Chicago PD Lieutenant Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels is going through a good period in her life. She’s engaged to Latham, a guy she’s crazy about, is living with her mom in a house outside the city, and has just received word her archenemy Alex Kork is dead. Jack and her partner Herb Benedict are called to the scene of a murder, where a sex offender has been killed by a sniper. But the sniper isn’t finished and keeps taking potshots at Jack and the police officers investigating the crime scene. Jack More...

If you're in the mood for a fast paced, high-intensity, hair-raising twists and turns, no time to catch your breath, the ultimate convergence of everything that could possibly go wrong... all in one night... you'd easily give this book 5 stars. I love Konrath's "Jack Daniels" series, but my mushy brain today had a hard time keeping up with her high-speed, "better think fast on your feet or you're dead, times ten" storyline.

Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels is a More...

Continuing saga of Lt. Jack Daniels on-going battle with the Kork family of Psychopaths, this one specifically with the recently escaped from prison, Alexandra (Alex). Through in a trio of would be military want-to-be sniper vigilantes and you have an idea of what Jack is going against only it is worse than times past. Now, Alex has spent the last few years in prison pumping iron and is really strong in addition to her third level black belt martial arts training. After Jack deals with the sn More...

I'm not quite sure what to make of this story. In some ways it's a 4 star book, but others dropped to a 2, so I'm settling on 3. Up until now, Jack Daniels has been a fairly serious cop. Oh, there's some humor, but overall it's been a serious story. Konrath pulled out the stops on this one, though. Serious turned into seriously slapstick, almost "Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein". It wasn't badly done, although not what I expected.

Another change was structure. Ther More...

I already have the next book, so I know who dies in the cliff-hanger of this one. But I put that later in spoiler tag.

In the fifth book, the action is raised by several levels. The whole event happens within 8-hours, where Jack and her loved ones, including her Mom, her fiancé (Latham), her partner (Herb), her nemesis (Harry), and her friend (Phin) are fighting two enemies at the same time. One, is the psycopath killer Alex Kork who escapes from prison and on a deadly revenge plan, More...

J. A. Konrath is back again with Police Detective, Jacqueline Daniels. The Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels mysteries build on each other and have improved with each new book.

"Fuzzy Navel" is the fifth and best mystery in the series. Joe brings back many of the favorite characters frokm prior books and adds a few new ones that turn out to be nasty, mean, and inept.

"Jack" is being pursued by her old nemesis, "Kork", who has vowed to kill More...

Boo and hiss...copycat thriller, January 17, 2010
Nothing like a copycat -- due to my disinclination to spoil this horrific novel for anyone who chooses to read it, I can't say which author nor what title -- I can say, however, that if you don't like cliffhanger endings, either have the next book, Cherry Bomb (Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Mysteries), ready to open or skip this one altogether.

That said, I am also trying to find the advertised "hilarious" More...

This is the first Jack Daniels book I've read. I didn't know anything about the series other than it was about a female cop. I started reading in the early afternoon, then didn't put the book down until I finished it that night. I really enjoyed it. The back cover description doesn't give too much away, so when the first plot twist hits about 33 pages in, I was surprised and excited. That excitement lasted throughout the entire book.

One of the issues that I had with the book was More...

Alex is back! Denied the pleasure of torturing Jack by a bunch of amateurs, she manages to kill who(?), knowing Jack won't give up looking for her. These people don't just lie down and die.
</u>Extract</u>:
"Let me clue you in on something, Lieutenant. Nothing is black and white. There are no universal standards that determine what's good and what's evil. It's subjective. You can't kill for money, or recreation, but you can kill during a war. Why is there a difference?

I originally put this on my 'mystery' shelf but I think it deserves to be called more of a 'thriller'. The story was non stop action from start to finish.
I'm really stuck on whether to give it a 3 or a four. I DID like it, a lot, but it also had 2 components which are pet peeves for me. One; the cliffhanger endging. Two; such intense bad luck and endless disasters that it becomes a bit unbelievable.
However, I must say the book engaged me from start to finish and it was perfect for More...

Having read the last four books in this series, I find myself completely addicted to this author and to Jack Daniels and her entourage. I thought the premise of handling the story line over the course of a day was an interesting way to give us more information about the characters. There never was a dull moment and the action scenes kept coming and coming.

As with all of the books by the author, the writing and editing were superb. My biggest complaint about this book was that the en More...

Starting out as a traditional Jack Daniels novel, this addition to the series, soon moves into the absurd and the unbelievable. Yes, most of this series has elements of the absurd and the unbelievable in them but that is usually countered with tight scripts, realistic characters and somewhat plausible plot lines. However, this title sharply veers from the format of prior novels.

The epic, and unbelievable, gun battles, the super human heroics of, not only, Jack but of Alex and the a More...

I've always enjoyed quick fun mysteries but maybe they're getting old for me - or maybe I just wasn't in the mood yesterday. I've read the "Jack" Daniels mysteries before and they've been entertaining but this one just didn't do it for me. It was like a constant barrage of go, go, go to get the end which was a cliffhanger style bit. The character development was minimal - although to be fair - these types of novels don't dwell on that stuff in depth, but you know, I'd like to know more More...

By far, the best book I ever read that was written by me.

And you should see the book trailer. It cost $37,995, which was more than I paid for college (I went to an art school.)

Another fun installment in the Jack Daniels series.

I really liked this one. The shifting POV technique is better than ever. So many characters to follow in this one… it’s delicious.

