The Magic School Bus is a series of picture books (and now short chapter books) that have been around for at least a decade, encouraging young children to explore more about scientific topics. In this particular picture book, their teacher, Ms. Frizzle, decides to teach the topic of dinosaurs. Ms. Frizzle has a magic school bus that transports her classroom of children into different settings and time periods to learn. It really is such a unique way to encourage and enlighten children about scie...more
This was a very educational book with some imagination all about dinosaurs. The children hopped aboard their time machine school bus after trying to help some paleontologists and went back to the different periods of the dinosaur era. They saw many types of dinosaurs and experienced different periods.

The Magic School Bus in the Time of the Dinosaurs is about Ms. Frizzle and her class. They go on a dinosaur dig, but it gets changed into a time travel trip back to the time of dinosaurs. The students learn much more about them by seeing the dinosaurs in action.
The book is accurate and authentic because it covers different ages and different dinosaurs and how scientists think that they lived. The information is presented in an organized way. The book starts out at the beginning of the school day...more

These first Magic School Bus books are my favorite. They’re longer, the stories are more extensive, and they're packed full of information. I like the sidebars with interesting facts disguised as homework. The illustrations are also more detailed, and the faces have more character.
My kids love the Magic School Bus series. They were Legomeister’s favorites a few years ago, he still checks them out occasionally; and now Little Miss is starting to request them. They enjoy the stories and think the...more

3.5 - Fans of the Magic School Bus will like this book and this edition is an added bonus for dinosaurs lovers. The book is very, very busy. There are tons of add-ons on each page. Besides the main storyline we have some conversation between teacher and students, we have some "schoolwork" with added facts, Q&A's, etc., you have a number of books with titles that can be read aloud, names of dinos, etc.

Recommends it for:
parents reading with their children
Yet another Magic School Bus title to add to our inventory... this one is about dinosaurs and it was a very well-written tale about the age of the dinosaurs, with lots of facts about where and when they lived, how they didn't interact with humans, which ones were more prevalent at which time and how they likely died out.
I also learned that there were ancient reptiles that I grew up calling dinosaurs (like Pteranodons) that aren't truly dinosaurs. Finally I learned that the dinosaur that I grew...more

The Magic School Bus science series always seize to amaze me. They are always illustrated wonderfully and explain science in fun and creative ways through eventful field trips. In this selection, In the Time of the Dinosaurs, Ms. Frizzle takes her students back in time as they discover actual dinosaur bones through the past. This would be a great book to read when students are learning about dinosaurs and/or fossils. I would read this Magic School Bus book to children from grade 2nd-5th.
This book is part of the series The Magic School Bus. In this book the teacher and her students go to the time of the dinosaurs. They find many bones and see real dinosaurs. they travel through many different time periods.
I would use this book during a lesson on dinosaurs. After reading the book I would have the students list as many dinodaurs as they could and any facts about those diosaurs. I think it would be a good and interesting start to a lessson.

This was THE Magic School Bus book my son wanted to read.
I found it a little gory. One dinosaur bloodily attacks another. Oh, and then there's the picture of the comet hurdling towards earth about to wipe them all out.
It was interesting to see the teeny tiny itty bitty amount of time humans have been around compared to how long dinosaurs existed. It made me feel really miniscule.

I need to get some more of these for Antonio - I think this is a great concept! I'm not talking about the Magic School Bus, although I think that's cool, too. Rather, the detail in the books and the amount of reading available. One can simply read the story, with or without all the dialogue balloons (comic book-style!). But there are signs and notes contained within the illustrations as well that are available to the beginning reader. PLUS there are sidebars with even more information that will...more
Yes, I checked both fiction and nonfiction. It's The Magic School Bus. And the Frizz.
Picked it up in the recent acquistions room of the library. Excited because it came out after my collection was bought. Read it, but not nearly as good as I remembered the series being. Plus, I was confused by what a dinosaur was (or rather by all the things that were not dinosaurs) by the end.

When I was younger I used to watch and enjoy the Magic School Bus, this book possesses all the fun I remember. In this particular adventure, the children visit a dinosaur dig, and then travel back in time to see the dinosaurs. They don't just go into one time, but travel through time to see what happens to the same spot on earth over millions of years. This is time travel on a epic scale, though the book is short and sweet. It is perfect for the youngest school kids to explore with their parents...more
This story is very dull, but worse it is very long with lots of confusing details hidden in the pictures and sidebars. Perhaps if I were not the parent of a toddler obsessed with all things dinosaur, this book would not garner so much ire, but after repeated out-loud readings, this book makes me want to scream, but I have lost my voice from the really long text.

The book would have received higher stars BUT I don't believe the earth is MILLIONS of years old & I don't believe a big asteroid came to earth & annihilated the dinosaurs so that is why this is getting 3 stars. Had they kept those "facts" out of the story then I would have given it a 4 for being interesting & for not throwing their "facts" down my throat.
oh how many times we've read this book.....
even elizabeth can name all the characters by sight!
very long for a 3 year old to sit through, but she does it
this was our introduction to the series and we consistently get
MSB books from the school library - william loves them
i think it's the element of fact & learning.... hard to fault!

I enjoyed that only was it educational, but also the comments the kids made made the book funny and entertaining.
This is a good book to integrate science and literature. It tells you all about dinosaurs!
I would have given this book five stars if it had not so much stuff about evolution.
