Well, I am finally to where I first started reading this series. This is the book I randomly picked up to listen to on a long drive. I thought it was a stand-alone book and found myself making excuses to drive just so I could listen to it. I found it to be very funny, and I could relate to the teenage parent issues, but also an intense romantic thread was developing. As i got to the last CD, I realized there was no way the story could end so quickly and I did some research and found there wer...more
I really liked the first two books in this series, but this one turned me off. It could just be that the gimmick is wearing thin. Kate's a mom...and she hunts demons. And it's a secret. I got it. Kate tells us over and over and over again that hunting demons is a breeze compared with raising a teenager and a toddler...and I got that too. I don't need to be reading about it twice a page. I liked Kate's Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer spunk in the first two books, but in this one she seemed more l...more

My least favorite of the series so far, this one just lacked. Still a quick read and worth it if you like the first two, but not up to par. The snarky (yes, sometimes cheesy) wit was missing, whole characters are being ignored (Does Kate even remember what Stuart looks like? Timmy, where are you? Father Ben, we hardly know ye!) or just brought in for a specific purposeful cameo appearance (Hi, Cutter! Bye, Cutter!). Not much in the way of discernible character development, either, though i...more

I really liked this book. For one thing, the whole premise is so nutty. Kate is a devout Catholic, was raised in the Vatican itself, and was trained and hired by the Vatican to be a professional demon hunter. She retired when she married and had her first child. In this book, she's been widowed and remarried, has a second child, and lives the normal life of a surburban mother of a 2-year old and a moody, middle school aged daughter. Until, that is, she's hauled back into demon hunting when a...more
This series just gets better and better. The author has created an impressive cast of characters and has added more depth/seriousness to the overall storyline.
I started reading this and found it didn't hold my interest. Rather than completely give up, as I really enjoyed the previous 2 books in this series, I got the cds from the library.
I felt there was way too much rehashing of the story to date at the beginning of the book. This went on for a good long while and I found it repetitious, boring and unnecessary. After that, the story picked up quite a bit till I got to the part of the annoying, whiny teenager. I know teenagers often have th...more

This series keeps getting better. This time Kate is dealing with the aftermath of all the stuff that happened in California Demon. Daughter Allie knows that demons are real and that her mother is somehow connected with them. Kate has to confess her demon-hunting ways and of course, Allie is ready (she thinks)to join in. As they talk about demon hunting it inevitably leads to Eric, Kate's deceased husband and Allie's father. Kate discovers more about Eric than she wants to and realizes that he ha...more

This is probably a 3.5 star book - and there are some spoilers ahead, so stop reading now if you don't want me to ruin the story...
The first half of the book felt like it'd finally found it's own identity outside of simply being a Buffy knock-off. I was enjoying the fact that Timmy had kind of been pushed to the background in favor of Allie. But then some bad things happen and fellow missing hunter, Nadia (aka Faith), shows up out of nowhere (like Faith) and then turns out to be ba...more

The best part of Demons Are Forever is its title and maybe the cute cover art. It's the third in "Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom" series and the only one I've read (and am likely to read).
The reason I didn't enjoy the novel has nothing to do with it being midway through a series. The problem stems from: concept, setting and the execution of the mystery.
I don't know why Kenner felt compelled to add in all the back story about Kate Connor's training and...more

I'm officially hooked on this series, which always seems to happen when I finish the last book currently available. After two books of setup, Kenner has a full cast of well-developed characters. A few know Kate Connor's secret, like her best friends Laura, daughter Allie, and pseudo-grandfather-in-law Eddie. Others, like her trainter and sparring partner Cutter, are just curious. And a few are clueless, like husband Stuart. What really gets this story moving, though, is the addition of David Lon...more

I thought this is would be a good book to put me in the Halloween spirit and it did not disappoint. There's evil lurking everywhere, even in the suburbs, and Kate Connor helps out by hunting demons when she's not taking care of her children and home in San Diablo, CA. Although not highly intellectual, this was a entertaining read and not very horrifying - which is how I like things.
I enjoyed this book. Had a few predictable moments but overall well crafted. Kept me turning the pages at the end. Good characters, though the main character is a little flirtatious with the other men in her life which would be more appropriate if she was not married to a character running for office. Nice tough chics!!! Definitely my favorite part of the book! Good humor with the kind of sarcasm that I get as a busy mom. I enjoyed it and would read another novel by the this author.
I have always really enjoyed this series. I think more for the stay at home mom aspect than the Demon hunting, since I am not a Buffy fan. I cannot imagine living the kind of double life that the main character does.
This is the 3rd in the series and while it continues to have the same humor as the other two, I found it lacking in depth. The author usually goes into more detail and this one seems written very quickly with a lot less attention to the underlying story or little detai...more

A fun action series. The family drama is a little more prominent than I care for but it's probably spot-on for the supernatural romance crowd this is also aimed at. There's certainly a few times where I thought "oh come on, you're not over this yet?" with regards to the relationship conflict but it didn't cross the limit into unbelievable.
As usual, I started a series in the middle. Luckily, Kenner's writing style doesn't leave the reader feeling completely lost if they haven't read the previous book. On the flip side there wasn't an overload of recaps either, so I'm inspired to read the earlier books.
This book was a fun adventure. The mother-daughter relationship was sweet, albeit way too good to be true. A teenager who is respectful and obedient? *Gasp!* Mom was a tough broad!

The series is already getting kind of stale at this point. While it's enjoyable, parts of it are becoming repetitive and redundant. While it made sense at first, you can only take so many instances of "motherly pride" followed by "angsty dead ex-husband memories" followed by demons who pretty much go by the "we follow and obey our master" rule book. Thus why I do not *own* any of these books.
I picked this book at Half Price Books. I thought it would be a fun read. I didn't realize this was a series by Mrs. Kenner. (I haven't read the other books in the series.) But, I didn't need to. This books stands alone and it is a great ride. I can't wait to find out what happens next to Kate.
This one was pretty exciting all the way to the end. I'm anxious to see what happens in the next one now!
This one goes more in depth of Eric, the 1st husband and has much deadlier demons. And now the daughter is in on the action but not as much as she'd like to be.

I had a hard time getting into the first two books in this series, but I really enjoyed this one. This book delved into the mother/daughter relationship between two of the main characters and there was romance. And the last couple of pages made me gasp!
This series keeps getting better and better! Lots of intense action as Kate deals with telling Allie the truth about her demon hunting and keeping Stuart in the dark and facing some hard truths about David and Eric.
Can't wait for the next installment!

Really Enjoyable book. In this one Kate has to decide if her daughter's chemistry teacher - David Long - is really her dead husband Eric. She also has to stop a demon taking over the world and clean the house. Really cute series.
This is a pretty transparent book and actually has quite a few holes in the storyline if you go back and think about it. I listened to it on my mp3 player for a no thinking required book, and it fills that bill pretty well.
This book was fast paced and I will eventually read the next one, although I didn't like it as much as the last one. Frankly, I'm distracted these days though, so you never know...it may just be that my concentration is shot and it was better than I thought. LOL.
Goofy, definitely. And the protagonist is, in the tradition of many "cozy" murder mysteries, a doormat to family and friends- so if that annoys you, you won't like these (I can take that in small doses myself).
