This is a funny story about a little boy who is looking for his own special talent in a family full of prize-winners. Each year at the State Fair, there are dozens of contests to enter, but Frederick never wins. The illustrations are colorful and humorous and the narrative is fun to read aloud. We enjoyed reading this book together and our girls helped with the louder parts of the narrative.

We discovered this book after reading Opera Cat and Encore, Opera Cat!, also by Tess Weaver More...

This is the story of Frederick Finch, who happens to be a loudmouth. Evry year his family goes to the fair and everyone wins some competition but him. He wants to win something so he practices all kinds of things. He finally creates something to enter into a competition but while at the fair he finds out about another competition he is sure to win.

Cute story of a boy finding out what he is good at (even if it is being a loudmouth). The kids (and mom) loved the illustrations.

A nice and simple tale about what it means to be unique. Some of the fair jokes are funny, but overall it is a light book.
