A fantastic, gripping read. Enjoyable. A woman is jilted at the alter and as she sits outside the empty church thinking how she will deal with being jilted and encompassed with confusion the church behind her blows up!
Then shortly someone tries to run her off the road as she drives home, then the one who jilted her a few days later after being AWOL turns up but his presence is short lived.
Buildings are being blown up including the jilted one's new apartment and the whole time buildings are bein...more

I don't know why I'm attracted to stories about weddings that go awry, but even by my warped standards, this one was a whopper. Nina, the bride is at the church when the groom's best man delivers a note 20 minutes before the nuptials stating that he (Robert) can't go through with their wedding. Then, within minutes of Nina leaving the church, it explodes. After being questioned by Sam Navarro, the bomb specialist assigned to the case, Nina is finally released. Distraught, and possibly in shock,...more

Keeper of the Bride is the 12th stand-alone novel by best-selling American author, Tess Gerritsen, and is the 2nd book of the Her Protector series. When her fiancé leaves her stranded at the altar, Nina Cormier is sure things can’t get any worse. Then the church explodes and she faces hours of questioning before a stiff, unfeeling automaton from the Portland Bomb Task Force, Sam Navarro, subjects her to more of the same. As Sam tries to determine for whom the bomb was meant, Nina is almost run o...more

I should preface this review by stating that I was given this book by my mother, who thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am in no way a book snob: anything that encourages people to read and enjoy reading is a massive plus in my book.

However, this was simply terrible writing, and I appreciate it was one of Tess Gerritsen's earlier works, but it is simply substandard.

The dialogue was stilted and just didn't scan as being real, the characters weren't even two dimensional, the plot wafer thin and the repetitio...more

Picked up at Ward 14, Kings Mill Hospital. I love Tess Gerritsen's writing, and couldn't resist reading this one which was new to me. It is one of Gerritsen's earlier novels re-released, so has...more

Well, I've read a lot of Tess Gerritsen's books and have really enjoyed them for their strong characters and they way she weaves a mystery.

That said, I was NOT prepared for a Harlequin Romance. That's right, you heard me. This was actually a Harlequin Romance Novel, one of several she appears to have written earlier in her career.

It was one of those books you pick up when you're in the mood to read but not in the mood to get too involved or to think too much. It was okay, and it was a quick rea...more

This was a good book overall. It kept me interested through most all of it. However, I think some of it was a little redundant and/or predictable with the love story aspect of it. This was the first book of Tess Gerritsen's ive read that hasn't had a lot of medical aspects to it, of course one of the main characters was a nurse, but that was such a small part of it. This book focuses mainly on the detective side of it, which in this case is a Bomb Squad detective. Of course, true to Gerritsen's...more

I'm a fan of Tess Gerritsen's Jane Rizzoli books (not the TV show, but the books) and also a reader of Romantic Suspense, so when I saw this book, it was a no brainer for me. I'm amazed by the people complaining on Amazon that the book is a Harlequin romance--the publisher is identified right in the book details. It's generally a good idea to read the details before clicking the buy button. Fewer surprises that way. But for me, while I'm not certain police investigations, and especially the bomb...more

I guess I should have known better since the book was published by Harlequin Romance. Detective Sam Navarro of the Portland Maine bomb squad (would you think Portland Maine would need a bomb squad to begin with?)is sent to investigate the bombing of a church only to meet Nina Cormier a young nurse who was destined to marry a doctor only to be left at the alter. What unravels from there is a series of dead bodies, large explosions and a lot of digging to find out why someone is trying to kill Nin...more

Keeper of the Bride is one of those old school romantic mysteries. You know, the ones where guns have unlimited bullets and when the hero gets shot he still manages to save the girl before he finally gets dragged off to hospital under protest.
It's good entertaining fluff. Well worth a look but only if you like fluff. I for one do.

This book contains two stories.
Story 1 has a young woman whose wedding was targeted by a bomber, joining forces with a detective to hunt down the bomber.
Story 2 has a...more

Disappointing. Whilst the basic plot line was good (and so unusual I would never have guessed the reasons for the original attack), there were more parts to dislike about this book than like. I don't enjoy books which become too embroiled in the whole man/woman thing - why put that in?? It just makes it all too predictable, and the cop makes some silly basic mistakes, which just means that I end up getting irritated with the character. That then detracts from the story. I was also disappointed w...more

I've recently started reading the rizzoli and isles series which so far I've greatly enjoyed. But this book by tess gerritsen didn't seem to have that 'I really want to know what happens next' edge of your seat suspense that I've come to expect from this author.

It was still ok but I found myself quickly reading it because I just wanted to get to the end and not because I particularly enjoyed it, which is disappointing! I know this book is one of tess gerristen's 'romance novels' that was first...more

This book was just what I needed! After a long and very involved book, I loved the fast pace of this one! It only took me about 3 hours to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

When Nina was left at the alter by her beloved Robert, she had no idea her life was about to change forever. She was in terrible danger, and she had no idea!

