Fantastic read, great premise, gripping emotional story...
This is the 15th novel in the Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) suspense/mystery/crime thriller series about NYC Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Supporting our leading lady is a cast of characters we have come to enjoy, including her billionaire husband Roarke; her aide (Ms.) Peabody; a young policeman named Trueheart (honest!); and electronic/computer cop specialists McNab and Feeney. Oh my gosh, this was pretty amazing. I can’t believe J. D. Robb still has fresh material, after 15 books she’s still got it! Eve is back to stand up for crime. Although this time is she standing up for the wrong guys? A terrorist type group is killing off people who are truly evil but does that give them the right to choose who gets to live or die? This is the dilemma that Eve is faced with when some people agree with the group. I love this series so much and this one reminds me so much of one o...more
Although this is the 15th book in J.D. Robb's In Death series, it is the first one I have read. I was impressed with the story's ability to stand alone in a series. This book maintained that perfect balance required to make a new reader not feel lost in the story, and an existing reader not feel bored by repeat information. I am looking forward to learning more about the character's and their adventures in both past and future books in this series.

I thought after a few of these books they would somehow become so formalistic that I would not turn to them to read when I needed something gritty and different. But here is number 15 and I'm still finding new twists and somehow the author keeps it fresh enough that I'll be looking forward to #16. Perhaps part of the charm is that there is such a short period of time that elapses between the action of one book and the next there is a feeling of continuity that doesn't always occur in long series...more
This was one of my favorite books in this series. I've been trying to read them in order from the beginning of the series. This series has had 2 books per year for the last 17 years.
Totally believable story. Great interaction between the characters. Wonderful lines. It all added up to a wonderful read.
Unbeknownst to them a computer virus is being sent people the Purity group has designated as " undesirable" people. These people get a terrible headache, nose bleeds, and soon die.

#15 in the Eve Dallas series. In the New York City of 2059, Homicide Lt. Eve Dallas catchs a series of cases where the victim seems to have been driven mad by their computer. This entry is a showpiece for her husband Roark, who in addition to being one of the richest men in the world is also a computer genius. He is able to defeat the shielding of the computer virus causing the deaths and then to decode the virus, he is able to easily defeat the seals on the files of under age crime victims, and...more
Another great installment in the In Death series. This one focused much more on the crime than on Eve or her story and evolution but still a great read.
Someone has decidede to clean up the filth in New York - by "executing" criminals the law can't convict. Using a computer virus that makes the victim go crazy and self-terminate, the "Absolute Purity" group paints itself as the protector of "good" citizens.

Book Review: 2 Treasure Boxes
A computer program written by a group of terrorist vigilantes is killing people. They have decided to rid the world of the dregs of society, people who are preying on children. This program causes these evil miscreants to go crazy and die. The only problem is they are taking innocent people down with them. Although these people deserve to die, Eve is still determined to find the killers and stop them.

Purity in Death by J. D. Robb
As you can see, I am a bit behind in this series. I like it, but I thought this was an uneven entry and it was not my favorite. There was a lot of development on the side of the people involved in Eve and Roarke’s life as we see the return of Baxter, Webster, Trueheart and Jamie Lindstrom and the continued events of Peabody, McNab, and Mavis. There is also some discussion of Eve and where she is going in the department.

Louie Cogburn, a small time criminal, has been suffering from an increasingly bad headache. His neighbour knocks on the door to tell him to turn down his music and Louie answers with a baseball bat swinging. The first policeman at the scene, Trueheart tries to stun Louie and ends up killing him. The message on Cogburn's computer reads "Absolute Purity Achieved".