Highlights:
Herb is predictably hilarious. McGlade becomes much more likable (which still isn’t saying much.) Phin gets some truly awesome action scenes and some rather interesting character development. He is still my favorite character in this series.

My first - and it was a good one! Love the humor, though there are dark moments and plenty of violence to suit most any taste. There does seem to be a particularly order to them, so if you want to start at the beginning, you'll need to start with the first one - "Whiskey Sour". This one is a feast for the funny bone, with enough action to keep you turning the pages, but I'm saying nothing about plots or casts of characters or what happens to said cast of characters. You'll just hav More...

Somehow I got ahead of myself and read #5 before I read #4 (Dirty Martini) Hmmmmm....must have been asleep when I did that. :) Oh well, still was a super book. Quite different from the others in this series but still a rocket fast read. I started it last night, read a couple of hours and then finished it up this morning in between work breaks. Hated the way it ended because now I am torn between reading #4 or going ahead and reading #6 because I CANNOT wait to see how it turns out. I abso More...

Never a slacker where action is concerned, Konrath sets a blistering pace and pushes the series to new extremes. Bite-sized chapters keep you munching into the wee hours as once again Jack Daniels finds herself getting variously shot, stabbed, bitten, and clobbered. Only a writer like Konrath can make the laugh meter nudge the red as the body count rises. But wait, there's more--the novel has one of the most unique endings in fiction. Be sure to check out Konrath's website (www.jakonrath.com) fo More...

I don't typically read thrillers, but I bought this one because J.A. Konrath's blog has been very helpful to me. This was a page-turner and a half. I am troubled by psychopaths-as-entertainment, but I have to admit I couldn't stop reading. I also laughed out loud a few times. I found some parts in the middle a bit over the top (our heroine Jack is almost as unstoppable as the Terminator). But I kept wanting to know what was going to happen and I want to know what happens in the next book an More...

I don’t think I like the direction Konrath’s books have taken. Instead of a crisp plot line that keeps you on the edge of your seat, Konrath indulges in about 250 pages worth of “I hate you you ruined my life I’m going to kill you horribly but first I’m going to make you suffer” “No you’re not I’m going to escape and kill you grrrr ouch you hit me I can’t fight anymore” “Ha ha now I’m going to hurt someone you love” “You are? Grrr I’m going to escape and kill you.” No plot, and so much blood More...

This was a little different than the usual Jack Daniels book. This had a lot more action in it. We meet some new players as well as some old players and have to endure a cliff hanger style ending. I still get aggravated when authors make mistakes with weapons and medicine. A .22 LR does not make a lot of noise, it doesn't pack much of a punch and shooting a rifle without a scope or iron sights would make it near impossible to hit anything over 15 to 20 feet (much less a center mass shot). I didn't finish this, it was terrible. Every bad guy with in a thousand miles converges at the heroine's home intending to do her in. Caught in the cross fire is a fat pervert chained to the fridge, a wimpy boyfriend tied to a chair, and her elderly mother. I've always felt that mothers and the elderly deserve some amount of respect, but not this poor gal, she's constantly shot up, tortured, and still has to keep up her corny lines. I really wanted to like this series but I will discourage any More...

This is the fifth book in Konrath's Jack Daniels series. I loved the first four. This one, however, was a huge disappointment for me. Halfway through, I gave up and skipped ahead to the last few pages just to see how it ended. It didn't, really.

Lots of "action", that was more gratuitous violence than anything else. Most of it made no sense. Lots of shooting. I mean lots! Houses being ripped apart by high-powered bullets. Yet the people inside are discussing birthmarks and J More...

This one for me is by far the best in the series. But I did have some issues with it, the biggest one was the revolving point of view. It seemed like it was switching between Jack, her mother, bad guy #1, bad guy #2, bad guy #3, and Tom, Dick, and Harry.......

Jack's life is such a mess in this book. I think she really needs to step back and take a look at her life. You know you are in big trouble when while you are being held by a psycho you are happy that another psycho comes ar More...

Revenge is the dominating factor in Fuzzy Navel. A man’s wife is attacked and he is prompted to form a vigilante group to seek revenge. Before the group known as The Urban Hunting Club is finished several rapists are dead as well as a number of police officers. The Urban Hunting Club is also determined to include Jack Daniels in their list of victims.

Jack’s mother, formerly a police officer now retired, is suffering from arthritis. Jack has moved with her mother and their cat to More...

Don't let the gimmicky name fool you (this is the fifth in the series that uses the names of cocktails as euphemisms for murder and mayhem and oh, yes, the main character just happens to be named Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels.) Once again Mr. Konrath has given his readers a slam bang shot of suspense with this latest offering being the best one yet! Told over the period of 12 hours (very 24 ;-) and from various character's points of view, this thrill ride does not skip a beat!

Fuzzy Navel starts with action and never lets up. Terms like "tension" and "suspense" just aren't strong enough to capture the insane, non-stop action feel of this book. In the first chapter the reader sees a threat (which will wear a familiar face for regular readers) return to Jack's life. But while a psychopath holds her mother and fiance hostage in their home Jack's on a case, facing down a series of sniper shootings and at least one killer who isn't done after shooting h More...

Git on wit yo bad self, J.A. Konrath! Those who loved the previous books in the Jack Daniels series won't be disappointed with FUZZY NAVEL. From the first sniper's shot, this book is slam bam in your face.

Jack Daniel's day has been pretty bad, but no one can imagine what's still in store for the detective when she heads home to check on her mom in the burbs. But when she gets there and finds that everyone is all tied up-literally, she isn't quite ready to give up. Not yet, anyway. Ja More...
