I love Deadpool. Back when I was buying five or six comics a week (this was the late 90s, mind, so most of those were X books) Deadpool was the one that I was always most excited for. It was also the last one that I dropped when I got fed up with all the crap. I still have a special fondness for him. So it gives me some pain to rate this collection at only three stars.

This was my first real comic about Deadpool, and I must say that it was really fun to read. Of course, I was kind of confused with some of the bits, for instead, there were a lot of references to other comics (luckily enough, they were kindly enough to give the name and number for what issue it was, and so on)
and since actually, this is also my first Marvel comic, I didn't know half the characters, who appeared.

I am not a big Deadpool fan. I generally find him to be a one joke character, and I don't really understand Marvel's obsession with him. My brother has loaned me the first three volumes of Deadpool Classic, though, so I am trying to read them with an open mind. And I still don't really get it. This first volume has the character's first appearance (in which he is 90s cool and doesn't crack any jokes), then his first limited series, which is more about generic 90s mercenary action, then a second ...more
The issues collected here introduce Deadpool as a side character, and then in his first short solo runs. None of these comics are particularly interesting until the last issue, which is the first issue of the actually "Classic" Joe Kelly run (Deadpool Vol. 3). So you need this TPB to get started on the good storyline (and no one else has ever written the character of Deadpool this well), but to get there you have to endure other, mediocre comics, or live with paying for a book that y...more
I do love me some Deadpool, but unfortunately in this volume he (and his title) are still evolving into the great stuff they will eventually become. I'm looking forward to checking out the second volume.
Still, this isn't bad, and there's some nice bits. And only one story out of the bunch is drawn by Rob Liefeld.

This first trade in the classic Deadpool series is a mixed bag.
You get a lot of "firsts" here: first appearance, first limited series, first Weasel interaction, first Siryn interaction (and why Wade falls for her in the first place), and the first issue of Deadpool's first ongoing. If you're late to the Deadpool circus, try to track those comics down now and you'll be spending a pretty penny (especially for the New Mutants issue).
I guess the negative for me...more

The Nicieza comics are terrible--the jokes are lame and the drama falls flat--I remember liking his writing better than this back in the day, so perhaps he was off his game on these. The second collected mini-series by Mark Waid is at least decent, if not great. The final comic here, the first issue of the regular series by Joe Kelly, shows real potential.
I read this because I never checked out the two minis by Nicieza and Waid ... Nicieza's was okay, and Waid's was pretty lame. However, in both, I think this is the way that Wade should be characterized ... not the nut that he is today.
This has got to be the worst comic I've read in ages. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Cable & Deadpool.
This however, was lame. It felt shaky, I simply couldn't get into the story and overall was disappointing. I was looking forward to it...

man comic books are cool
So far so good...
Oh SOOOOO GOOD! This was also my first Deadpool book and I LOVED IT!! He's my favorite Marvel character and I can't wait to get the rest of the series. I just don't understand how bad the newer comics are. Deadpool should've stayed this way the whole time. But I loved it and now I can't get enough Deadpool!
A tad uneven, but turned out enjoyable in the end
Deadpool is one of the funniest antiheros ever! Sarcastic humor of the most acidic type! I'm not really into comics, but i'm will read these series to the end!
