If there is a funnier play about terrorism and the failures of familial bonds it has yet to be written. This one features two assassinated cats, one tortured drug-dealer, three murdered terrorists, and one other facing execution for forming a splinter group from a splinter group, and two hapless fools, one the father of the title character and the other the brother of a cow-blinding would-be terrorist. At one point near the end, the stage is splattered with blood and body parts and it works as a...more

Oh, Macdonagh is one fucked-up dude. He wrote these plays in the space of a month or something - that's one brilliant sick mind.In general, the horrific and cruel structure he employs is a wonderful twist on the Irish-families-are-fucked-up sub-genre of the family-members-driving-each-other-crazy(and generally drinking too much) genre. Geez those eye-shooters and mam-tramplers know how to get down.

A play for all seasons with a clear plot, linear structure, not-a-word-wasted dialog, limpid characterization worthy of my sympathy despite their tragic, sometimes violent paths. Things matter, people struggle, there is no return. Not just a great read but a primer for writers who swoon for great dialog.

Best play I've read in 2007. Definitely one of the best plays I've EVER read. Really great. I thought The Pillowman was his best play when I read it, but this one's better! It's both really funny and really really dark at the same time. Highly recommended.

Easily the funniest, sharpest, play I've read/was lucky enough to see. I don't think it's still out there, but if it is, go see it. If you are a devoted cat lover, don't see it. McDonagh is a deeply hilarious and fucked up human being.

Dismembered bodies, cat executions, shots to the head from close range--the feck do you stage this? I'll find out Saturday in H-Town. Rereading this in preparation. Can't f'n wait to see how they pull this off.

One of the best plays I have ever read. So freaking funny, and sad, and over the top. How often do you gasp and laugh out loud when you're reading?

Hilarious and disgusting. It's like a long Monty Python skit as written by a deranged psychopath.

I saw the play and subsequently skimmed the script. Both appealed to my dark sense of humor.

Funniest play I've ever seen on stage. A laugh out loud read too.
