Quite an intriguing story which follows the lives of Laurie and Claire from their shared childhood, growing up in a household where both sets of parents have established a music centre, all the way to middle age. There are many twists and turns which I followed avidly and yet somehow I felt it just dwindled off at the end. I loved it as I was reading it but can't quite put into words my ambivalence over it now.
Kathleen Rowntree was born in Northumberland, brought up in Lincolnshire, studied music and English at Hull University and is now living with her husband in Oxfordshire. She taught for some years before she began to write. When asked what her novels are about she usually replies with one word: 'relationships'.
