Joley is the sister with magic in her voice and she combined that voice with her love for music into a career as the lead singer for a rock band. But the more successful the band became, the more problems emerged and now she's under threat from several different directions. Into that storm steps the man who can either be her dream come true or her worst nightmare.

Ilya lives a half-life, going through the motions and doing whatever is necessary to stay alive. Then he hears HER voice and it's like the sun burning away the shadows on his soul. He wants her and he'll have her, but the more time they spend together, the worse the aching hunger gets.

I want to BE Joley...with Ilya. That man puts the X in sex, and with a foreign accent to boot!! Although many reviewers gripe about the unrealistic scenarios Christine Feehan uses, I have enjoyed every book in this series. Of course, I read books for entertainment, not reality...books are my escape FROM reality. Maybe that's why I enjoy her writing so much. Her characters have to learn to trust each other and work together, and I like that. They may be very attracted to each other, but they don't jump into bed unless and until it means more than just a casual horizontal tango. I like that. The women are strong (altho Joley can be a mite too argumentative at times), and I like that. The men may be brooding Alphas, but they'll do whatever is needed to protect and make their woman happy...and I love that.

I do think this book has more heft to it than the last couple in this particular series, both length- and plot-wise. The answers aren't necessarily easy or quick and the mystery is cagier. I didn't pick out all the bad guys right away and there were times I even wondered about Ilya. So if you've stayed away from this series because of other reviews, you may just want to give this book a try. I know I'm on pins and needles since I already know who the lead characters for the next book will be and I've been waiting for their story for a couple of years now. Joley Drake has the gift of voice. She can compel people to feel and act a certain way, just by speaking or singing. She has made a very successful career for herself as a professional singer. Joley and her band have legions of fans that follow them everywhere and see all of their shows. In fact, they can’t escape the celebrity that has become their lives. In the midst of all this fame and fortune, Joley feels very lonely. She wants a home and a family, like her sisters have, but its so hard for her to trust anyone…

Ilya Prakenskii has been in love with Joley ever since he heard her voice for the first time. He was in such a dark place, void of all hope, until he hears her sing. Everything in him changes and he knows he has something to live for. Ilya works as a bodyguard for Nikitin- a very evil man who does a lot of very bad things, and when people start threatening Joley, Nikitin offers Ilya and his services to help protect her. There is an unmistakable attraction between Ilya and Joley that has been brewing for a long time. Can Joley learn to trust Ilya to protect her body as well as her heart?

This is such a hot romance right from the beginning. I felt the sexual tension between Ilya and Joley right from the start, and I was cheering for them throughout the book. Even though Ilya is an absolute Alpha Male, Joley doesn’t let him boss her around, and at the same time she isn’t so frustrating as to deny the feelings they have for one another for the entire book. I love the way Feehan is able to make me feel when I read her books. I get so engrossed in the characters that I just ache when things go wrong or I feel elated when something great happens. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone that loves a good spicy love story.

I feel like I waited forever for this book and man, it did not diappoint. I started out about half in love with Ilya and by the time the book was done, I am completely head over heals for this guy. He is simply awesome.

I can't tell you how much I really enjoyed this book. This book was a little like the Carpathian series, more so than the other Drake sisters. But there is nothing wrong with that.

I must admit that I loved the Ghostwalkers books much more than this one. I think it was because I am not enamored with fictional subjects about celebrity. The elements pertaining to Joley's world-wide stardom as a rock singer seemed to overshadow the narrative in this book. I wonder if Ms. Feehan has a favorite female singer who inspired her to write this story and to model Joley after. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is yes.

Another great Drake sister novel by Feehan, I had been looking forward to Joley and Ilya's story since they first met! (In Hannah and Jonas's book, I think). Their chemistry is awesome, Although it can be read alone, I would recommend reading the other books first, that way you have the full history of this great couple!

No spoilers but I LOVED the twist about Ilya's family and the resulting twist that has on he and Joley's future! :)

Turbulent Sea is the story of world famous musician Joley Drake, and secretive bodyguard Ilya Prakenskii. Joley is the sixth daughter of the enchanting Drake family. Joley is a charismatic performer, and shares a powerful magical inheritance with her six sisters. Joley is a spell-singer, able to compel anyone who hears her voice to feel or act anyway she wants.

