I think that this book is really an interestingt book and i would recommend students like me to read this book. The main characters in this book includes Wilbur and Charlotte.
Charlotte’s Web” is a tale of unconditional, selfless love. A love not unlike that of our Savior. The story’s beauty lies in its simplicity. I was moved deeply by this faithful presentation of E. B. White’s timeless classic children’s story.

I grew up without reading this book. For some, that seems to be unimaginable. I can maybe understand why. My wife and I are reading it now, or I should say, I am reading it aloud before bed, and it's really wonderful. I could totally see why it would be a kind of life-formative book. I was reading a passage last night and laughing at it (there is so much in here that is really funny), and it made me wonder about the level of the humor. That is, would the kid me have thought this was funny o...more

people who failed English, but love books
Within 3 minutes of reviewing its Top 100 Novels Written in English List, I knew The Modern Library was irrelevant. That's because it failed to include CHARLOTTE'S WEB. I mean, I realize that children's literature is considered a joke by most intellectuals, but get serious. Anybody who reads this story and fails to recognize its greatness doesn't really like books, in my opinion.

A beautiful book. I think one of my favorite things about it (and probably one of my favorite things when I was a kid reading it) is that it doesn't talk down to the reader while providing a whole lot of interesting information. Let's face it, you learn a lot about spiders! I could never convince myself that any of them were as cool as Charlotte, but it was nice to know why they did what they did. The feelings were also very recognizable, even if life on a farm was not, starting with Fern's lov...more

I bought this book as a birthday present and the funny thing is the person's name is also Charlotte, so I gave Charlotte's Web (the book) to Charlotte (the person).
Charlotte is a spider who can spin words on her web. She lives in a barn with other animals. One day, a piglet was born on the farm. The piglet was so small and the farmer thinks that it won't live long and it's going to die soon. Fern, the farmer's daughter decided to take care of the piglet. She nursed the piglet with a bottle a...more

Yay! This book was a welcome relief after reading Alice in Wonderland! haha. Although simplistic at times, it's a sweet tale about friendship between a pig and a spider. It also teaches interesting things throughout the book, such as facts about the different animals on the farm. I was actually amazed to learn some different things about...spiders!!! Eek! It also went into a bit of the importance of different animals to the circle of life, but weaved so well into the story that (at least ...more

I read this book three times and my opinion of the book has changed each time. The importance of this? Just think how complex and well written a book is if you can take different meanings from a novel at different stages of your life.
Here is a mini recap of what I thought each time I read it...
4th Grade: Poor piggy! I'm glad he found a nice spider friend. I'm so sad that Charlotte died at the end! But I still hate spiders.
8th Grade: I guess it is a really good outlook on growing up...more

This is the story of a runt pig named Wilbur who is saved from death by Fern, a young farm girl. Wilbur is soon sold to Fern's uncle who plans to raise the pig for slaughter, but in the meantime befriends the other farm animals including a barn spider (Charlotte) who plots to save the pig from his fate.
What a classic! I don't know how many times I have read this book. I read it as a child, loved the 1973 animated version (especially the voice of Paul Lind as Templeton) and have read it as ...more

This book will always have a special place in my heart as the first "chapter book" I ever read. When I read it as a kid, it was a wonderful book about a talking pig and a magical spider. Re-reading it recently as an adult, it was no less wonderful and magical but I realized that it's also laden with somber themes of growing up, growing old and death, which were invisible to me as a child.
"Why did you do all this for me?" [Wilbur] asked. "I don't deserve it. I've n...more

You have to read the book to appreciate the movie. A funny adventure about friendship, loyalty, being young and getting old, surviving and letting go. A very odd passage from the novel quoted from Wilbur telling off the lamb who refuses to play with him because to him pigs mean less than nothing:
"What do you mean less than nothing? I don't think that there is any such thing as less than nothing. Nothing is absolutely the limit of nothingness. It's the lowest you can go. It's the end of ...more

to all children (children need to read more! and not just read crap, but good classics)
A children's book that was a basic constant in my childhood, though I think this has more to do with the cartoon version that I'd watch over and over again. I don't think I read the actual book until I was much older in elementary school, probably. When reading it, I had a better understanding of the sadness of the whole story that just wasn't as evident in the cartoon, what with all the singing and gluttonous rats. Of course a children's classic, though admittedly, sometimes I have to think ...more

All Pig Lovers!!!
I instantly fell in love with Wilbur the pig after picking up E.B. White's classic tale. It’s not for the faint of heart however innocent the cover depicting a young girl holding a plump piglet might seem. The story of Charlotte the spider and Wilbur is a lovely picture of the deep, meaningful friendships that buoy us in the arduous waters of life. Hilarious at times, grave at others, it depicts Wilbur's struggle for a release from the harsh fate received by all pigs on a farm; slaughtered for...more

There is a little "bring one take one" library at one of the schools I work at. I got all excited till I saw that all the books were crap. But, excitement came back when I saw the children's library, "take one home for your kids." I saw Charlotte's Web and read it on my breaks which prompted some stupid lady to inform me, "You know there are adult books here too!" I didn't punch her, but I wanted to.
So anyway...I was reading it and, although it was super goo...more

It's embarassing to note that the book I read was just a borrowed one; I haven't heard of Charlotte's Web nor of E.B. White before. But I was glad I did borrow it from my classmate; iI actually read it before she did.
What can be seen on the surface as a simple story is actually filled with stories that children should learn while still young and which adults should always remember. Compassion and care for other people is what truly stands out for me. E.B. White is also successful in making t...more

Not to be too cheesy, but this really is a timeless children's book. Having grown up on a farm where I insisted on naming even those animals that were farm animals and not pets, this book struck a chord as I tried to understand the difference.
My mother gave me her copy of this book when I was sick as a child. The book was yellowed and dog-earred and even the cover had been torn off. Instead, she redrew the image and font from the original cover on white cardboard and bound it to the book wit...more

I read this one again a few months ago; I want to read the books I loved as a child now that my own child is growing. Some adults I talk to see children's books as something lesser, small moralizing tales they thought meaningful as children but dismiss as adults. How anyone could read this book and say that is difficult for me to understand. In Charlotte's Web, the world is fully realized; the humans and the animals are true to their natures, and nobody could hold that against them. But what st...more

Am I the only person who didn't like this book? I mean, really, where does everyone's love of Charlotte's Web stem from? I don't feel like there was very much character development...I wasn't sad when Charlotte died (by the way, I may have been the only person on the planet who didn't know this). I didn't really care about the pig, and what's up with the girl, who I guess ends up trading her love of animals in for some sort of affair with the boy next door? There is so much better kids lit o...more
