What a great book this was! It was my first book to read in Brenda Joyce's de Warenne Dynasty, even though it is actually book #11 in the series. Looks like I'll have to backtrack and read more about this family as they sound different and eccentric and right up my alley!

A Dangerous Love features Emilian, a tortured hero with one foot living in the Romany world and another foot in the Englishman's world. His mother is Romany but ever since he was 12 years old he has been raised by his Aristocrat

I recently re-read this book and was startled to find I hadn't written a review for it. How could this be? The De Warenne Dynasty novels were my first proper romances. And in a way, my first loves- the very reason I adore this genre. They hold a very special place in my heart so it's high time I do this wonderful book justice.

Joyce has created two intriguing characters, both so vastly different and yet twin souls.

Ariella De Warenne ~ courageous in heart and spirit, passionate for knowledge and

As was so pleased with how much I enjoyed the Perfect Bride that I decided to try another book in the same series. Unfortunately that didn't prove to be a very wise decision in the end because both the hero and the heroine annoyed me to no end.

The hero is half gypsy. He was made to leave his mother to go live with his father while still a child, he was made fun of and abused while growing up and even today, after he inherited a title, he is not well received in the neighborhood. He takes his rev

Another late-post to Goodreads;

Having enjoyed A Lady at Last (mostly) - I wanted to read Ariella's book, A Dangerous Love, and I do look forward to Alexi's, however, I am completely indifferent about this book. I adore Ariella's wit and charm, and I do like Emilian's sense loyalty towards the Romany people, but, the characters didn't quite do it for me. Emilian was indecisive about his role; Englishman or Rom? And I like books with some internal battles, but I felt it

I managed to get 100 pages into this book before giving up. I got to the point that I had said too many times to myself, "oh, come on! Are you serious?".....that I just stopped caring what happened next. I started this series with Masquerade and I loved that book, but every story from there has slowly gotten worse. Maybe I need to give this series a break... The leading lady here is initially introduced as such a strong, independent woman but then 10 minutes into meeting this half-Rom guy she ...more

Ariella fell in love at first sight. And then, whatever the way he behaved, talked to her, treated her, she could not prevent being in love and forgiving him and loving him as he is.
She's so freaking perfect: beautiful, intelligent, caring, compassionate, courageous, etc. that she really got on my nerves. Not once did she show anything that might someway resemble to a normal default.
On the other hand, Emilian had almost nothing in his favor, except his body and abilities in bed (8 times the firs

This is on the list of worst books I've ever read. Both main characters are immature and completely unlikeable. The story isn't compelling, or even well written. The only reason read the whole thing is because I hoped there would be at least one redeeming quality. And because I'm a fool.

Bellissimo, commovente, emozionante e coinvolgente.

2.5 stars. It was okay. Really frustrating and I wanted to slap the hero. (Make up your fucking mind...jesussssssss.)

I simply feel in love with this story. It hits on a lot of truth of how life was back then.
Ariella is my kind of woman, has a strong head on her shoulders and want is what is right.
But most of all she wont give up on what she wants. Even if it scar’s her to death. The one thing she is 100% sure she wants from first sit is Emilian. Who is part gypsy and part English. But she believes in love at first sit and that is it for her. She strong and fights for what she wants. Now Emilian hates all white

It’s 1820 England and 24 year old Ariella De Warenne is living life on her own terms. Her loving father, Cliff, is not placing any expectations on her, knowing that when she falls in love he will support her. Viscount Emilian St. Xavier is a man with loyalties to two worlds. He was born to a gypsy mother, but raised by his English father from the age of ten. When Emilian and Ariella meet he is thirsting for revenge and she falls in love.

The story explores the truly ugly nature of prejudice and i

Ariella has always been a bit of an eccentric. Highly intelligent, with a vast thirst for knowledge, she has never desired a man. Indulged by her father, she has enjoyed the freedom to pursue her interests, even when he hoped she would one day find the true love of her life. Coming uopn the Romany gypsys camping on her father's fields, she is finally awakened to the passionate side of her nature by Emilian.

Emilian is half Roma and half English, and does not seem to fit in to either place. Subjec

I LOVED the heroine! She's SO like me. I liked the fact that it included Gypsy's, as they've always fascinated me. I think they added a spicy element :) I like also how there's a heroine more than a hero. Ariella rescues Emilian more than he rescues her. That's a nice change of pace from the usual damsel books. But Emilian's epiphany seemed a little too... easy? quick? But not quick, because of where in the book he has it, but... I don't know, it just didn't work for me. I'm glad that it ended ...more

Hero's the half-gypsy bastard legitimized son of an English nobleman who's faced prejudice his whole life. Heroine is the free-spirited daughter of an unusual family--she's very, very well traveled, and her parents don't care who she marries, as long as she's in love. And this gypsy guy--who they don't realize is the nobleman who owns a neighboring estate for half the book--isn't likely to love her back. They first meet him with a gypsy band and think he's their leader. The heroine is madly ...more

I have re-read this and since changed my rating. The beginning of the story is very, very good. It started out being executed quite perfectly. I really enjoyed this couple in the beginning but towards the end it becomes a big mess. BJ seems to have no direction or idea of how she wants them to be together. She wastes pages and pages of nonsense completely changing the format of the story for me. It lost it's goal, it showed no kind of resolution. I.Don't.Understand. Why. I am trying to persuade myself that this takes place in some sort of alternate universe England, because the whole of the plot rests on something that is impossible in this world. It is simply not possible for an illegitimate child to inherit a title, especially when there are legitimate heirs as close as a brother and nephew, no matter how slimy they are. I also have my doubts about a marriage ceremony which takes place without banns and as far as we are given to understand without a special ...more

2.5 stars - rounding down because there was no epilogue!

This book took too much to get going - threw too much history at me in the beginning before the H/h even met. I skimmed much of the first 1/3 and had to read the last chapter to keep me interested. I was interested and did keep reading, but skimmed/read the book.

It was okay.

This book was really intense. It was the first of de Warenne Dynasty and Brenda Joyce I had read. I was hooked. Her charecters were complex but neatly described. I probably cried in 4 or 5 different spots, it was such an emotional roller coaster. She's a really great writer and after reading this book I went back and checked-out at the library or purchased the prior books in the series. They're an intense family with lots of history and good family support (if they're willing to use it) and a ...more
