Six kids are sent on a disciplinary sailing cruise to learn to work together and to experience something other than their ordinary lives (which are all in disarray). Somewhere in the middle of the South Pacific, a giant storm comes up, the captain is swept overboard and the mate disappears with most of the supplies, and then the ship sinks. The kids manage to get to an unoccupied island but still face the problems of no food, water, or shelter. To complicate matters, one of the boys has amnesia...more

This is the second book in the Island series and it picks up where the last one left off: the group of 4 is washed upon the shore of an island in the middle of the ocean. This book dives into Will who's sister disappeared with another shipmate. Will has gone crazy for being on the water for so many days and he runs wild in the woods and doesn't remember the group at all. The group of 3 (minus Will) wander around the island and have to make shelter and find food, eventually they do. They come acr...more

I realy liked this book and I cant wait until I read the next book. I think that they could have had a better ending. JJ might be right about CNC and how they are just setting them up. The people on the island work together very well but every once in awhile they fight. When you here about what happend in this book about the war, you understand what the island is doing there and why there were paved roads. This book is great for kids 8 and up. My favorite character is Ian because he has the smar...more

The second Island book is just as good as the first, in different ways. The survival theme switches to the island, but the characters get even more developed.
Luke Haggerty and his four fellow castaways; Will, Charla, and Ian, have finally reached land after days adrift at sea. But now they are stranded on a small, tropical island in the middle of nowhere. They have no idea what might have happened to their fellows from the fated boat trip, Lyssa and J.J. And worst of all, Will, who was worst aff...more

I thought this book was very suspensful. It was great because it made me want to read more and more and more. The kids got stranded on te island and Will went crazy because he lost his memory. Smugglers came to the island to trade illegal animal parts to another pair of smuggglers. Luke and the rest of the gang have to find a way to stay hidden from the smugglers and stay alive. To know more about this book I recommened reading the whole series beause they are very interesting to read.

This book was a very good book. This book was about six kids who go on a cruise and learn how to work together. As they were on a ship in the ocean, a big storm hits. The ship sinks and the captain and some other people disappear. The six kids end up swimming to an island with no food, drinks, or shelter. They learn to work as a team to survive. Something happens on the island, but I don't want to spoil it. I recommend this book for people who like suspense book.
The sequel to Shipwreck, this book continues the story of Luke and the other kids that were with him on the fateful trip at sea that turned deadly. Having washed up on what they believe is a deserted island, they struggle to find food, shelter, etc. But they may not be alone as they think they are, and it is only through their ingenuity that they will survive.
A great follow up book, and I am excited to read the conclusion.

This is a great book for kids (or adults) that like adventurous and suspenseful books. In the vein of Gary Paulson's Hatchet, this is a survival story where 6 kids are on a boat and the unthinkable happens...a disaster that causes them to have to abandon ship. This is the second in a series of three books where they learn to live on a deserted island. It's a fun read and very engaging for kids in upper elementary school.
In Island Book 2 Survival by Gordon Korman, 4 kids from the first story Ian, Charla, Luke, and Will wash up on a mysterious island and just got separated from J.J. and Lyssa. One of the main starting events is that Will is waking up with Amnesia and remembers nothing of the crew, and none of the crew can find him. Another thing is that a plane landed on the other side of the island to there dismay it isn't anyone good. There traders of animal parts. While all of this is happening Will is still t...more
I enjoyed this one as much or more than the first one. I'm pleased that so far there aren't any romances blossoming on the island. I really like how the kids are working together to get things done and they are learning about themselves. It's sad about Will and I hope things work out with him. Nobody has died yet, so that's good. I still like this series better than the Everest series, although Island is a little bit less believable. I like the writing and the plot better though.

The sequel to Shipwrecked, Survival, picks up right where Korman left off! The young survivors are washed up on an isolated island somewhere in the Pacific ocean with no hope of rescue. The characters are forced to face the fact that they are stranded and must learn to survive on their own. A twist in the story comes when a group of smugglers are discovered using the island as a rendezvous location. Although a sequel Korman gives enough detail from the previous book that Survival could...more

Things get a bit ridiculous and unbelievable on the island in this one (very LOST-esque) but it's still top notch suspense/survival material for the 8-11 year old set who want the action without traumatizing details and gore (though there is a rather unfortunate incident with a boar and a shotgun). Holter Graham also narrates a bit slower in this one compared to the Book 1 audiobook, which is nice.
I think this is a good book because it is never boring. In the middle of the book they find the other 2 kids that they thought died. They find the base where the military had stuff from world war 2, and they got stuff for it. I would recommend this book because there is always something going on. If you like action/adventure books you would like this book.
This book was really good! I thought it was very suspenseful to see if they were going to survive. Gordon Korman kept you on the edge of your seat. After the kids got stranded on the island, Will went crazy and ran away. It was interesting because there were also criminals on the island. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It was really good.
Similar to the first book in this series - interesting enough to keep going - a bit too incredulous to be really great. Perhaps it is the narrator - either that makes it a bit overawed or that keeps me interested. I can't quite figure it out. At any rate, it will probably interest those who like adventure and action.
I really enjoyed this 2nd book of the Island series. This is an easy read with lots of adventure and action. Just when you do not think it can get any worse for the six kids shipwrecked and stuck on the island it does. My 9 year old daughter and my 12 year old son both enjoyed this book and we all look forward to the final book in the series.
Will, suffering from what only can be amnesia, abandons his fellow castaways. At the same time, Ian, Charla and Luke find out that they are sharing this island with smugglers! While Will tries to cope with the dangers of the woods, the hunt goes on for J.J. and Lyssa.
I reccomaned this book for those of you who like "Lost" and Survival stories.

After the Phoenix sinks, the six get trapped on an island that is recorded on no maps. In this book there is a fight for survival, and a fight to remain sane. It complicates things when illegal traders show up with guns. Worst of all, they stumble upon a long forgotten World War two relic. An atomic bomb named Jimmy.
It's theme is the adventure. I don't know about the author's style. Survival is the second book of Island (it has three books), I read Shipwreck (the first one) last week. I wonder what is going to happen in the third book. It makes you feel so curious about the next book. So far I'm on pg.70 and I think it is great. Like it's title, it's the survival made from the 6 kids from the shipwreck. Fortunately they get to the island and after 2 days, they finally get to meet each other but they also fi...more
This second book in the Island trilogy is a speedy adventure read that would appeal to even the most reluctant tween readers. The castaways (aged eleven to fourteen) are determined to survive, are... (click for full review http://www.storysnoops.com/detail.php...)

Read by Holter Graham, book 2 of Gordon Korman's Island trilogy was even better. 6 shipwrecked kids on a remote Pacific Island must survive one kid's amnesia, a wild boar, and eluding a gang of poachers using that island as a place to do their highly illegal business. At the end of this audiotape, 1 kid finds the 3rd atom bomb that was intended for Japan during WW2.

Korman wrote his first book, "This Can't be Happening at Macdonald Hall", when he was 12 years old, for a coach who suddenly found himself teaching 7th grade English. He later took that episode and created a book out of it, as well, in "The Sixth Grade Nickname Game", wherein Mr. Huge was based on that 7th grade teacher.
