Finally, I have time to do some reviewing.

I liked and didn't like Wolf Speaker, but first let me make clear that Miss Pierce's writing didn't disappoint me, I still find it beautiful.

I like animals, but I'm not crazy about them, certainly not crazy in love with them enough to put up with almost 300 pages of Daine and the animals she talks to.
Wolf Speaker was boring.
Now, I do realize that this sequel was the stepping stone for the other two installments and it More...

Oh my god. I don't have words to explain how I feel right now.

It dosen't take long for the story to shift in shape.
There is no lingering and much rememberence on the first book to get annoyed with.
And it dosen't take long chapters for you to be intrigued.

There was so much going on yet, so organized that I was so pleased when it ended. It made me feel warm and longing after, and mind you not many books makes me feel this way.

This book reminded More...

This second book in Tamora Pierce's THE IMMORTALS QUARTET centers around the further development of Daine's magical ability to communicate with animals.

The story begins when the wolf pack that lives near her former home village sends an envoy to ask for her assistance communicating with the humans who are ruining the lands where these wolves hunt. Daine, who owes a debt of gratitude to these wolves for having cared for her o More...

The second book in the series begins after Diane's training under him has progressed a sufficient amount and she has trully begun to master her ability to shapeshift and communicate with animals. It is also here that all of the responsibilities that come along with her powers begin to trully be explored as a regular part of th world. Being that she is the only one who can understand animals, the wolves comes to her. Being between the human world and nature and playing the part of the typical fan More...

This didn't excite me as much as its predecessor, Wild Magic, primarily for the following reason:

Daine and Numair are in the forest then
Daine enters into the mind of an animal.
Daine and Numair and some wolves are in the forest then
Daine enters into the mind of an animal.
Daine and Numair go to a castle then

Book two of The Immortals series finds Daine and Numair heading to the valley of Dunlath to answer the call of help from Daine's old wolf pack.

The Long Lake pack have asked her to come help rectify the balance in their new home; wood cutters are destroying the forest and chasing away all the game. But it turns out the problem is far more complicated then it seems. With the presence of Ogres, Stormwings, and traitors to the crown, to name just a few, Daine must discover and More...

Daine, a 14-year-old possessor of wild magic, receives a message from Brokefang, the leader of the Long Lake Pack, asking her to come to Dunlath Valley. When she arrives with Numair Salmalin, a powerful mage, Kitten, an infant dragon, and Cloud, her faithful pony, the wolf tells her that people are destroying the valley and asks her to make them stop. Daine discovers a dastardly plot to usurp the Tortlallan throne, and fuel the expansion plans of nearby Carthak. This book is peopled by wonderful More...

Daine and her teacher, Numair, are answering the call of Daine's pack when they realize that they have stumbled upon something far more dangerous than forest depletion. The wolves need Daine's help to restore the natural balance in their home. The humans are up to something; they are mining and cutting down trees, and there are new mages and soldiers in the once peacefull fief. The Lady Yolane, a close relative of the King, is desperate for power and believes that she should be in control of the More...

A lot of folks seem to be less interested in this one because it's so animal-centric. I actually don't mind that at all; it's part of what I love about this series: Daine's relationships with various animals, and the consequences of those relationships. In a lot of books, talking animals seem to annoy me somewhat, but Pierce manages to write the animals in such a way that they actually feel like real characters to me, and not just cute little sidekicks. Daine is separated from Numair for most of More...

More like 3.5 stars. I think I would really like to live in Pierce's world, especially be acquainted with all the cool people and the animals. That said, Pierce is the only author, I think, who can make me weep over a death of a cat. That's the second time she does this... or maybe third... this woman needs to stop killing cats! The days she kills a dog I'll probably go into mourning for a week.
Honestly I thought these books would be more tied together, I realize there are overlapping them More...

Great for those who love books about talking animals and bratty ten-year olds

Daine and her master, Numair, head out to meet up with Daine's old pack of wolves. Apparently, there is some disturbance to the hunting grounds, and the wolves want the two-leggers to stop mining and farming and such so the game will return. But the rulers of the land, Tristan and Yolane, refuse. Can Daine bring about peace without a bloodbath?