We first met Ilya Parenskii in Oceans of Fire. He grew up with Abbey Drake's fiance Alexsandr Volstov in a group home in Russia. From a very early age, Ilya was brutally trained for a high-stakes life among criminals. As a bodyguard for notorious mobster Sergei Nikitin, he is detached, enigmatic, and hard as nails, but his love for Joley is destined to melt his heart of stone, and in so doing will force him to reveal dangerous secrets that will put not only his life in jeopardy, but also the lives of Joley and her family.

Turbulent Sea was in short, everything I hoped it would be! It was the best book in the series so far, full of action, romance and mystery. I loved the characters of Joley and Ilya. The chemistry between them was complex and satisfying -I really enjoyed reading about all the characters in Turbulent Sea - every character, from Joley's band mates and crew to the crazed fans, were dynamic and well-written. The other Drake sisters took a back seat in this book, allowing the action to keep speeding toward it's conclusion.

I can't wait for the next book to see what happens with Elle Drake and Jackson Deveau. As the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, Elle is destined to pass on all the Drake family's magical gifts to her seven daughters. I wonder how Jackson will handle the idea of being a father to seven magical little girls of his own!(less)

Yet another disappointment I am starting to wonder why I put myself through this. After the let down with the Hannah and Jonas story line it has gone even further down hill for me. I missed the other sisters; I think the interactions between them are part of why the first few worked for me. Yet again the Russian Mob thing is so overdone and I am guessing it will have a huge part in the last book as well. I was also disappointed in the lack of magic in this one. I was highly anticipating this book ever since we met Ilya Prakenskii in Oceans of Fire. It didn't live up to my expectations.

We didn't see enough of Ilya or get enough of his past to discover what made him the man he is. Instead, Christine spent too much time on a convoluted subplot that came from nowhere and didn't move the story along. Too much of the book was spent on Joley, her point of view and her dealing with her band and their problems. Instead, Christine spent too much time on a convoluted subplot that came from nowhere and didn't move the story along. Too much of the book was spent on Joley, her point of view and her dealing with her band and their problems. We were introduced to 5 characters we'd never met before and were given their pasts and problems, which Joley was supposed to fix.

The build up of Nikitin's character and what finally happens to him was a disappointment. It seemed Christine just threw out a gay relationship just to have one in the book.

Christine's dialogue scenes with the Drake sisters has always seemed forced in these books, and for once, we didn't have any scenes with all of them together. Elle wasn't even in this book, and neither was Jackson. What we did get was a lot of hypocritical, self-righteous judgments from Sarah to Joley about her feelings for Ilya. I found all the sisters' attitude toward Ilya even more hypocritical, considering he'd saved Hannah in Safe Harbor. Aleksandr and Jonas had their suspicions about who Ilya was, but didn't come to his defense. Joley finally did at the end of the book. The sisters' apology to him seemed disengenous, at best. It was as if it had to be put there to get it out of the way.

What I did enjoy about this book was the revelation that Ilya is the seventh son of a seventh son! Which means that Joley will be giving Ilya...seven sons. I can just imagine what the family reunions will be like! The tension between Ilya and Joley were great. If only Christine would have concentrated more on their relationship and how it progressed more, instead of throwing in two subplots about a kidnapped teen, a crew member who was actually from a faction of a mob family trying to earn his uncle's approval and a murder that came out of nowhere.

One final note--this was the third book in which a Drake Sister hid her true feelings from her sisters. I'm not sure why Christine is doing this, since from the outset, it was clear, that the sisters told each other everything and knew that could because none of them would judge the other. It started with Oceans of Fire and continued in Safe Harbor and Turbulent Sea. I'm hoping that this won't be the case in Elle and Jackson's story.(less)

Of course, someone is also trying to destroy her which brings us to her love interest, Illya Prakenskii who was introduced back in Oceans of Fire. He has a reputation of a Russian hitman and works for a notorious mobster. He is very mysterious as we found out in Oceans of Fire that he has his own "magic" and has a strange connection to the Drakes. However, his job and reputation means that Joley and her family aren't happy at his interest in Joley. As things get worse on the tour, Illya must protect Joley despite her misgivings about who he is and the threat he represents to her.

