This is the third book about Barbara Buncle. I love this series and reread it every year. Unfortunately D.E. Stevenson is disappearing from library shelves. Her writing is wonderful with humor and real understanding of human nature when influenced by a society of morality and ethics. I miss this foundation in current literature.

What can I say? I simply adore Barbara Buncle/Abbott. My only complaint about this book would be that there was not enough of Barbara featured in the novel. Thankfully the other characters were just as fun and charming to read about as Barbara herself.
From the opening page I found myself smiling and laughing and enjoying this book as much as I did the first Miss Buncle book. The lighthearted tone, charm and humor were all present and accounted for.
This 3rd and final book in the Miss More...

A tale of community life in England during WWII. One Mrs Abbott has a pair of adorable children; the other has a dear friend as her home help and plays host to a regiment and some refugees from the London bombing. We see how it was among those left behind while the armies fought, and we also see tasteful romance while young couples attempt to make the best of their lives in such deprived wartime circumstances.
I'm told this is part of a series, which explains why I had a little troubl More...

Now comes D.E. Stevenson continuing Miss Buncle, married, two children, not writing, not missing it. SIGH. The first book was fabulous and so funny. The second, nice to be with old friends. The third, while a funny twist on writers in the plot, somehow just not satisfying. No question though that Stevenson has the genre down perfectly, light as a nightingale's song but not funny. Glad to hear Miss Buncle book reissued by Persephone Press was on NPR. And author still aluding to Jane Austen.

Well, this was a disappointing follow-up for "Miss Buncle's Book" and "Miss Buncle Married," both of which I throughly enjoyed. It was not as well-written or as well-plotted. It was almost as though it was written just for the sake of cashing in on the popularity of the 1st two books. Not really recommended.

I continue to enjoy this series. Definately worth digging for these old books.

Another great trip to Wandlebury. I was engrossed in the authentic wartime story, both written and set during WWII. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, but I enjoyed getting to know characters from the previous novels even better and there was a cute romance.

Third in a series, with a somewhat misleading title - although the book certainly includes bits of the two Mrs. Abbotts, they are by no means the focus of the story. Indeed, the focus switches from character to character with practically every chapter. Stevenson ties it all nicely (and predictably) together in this light novel set during the War.

I love Goodreads. I never would have just picked up this author on my own. A lovely conclusion to this series.

I really enjoyed the last installment in Barbara Buncle's series. I wish there were more!