You know that saying about how a sequel is rarely as g More...

The second book of the Immortals series again finds Diane in the middle of a secret war between Tortall and Carthak. This time her main animal companions are wolves and for the most part she is separated from any human companionship.

I liked this book somewhat better than the first book, but for me the same problems persist. Every animal in the forest recognizes her as a friend and flock (literally) to her. Oh, except Frostfur 'the main female wolf' with whom she has many straine More...

If I weren’t writing a review for every single book this year, this would definitely be one that I would skip. This is a clear transition book and I really don’t have much to say about it. I liked it; I didn’t love it. I never felt annoyed, bored, moved, or enthusiastic about this book. I listened to it while running errands and doing some cleaning and it was the perfect background.

Oh, how I adore these books. Reading one, even if it's new to me, is like slipping into comfy jammies and relaxing with old friends.

They're just so well-crafted... the characters are virtuous, but not *too* virtuous... and it's a pleasure to make the journey with them as they learn to overcome their flaws or accept new viewpoints.

Also, why is it that with these books, person-death, while sad, doesn't make me cry, but animal-death has me bawling?? The same happened with th More...

In this second installment of Tamora Pierce's Immortals Quartet Daine and Numair travel to Dunlath Valley at the request of Daine's old wolf pack. The second book of THE IMMORTALS series. Wolf!

Daine is here to help save the wolves who DON'T eat human for fun. (Actually, we taste pretty bad) Along the way Daine starts to understand that she can actually shape-shift between animal and human. Daine has been called North to Dunlath Valley by the pack of wolves that used to live near her hometown. The wolves are concerned because the humans of Dunlath Valley are exploiting its natural resources (although they certainly don't express their concerns in those words). I enjoyed Wolf-Speaker even more than its predecessor. I felt like, in Wild Magic, Daine had come into her own without realizing it by the end of the story, and that Wolf-Speaker is the story of her testing, so to speak.

I enjoyed meeting the new (fully-fleshed-out) characters, but I enjoyed watching Daine fend for herself and protect others even more. She is, in the course of the story, separated from the adults that gave her guidance and support in Wild Magic, and the stakes bec More...

I think I personally liked this book less than the first one. There are barely any human characters in it for the majority of the novel. Okay, the animal "characters" were interesting, but I think one of the charms of the first book for me was Diane struggling to fit in with humans. Another thing that at first irked me was her getting a new ability to change shape...my first thought was that she was turning out to be a Mary Sue character and get new abilities throughout the story, whic More...

Okay, in this book you find out a bit more about Daine though not as much as you find out in Wild Magic or The Realm of the Gods. You also find out more about her old pack and the past that was hinted at in Wild Magic. You get to experience a unique perspective when it comes to Daine and the wolves. It is actually very beautiful and if you are a wolf lover you are sure to enjoy it! Yes, I read the first two books in the series on the same day. That should tell you how good they are! In this book Daine gets to act more on her own, when she and Nuamir visit the fief of Dunlath and find that all is not well. The Emperor of Carthak is continuing in his machinations to bring unrest and war to Tortall, and more immortals (Stormwings - a kind of harpy with metal wings, basilisk, and ogres) have been brought through. Daine's bond and communication with animals continues to ser More...

Such fun! The plot doesn't feel as fast-paced as _Wild Magic_, but I didn't mind because this book makes up for it with character development.

For the first time, Daine has to complete a mission on her own, largely without the help of Numair, and she spends most of the book being rather cranky about it, which is awesome. She also has to deal with a younger sidekick, angst about the way in which her powers are changing her animal friends, and challenges to her beliefs about the inh More...

★★★★☆ I loved it

Once again, I am happily surprised at how much I loved this next instalment in The Immortals! Maybe it's the cover, the lack of love story or the lack of humour that doesn't make me want to instantly pick up a book of this series, but once I start reading I have a hard time stopping. Tamora's writing is much more intelligent than alot of the best-sellers out there and her books don't need to rely on the previously mentioned aspects to hold it's readers attention. The More...