I'll be honest, I have been looking forward to this book since the character, Illya, was introduced. This character is probably the closest to Ms. Feehan's popular Carpathian series as Illya is very alpha male. I was interested in the character as he is such the opposite of all the previous heroes in the fact that the "magic" wasn't a surprise and let the sister's protect him. Instead, he was more of an equal to them. Plus, I liked the whole danger aspect of what he is and what he does. Very cool and mysterious. I wish Feehan had went more in that direction as the tour itself lost my interest.

Illya is interesting and I hate to say it, but I wasn't really as interested in the Drake sisters or Joley herself as him. I think it is because the series has progressed to the point where it is all getting predictable on what is going to happen with the plot and I knew most of what Joley was going to do and say before she did (except during one great love scene where she turned into a twit midway in a very ackward moment...geez) as well as her sisters. I was more interested in the mobster sub-plot than the great danger to Joley. While I liked the story okay, it wasn't the best work I have seen from Feehan. Too many similarities to her other books. However, it was a vast improvement over Hannah and Jonas' story which changed their personalities and backstory from the way she first established it. To be totally honest, I think that I am either "outgrowing" Feehan's books or they are just becoming so similar that the weakness in the books are showing up more frequently or obviously. I still read her books, but they aren't on the automatic, must buy now list. And I hate to admit it, but the whole set up for Elle's story hasn't really caught my interest. I plan on reading it more just to finish out the series as it is the last book. But the fact that Elle is rumored to be working in either the spy biz or just kicking criminal butt just seems to far out there compared with the way the stories were set up, that I am having problems with it. Of course, no one knows what she does really. Whatever...

Fans of her Drake sisters series will probably like this book (especially compared to the problems with Hannah's story in the previous book) best. Her Carpathian fans will really like this one. (less)

This is my favorite of the Drake sisters books and one that could be read without having to read the others in the series.

Joley is not only a rock star, but has magic and is one of the 7 magical Drake sisters.
Ilya works for the Russian mob. He is dark, mysterious, sexy and has magic to rival Joley's.

When someone tries to kill Joley during her tour, Ilya is sent to protect her. But he wants her for himself and is willing to do anything to have her.

I feel like Christine Feehan is hyped all over goodreads. Her plot was creative but her writing was plodding. Her exciting plot line was dragged down by Feehan's refusal to just let characters show what they are thinking.

For example (pg. 193 - picked at random):
Brian returned within a few minutes, his steps heavy, his shoulders slumped. He looked as if the weight of the world was on him.

Either sentence would have been enough. But don't worry, Feehan goes on:

So I was kinda bummed with story. All of the other Drake sisters books involved the other characters throughout the story. And this one they were only in it briefly and toward the end. Its still a pretty good story. It just didn't have the same vibe as the others for me.

I haven't read any of the other books in the series-- some of the 'newer' supernatural-themed romance novels have come across, as a genre, as a little more hokey than I'm interested in reading-- but this was a bit more subtle, and I didn't mind the supernatural themes. There were points at which I found myself saying, "Aroo?" or "WTF?" but generally speaking, I enjoyed the story and how the characters played out. I started this book twice before, but the first chapter turned me off and i put it aside for something else. This was strange, because I loved the earlier books in the series, although I was disappointed in Hannah's story. This time I decided there had to be more, so I read past that first chapter, and I'm happy to say that there was more to like than dislike. In fact, there was a lot to like about Ilya, and I absolutely loved the twist about his heritage!

Christine Feehan always writes a little differently. She tends to over analyze and over write the characters problems. Sometimes her writing style gets in the way of the actual story and ends up making the characters look really shallow or whiny. Case in Point: Safe Harbor was the story of Hannah and Jonas. This is the book that a lot of people that read this series have been waiting for. Joley Drake, the bad girl. Well you learn that she's not so bad afterall. This isn't a stand alone book. You probably do need to read the beginning part of the series in order to get all the relationships and why people are acting like they are. Incredible and damn near unputdownable!

Oh, did I really enjoy this one. Full of fire and ice, temptation and inner battles.

I’d always liked Joley, right from the start. Regardless of her lifestyle, I knew she wasn’t like her sisters, that there was something different about her. The other day I had the pleasure of finishing “Turbulent Sea” by Christine Feehan. It’s one of her Drake Sisters novels. I own three of them - “Oceans Afire”, “Dangerous Tides”, and “Turbulent Sea.” I’ve read 2 of them. I read “Oceans Afire” a couple years ago. I bought “Dangerous Tides” and promptly lost it among all the books I own.
