We need to overcome our fears of self-doubt reflected in the degree of fear and misunderstanding of wealth. Money is not the problem, for there are many with it who do great things for others. The problem comes in loving it above all else. But what the misinformed don't understand (yes, you who see the rich as evil for obtaining their riches) is that we all desire great riches.

Who doesn't? Who doesn't want absolute freedom to do as one sees fit? and in doing so maximize our potentia...more

This is an excellent book if you can get past some of its distractions. First, it's rather dated and comes from what feels like a Christian perspective. This is immaterial to the practical content of the book. When Wattles uses the word "sin," don't get hung up on it, rather think of "sin" as "anti-evolutionary" or an act that stifles your natural positive inclinations. There are other dated terms that you shouldn't focus on too much.

The other big proble...more

Good little book 109pages a little old fashioned and could have been updated to a more modern language but hey it is from 1910.
When that's said i think the theories described is working, if you can
muster up the strength of your willpower and get things done using
the principles described in the book.

You can get what you want if you can change your way of thinking. There are, will always be obstacles but it i sent supposed to be easy anyway, you have to fight to get w...more

This was a book of extremes for me. There were parts I greatly enjoyed and agreed with and there were parts that I not only disliked but almost turned me off of the material completely. However, the pros outweigh the cons especially when considered from the basis of the principles instead of specifics.

I am a big believer in some of the main points that Wattles makes including the power of positive thinking, emulating what wealthy people do, gratitude is an essential component of weal...more

I have only been shown this book today and am already half way through it. It has astounded me. This book has eloquently summed up many of the ideas that I have been coming closer towards for years.

The first two main points I'd like to note are that 1) acquiring wealth is not bad or sinful, on the contrary, it enables one to fulfill their potential in all areas of life and adds to the greater good for everyone; and 2) acquiring wealth does not mean stealing wealth from others -- there...more

This book is using biblical passages to validate their points of which I don't fully agree with, such as we have to agree with the creed statements and memorize/meditate on them. Otherwise, if we have doubt, it's a sin and do not go to churches or lectures where a contrary concept of things is taught or preached or anything that teaches a different idea on pages 22-23, or chapter 4.

"You are to become a creator, not a competitor." p. 27 This is an interesting passage becaus...more

I downloaded this book for free online in February of 2007 and bought the paperback Barnes & Noble reprint in September of 2007.

This book has changed my life. It has inspired ideas and plans in me that I never thought existed. It changed the way I saw the world, and actually worked to draw me nearer to my dreams as a result of the way the world works. I recommend everyone who is inspired to do more in their lives to read this, as it is a life changing book.

I LOVED this book! Required reading for every man, woman and child. As soon as Max is old enough I'm going to read it to him. Who needs Mother Goose when you've got Wallace Wattles.

This book is just full from beginning to end of powerful teachings and divine wisdom. It unabashedly touts the benefits power of optimism, belief, faith, hard work, enthusiasm, gratitude, personal magnetism, leadership, progress and personal increase. Full of wisdom and truth. Profound yet simple. Profoun...more

There were some good principles discussed in this book, the most important of which is that each of us has a moral obligation to strive to fulfill our own potential. However, I don't agree with the primary premise of the book, that getting rich is synonymous with fulfilling our potential. Unfortunately, for ever good principle or truth discussed in the book, it seemed like there were ten times as many falsehoods and fallacies. And in the end, the book didn't live up to its title. It provided...more

THERE is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

Wattles points out that there is an exact science of getting rich. He strongly believes t...more

This book is almost a How-to to get-rich book, I read this book because an instructor from one of my business classes recommended. I found it to be quite useful, the values and the lessons embedded in this straight forward book could be put in practice by anyone who is willing to change their lives around and live a better one. It doesn't just focus on money, it also focuses on how people think sometimes, of themselves, their environment and people around them. The auto-suggestion to one's subco...more

Wattle really opened my eyes to why I haven't been more successful. There's a ton of life changing information packed into this tiny book. I'm going to continuously reread it and meditate on his message in order to consciously change my thoughts. I think the hardest part of this "program" is going to be not getting swept up into the prevailing doom-and-gloom, poverty mentality that surrounds me. It seems like everyone is saying "NO, I CAN'T and neither can you!" I'm going to ...more