One of the best so far in the 'In Death' series.
Fast paced, action packed and full of drama. Eve's instinct and courage bring down yet another killer. Or should I say killers? A vigilante group are out there killing New York's scum. And a lot of people feel they are right. How long before they move onto other people who deserve a second chance to correct their sins. They've made themselves Judge, Jury and Executioner. Eve's moral code is put under serious scrutiny by herself. Is the life of a p...more

A desperate call from Officer Trueheart brings Lieutenant Eve Dallas to the site of an officer involved death amidst the summer heat in 2059. As Eve analyzes the scene, the pieces just don't fit. While Eve tries to gather facts and help Trueheart, the EDD detective examining the dead chemie-dealer's unit suddenly goes on a violent rampage. Soon Eve's team realizes they are fighting a computer virus capable of creating organic damage to a user's brains. Responsibility is claimed by the Purity See...more
Eve is back with her all-star cast of characters and in great form. I particularly like the premise of this book. What would happen if citizens got disgruntled with the judicial system and its failures and joined together to go after those who slip through the system? Lots of questions are raised with arguments on both sides. Eve and Roarke almost find themselves on opposite sides on this one until they clarify their thoughts - a good example of how important communication is, especially in a ma...more
Lt. Eve Dallas is dreading going to a fancy dinner with her fantabulously wealthy husband Roarke and some of his business associates when she is called to a grisly crime scene. A low level drug dealer took a baseball bat to his neighbours when they tried to make him turn his music down, and while the cop on the scene only tried to stun him, the assailant fell down dead. On his computer screen the cops on the scene find the message: "Absolute purity achieved."

Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows a thing or two about prey who are capable of murder. There's a distinct difference, though, between self-defense and revenge. In this case, a terrorist group dedicated to exterminating child predators strikes in New York during a suffocating and sweltering hot summer; the prey turn into predators when they develop a computer virus that transforms into a human virus that causes some lowlife to self-destruct, in violent and bloody ways.

Purity in Death is the 15th book in the Death Series. The protagonist in the series is Detective Eve Dallas. Eve is a tough cop and is married to the sexy, charming Roarke. When Louie Cogburn, a low life drug dealer goes crazy and begins beating up one of his neighbors with a baseball bat, attempts to kill a police officer and ends up dead himself, Detective Dallas is called to the scene. I can't believe how much I've gotten into this series! I've listened to them on CD or tape - whatever is available from the library - and the ones that I can't get, I read. Lt. Eve Dallas is just too much fun.
I'm now up to about book #15 in the series - great to listen to if you are a fan of audiobooks. Start from the beginning! She is a prolific writer and keeps churning out several a year. I've got a long ways to go to keep up with the latest book.

Lt. Eve Dallas finds herself up against a group of terrorist-vigilantes attacking those they feel have escaped justice using a computer virus that fatally jumps to people. A horrible death awaits those infected, and Eve must risk Roarke, Feeney, McNab, and many others close to her as she tries to prevent the terrorists from taking over - a fight that means she has to deal with political and media issues as well.

Another great entry in the series. Purity in Death deals with a computer virus that infects people causing them to become angry and violent. What we learn along the way is a terrorist group named Purity is targeting people who the law has let slip by (drug dealers, child molesters, etc.). But really who decides who lives and who dies? How can this group be allowed to mete out punishments? Doesn't it make them as bad as the people they are killing, especially considering innocent people get caugh...more

The not too distant future is the setting for Lt. Eve Dallas and her adventures. The entire series I have read so far is focused on homicide and the mystery that surrounds each murder. I don't believe there is a bad book in this series. They are all extremely well thought out and everytime I pick one up I can't put it down. The characters are continually developing but Robb/Roberts always stays 'true to character'.. . .and after 15 books, I think that is very impressive. I think another In Death book was just released making this series at 30 some books to date. I love the fact I can read other authors/books and then come back and find out what Eve Dallas is up to with an In D...more

Purity in Death finds our heroine on an assignment that leaves her even more tormented by the past. Another wonderful installment in the Eve and Roarke series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). It's been a little while between reads, but I always feel like I'm catching up with old friends when I come back to this series. I'm still working my way through it for the first time, trying to catch up, yet not trying that hard because then I'll have to wait until a new book releases.