When Detective Sam Navarro of Portland police (bomb squad) was called to investigate a bomb going off in the church Nina had just left, he was intrigued by Nina. The mi...more

Tess Gerritsen mixes romance with mystery in Keeper of the Bride, part of a series of Harlequin Protector novels. Any fears I had that the bride would be whiny and self-involved were quickly put to rest. Nina turns out to be a strong, caring ER nurse who gets mixed up in a greater plot. While she is blind to her fiance's infidelity and to the jerk he is, she does not mope over the loss or allow him to lay the blame on her. I only wished she had punched him at least once. Luckily, Sam, the bomb s...more

I am ashamed to admit I read this! I thought it was a crime/thriller book, but alas it is a Mills and Boon with gore. Sigh. Anyway, one lives and learns..but not in the book apparently - the bride abandoned at the altar immediately falls in love with the cop investigating the bombing of the church....puhleeeze...Obviously people read these books, so it must just be me being cranky about the amalgamation of soft porn, mindless violence and thin story line..
I should have noticed the Harlequin publ...more

This was in our rented condo in San Diego, and since I read The Night Circus so fast, I needed something to read. Opposite the title page Gerrisen admits to getting hooked on romance novels and writing suspense novels that are "love stories in which danger meets desire and hearts-as well as lives-are at stake". I kid you not. So needless to say, it was the PERFECT beach read. I read it in one afternoon. Now I need something else to read for our next 3 days...

The book gets off to a good start with Nina Cormier being left at the altar by her surgeon groom and then having the church blow up behind her. Why would anyone want to kill this lovely, caring nurse? Bomb squad expert, Sam Navarro, pits himself against a deranged bomber who seems to go to great lengths to dispose of people who have no idea who he is. Plenty of action but a sort of cheesy, predictable romantic ending, which is fine by me.

Nice romance mystery novel from one of my favorite authors, Tess Gerritsen. I've read all her thriller books and recently found out she started her career as a romance writer. Someone is trying to kill Nina by blowing up her wedding which is luckily cancelled when her fiance leaves her at the altar. Slowly falling for the bomb squad detective Gerrittsen keeps the suspense and romance coming as they try to solve who wants Nina dead and why. Nice little read.

I hate giving Gerritsen anything less than a "three star" rating, because I really do enjoy her stuff. I just happen to enjoy her non-romance much more than her romance - it's far more believable and enjoyable for me. While I wouldn't recommend her romance books, I do still try to read all of her books that I can, because I like her that much. So - don't throw out the author with the book.

Normally I can whip through a Tess Gerritsen novel in no time, and still find them a satisfying read. This one, however, was NOT one of them. It is your typical Harlequin romance novel - which much to my chagrin I only realized after starting book. I'm not going into the plot or summarize this book because I am sorely disappointed in this book. Ms. Gerritsen is usually a MUCH better story teller than this book would indicate. Save your money for something more worthwhile is all I'm going to tell...more

It's okay, if you're looking for a short romance that covers all the typical elements. Sam and Nina's "I love her but it won't work out in the end/he doesn't love me, he's just a cop" will probably grate on your nerves from the repetition.

Really not big on Gerritsen's older romantic suspenses. Her later medical thrillers are more entertaining.

Mystery lovers beware. This was written back in the 90's and the book reads like a Harlequin. A bomb-squad cop falls for a beautiful bride who is left at the alter. They meet when the church explodes during what would have been her wedding. I kept reading because I wanted to find out why a bomber was after the bride, but the hand-wringing over their romantic complications got on my nerves. I'm glad Gerritsen progressed as years went on.
Laylah
Early Tess Gerritsen. The romance feels a little abrupt to my taste. The suspense is not so suspenseful when you see it coming ten or so pages before. Overall Keeper of the bride is another generic rom-suspense. Nothing too glaring to recommend against or for. I'm not sorry I read it, but I maybe forget all about it a week from now.
Lynn Clinton
Blah. Blah blah blah. That sums up this book. Not glaringly bad, but seriously not good. Love story.... Blah. Murder mystery... Blah. I wanted to read this author because I line the Rizzoli and Isles tv series on TBS. after reading this book, I can only assume the tv show writers are better than this author. They can't make a tv show out of blah.
Diane Hunt
Not one of Tess Gerritsen's best reads, but I've definitely read worse books. I guess this book goes back to her romance writer days and it's a re-release. I bought it before I knew that, but it wasn't a bad book, there was some mystery going on, but not the ususal thriller stuff I read from her.
Liesbeth
I actually really enjoyed it!
Just recently I haven't been able to concentrate on books much, but this held my attention, and it is a decent read.
Gerritsen always writes well, writing style wise this book is no exception.
Not as gruesome as her later work, and much more romance, but she carries it off perfectly.
Nan Williams
One of her earlier books re-released. It was a Harlequin Romance and read like one. It was OK - very simplistic, very shallow, completely lacking in credibility.

I prefer her later books with the well researched medical information, interesting characters and well crafted plots.
Melissa Watson
This book was a romantic thriller. The chemistry between the woman who escaped the bomb explosion and the cop is intense. It was a great mystery. Sam works to protect her from a mad bomber who is trying to kill her because she saw his new face. Sam becomes too involved.
Nancy Brady
A suspenseful romance about a jilted bride and the detective who saves her from a homicidal bomber. Why she is targeted is the crux of the suspense, but along the way romance happens between the pair. Not as suspenseful as her medical thrillers, still an enjoyable read
Mark Levine
Oh, gawd! It's a Harlequin Romance! Still, plenty of thrills and chills, and just a tad too much agonizing over the relationship. This was actually published years ago -- I keep wondering if she used any of these characters again in her later bestsellers...

Internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen took an unusual route to a writing career. A graduate of Stanford University, Tess went on to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was awarded her M.D.

While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. Call After Midnight, a romantic thriller...more