Written 100 years ago, the straight forward, "pray, move your feet, and mind your mind" advice in this solid, basic primer on living a life rich in all good things still packs a punch. It's one of the most accessible books on the spiritual principles behind prosperity, even after all this time, because it offers idea in bite-sized, easily digested chunks, effectively uses repetition to drive ideas home (but does so without becoming boringly repetitive), gives examples for practical app...more

this book is a horrible waste of time. If I could rate it negative five stars I would. It was suggested by an unnamed source and I strongly discourage anyone in my friend groups from reading it. I refused to finish the book as it's concepts though flattering are the concepts and philosophies of men and in my opinion anyone who loves and trusts their father in Heaven should avoid it as in my opinion it is designed to confuse people. It flat out tells you not to believe in a God that wants us ...more

Modern physics tell us that the universe consists of potentiality, that the whole of existence whether past or present, animate or inanimate, are all part of a whole, and at the same time each part represent the whole. We are all interconnected instantly, non-locally, and have infinite potential and possibilities.

So it is possible that thought can make reality, that the creative universe wants to unfold itself and the desire in us is a manifestation the universe's creative energies...more

This book didn't actually say anything. Instead it just talked in broad generalities and asked that readers adopt and believe a very strange creed:

"There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imagined by the thought.

A person can form things in this thought, and by impressing his thought upo...more

I have learned as Bob Proctor constantly quotes from this book, that getting rich is a function, not of doing certain things, but of doing things in a certain way.

The way I have found is by living my life with gratitude in my heart, constantly. While I have not yet arrived, I have accelerated my journey, and I am clearly on the path to where I desire to be, and am already noticing vast changes in my life, and in the speed of my daily progress.
Chris Ross
This is a very good book. I listened to the audio book and I plan to listen to it multiple times. I will be reading the two hard copy books I have too. This book was written years before Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich and is along the same vein. Wattles lists a definite three step process for getting rich and one must be rich in all three areas to be truly rich. One must remain creative rather than competitive to get rich and give more in value than one gits with each transaction to tr...more

This is an AWESOME book and very motivating also. The only reason that I gave it four stars is because it is a little bit antiquated (it was written 100 years ago) and he gets kind of redundant sometimes. Also, I don't fully agree with a few of his points. But the main points are great and very helpful in my journey...

This is a book I review each month. It is great for helping re-program adverse messages that were instilled in me as a kid.

This is one of the core precursors to the glut of Law of Attraction books and mateirals out there. A core read for those intent on getting the most out of life.

This is a book in the tradition of "As a man thinketh", a book with a simple idea that can change your life. It is a book that requires reading more than once because it is deceivingly simple yet you need to think it over to really get a grasp of what it is about.

An inspiring self-help book which gives me a whole new perspective of life. Makes me do things better and with greater motivation and enthusiasm. Brings belief and hope in to logic. Excellent for those who is struggling to dwell with life

I read this for my Prosperity Plus class. There is so much packed into this little book. So simple, yet so many don't follow it. So far great experience for me in the prosperity class. Keeping my vision and attention where I want it...

I really enjoyed reading this book. Its message really is pretty much the same as that in The Secret but its delivered in a more primitive format...kind of makes it original and I really liked it for that reason.

In my mind, this is a must read for everyone! I had read Rhonda Byrne's "The Secret" first and heard her mention Wallace Wattles as one of her mentors, so I decided to give it a whirl. Well, it became obvious that Rhonda basically rewrote this book, softened the Christian slant, and called it "The Secret". I loved this book! I'm trying to put his methods into action so if I'm rich soon you'll know whether you want to read this book or not! I should add that it's a very s...more

He has practically the same theory as The Secret, that we are the ones that "put it out there" through our thoughts and that we MUST "put out there" the thought of positive-ness.
Janis
This book concisely outlines how to use visualization to impress our thoughts upon the formless substance and bring the desired or circumstances into material form. Wallace Wattles shows how to get in touch with the universal energy in order to manifest one's deepest desires.
Jo Banks
Unbelievably good book. If you're interested in the Law of Attraction, it's a definite 'must read'. Highly recommended. Much more intelligent than The Secret.

Wallace Delois Wattles was an American author. A New Thought writer, he remains personally somewhat obscure, but his writing has been widely quoted and remains in print in the New Thought and self-help movements. Wattles' best known work is a 1910 book called The Science of Getting Rich in which he explained how to become wealthy.

He studied the writings of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel...more
