Why is this not better known? It's one of the best western manga I have ever read.
Lucy Snow is your average 9 1/2 year old girl. She's just arrived into Nullsville, and is supposed to attend her new school. However, she gets lost, and accidentally finds a place named Hollow Fields-a massive, decaying old school in the deepest part of the forest. Once there, she is mistaken for a new student, and since the inside is a lot comfier and cozier than she expects, she signs a contract and decides to st...more

Hollowfields is such a cute story with so much action that it should please most readers. This is my 14 year old son's favorite story so far.
Nine year old Lucy Snow is going to boarding school for the first time in the middle of the year. She gets lost and finds herself at a school. It's been raining and she is so hungry that she signs the school's contract just to stay inside. It doesn't take long for her to discover she has just joined a school for future mad scientists.

This was an entertaining little volume. Lucy Snow, a nine-year old girl ends up, by pure accident, in a school that trains mad scientists. That right there is a great premise. And she soon finds that if she does not keep up her grades every week, she will be sent to detention. And no kid has ever come back from detention. The art in this manga is pretty good, and there is a strong steampunk element that fans of that subgenre will enjoy. Also, this is a manga for all ages. I enjoyed it for the st...more
Poor little Lucy Snow she did three things you should never do and she did them all on the same day. Her first mistake was to talk to a complete stranger (a creepy stranger in a hooded cloak), her second mistake was to go off into a dark forest all on her own (the girl is 9) and the third thing she did wrong was sign a contract without even reading it. Now she may not have accidentally sold her soul to the devil but it doesn't mean her life is in any less danger because Lucy now attends Hollow F...more
Overall Rating: B+
Synopsis: The series, by Madeleine Rosca, follows Lucy Snow, a 9 year-old (sorry, 9 and a half year old) girl. Volume 1 starts as she heads out to her boarding school. However, she's running late, and, of course, decides to take the shortcut through the foreboding woods. There she finds a strange castle, and meets Miss Notch, a guard/maid who is...we'll say strange. It turns out that the castle is actually Miss Weaver's Academy for the Scientifically Gifted and Ethically Unfett...more

Very creepy concept that makes me want to read the next volumes. Storytelling is annoyingly expository, though -- Lucy is always telling herself what she's doing or how she feels, and other characters are always telling each other how things work at the school (even when the listener(s) should already know).
This was a neat book. The artwork and the villains are what really make this book.
The atmousphere gives off a steampunk feel, if not a jumbled one, what with the artwork set up that way.
My favorite character in this book is, without a doubt, the headmistriss. Her deliscously villiness aura, makes for a sweet taste to the darkness of our minds.

Lucy Snow was enrolled into Miss. Weaver's Academy for Mad Scientist, not knowing that sje signed a contract with the school. In my point of view when I was reading this book, Lucy signed the contract for theprivate room, she has her own room and own bathroom. When, she met Simon he was taken to detention right afterwards. Simon told Lucy that whoever goes to the detention never comes back, Lucy made an attempt to escape but failed luckily, she wasnt one the detention list adn passed the followi...more
