick sexy and humorous story. Niles and Irene were so different from each other that they were perfect for each other. I was bummed when the story ended.

Miss Congeniality - Shelley Laurenston - 7/25 - 4
This short opens with Irene Coleridge & Niles Van Holtz courtship front and center. Niles had already mentioned their 'cute' meet and while the backstory was more in depth than Niles' throwaway line I felt the same about the couple. I still liked him and didn't warm toward her though I did enjoy the quirkiness of both characters and they made me laugh a few times.

"No. But I have incredible luck with dice and I am ruthless. You will lose, gentlemen. I will destroy your lands, take your women, ravish your men, and make your children my slave labor. I will own every castle, house, and farm that is within my reach. I won't be satisfied until I own all of it and you. I will destroy you all, gentlemen, and, to be quite blunt, I don't think you can handle it."
Van covered his mouth to keep from laughing out loud and he didn't dare look at his sister. Verner stepped back, motioning to the table. "Now I must insist."
"As you wish." Irene sighed and stood. She glanced at Van and gave him a quick wink before turning back to his uncle. "I do hope you're a 'sobber,' Mr. Van Holtz. Nothing I love more than the lamenting of the men I annihilate."
"I can't believe you made him cry."
"I did not. He just teared up a little."
"Yeah. I think it was when you told him, 'I now control your ports and own your manhood.'"
"His wife laughed.”
"Taking you to your bed."
And Van, if he were a crying man, would be sobbing. Until uptight Irene Conridge added, "The wall. Use the Wall.”
