The Barnes & Noble Review
Did you know that the same street that now features Disney musicals and high-tech movie multiplexes was once a hotbed of prostitution and pornography? Author Marc Eliot has written an informative and eye-opening chronicle of "the Deuce," otherwise known as Manhattan's 42nd Street.

It seems that 42nd Street has always been the entertainment capi

This book recently appeared in our Little Free Library, and, as I love "underground" American history, I couldn't resist it. A thoroughly engrossing history of the evolution of New York City's infamous 42nd Street - from the early days of the "Great White Way" era up through the proliferation of crime and pornography of the 1970's and 1980's and the efforts of the city to return the Times Square area to the tourist destination they envisioned it as. A definate must read for anyone seriously interested in the history and culture of NYC's entertainment district.
