Range of Motion is a well written book that stands as a testament to the power of love and of female friendship. When Lainey’s husband is the victim of a freak accident that leaves him in a coma, she never wavers in her belief that he will recover. That belief, along with the constant support and devotion of her best friend Alice, carries her through this moving novel. My favorite part of the book was the lovely, stream-of-consciousness voice of her comatose husband. A must read for reader’s...more

This poignant story of a woman's struggle to deal with her husband trapped in a coma tugs at our hearts and causes the reader to examine how she or he would handle such a trauma. The characters are well drawn as Berg does so well, and the story moves along at a measured pace to draw in readers. For me, the last page of the book is worth the whole reading: it becomes Berg's paean (praise song) for life itself!

A truly lovely book. This one will have you laughing, crying and wondering at every page. A very real drama with some "soap opera" twists.

The main character's husband goes into a coma and is in one for quite some time. When everyone else gives up, she continues to hope. Life goes on and stops all at the same time.

An example of what everyone would hope they would do given such horrible circumstances.

Berg has a nice easy style, and this book provides an interesting slice of life. One woman waits for her husband--who was hit on the head with falling ice---to come out of a coma; a man waits for his wife to come out of a coma after a brain aneurysm, and a friend faces some marital discord. Nothing earth shattering, but interesting nonetheless.

This book is about a woman who is waiting on her husband to wake up from a coma. It is interesting because, although not many big events happen in the story (the husband is already in a coma at the beginning), a lot takes place with the main character. Also, you want to kepp reading to see what ahppens woth her husband.
This is a good story!

This is a touching story about how life can change in an instant. It's a fast read but make no mistake, this is not a shallow book. The medical details of a coma patient are spot on. Range of Motion is a type of exercise that physical therapists do to coma or stroke victims to keep their muscles intact. What a perfect title and metaphor.

I loved the way she drew you into both the wife and husband. I wanted to jump in there and cheer her on and tell her to keep trying. The only part of the book I regret is her best friend's husband and his behavior. It was a twist that was unfortunate and not necessary to the story.

This is probably my favorite book ever---The characters are so well developed and the story is flawless. I actually tried to get ahold of the publisher to see what I'd have to do to get the rights to adapt it into a play. I have it all cast in my head :)

This was such a comfortable book - it wasn't harried - you didn't have to hurry, but it was hard to put down. I became so associated with the characters - I wanted to help, wanted to be there.

Medically accurate, I was impressed at the caring of the nurse in this story. Turns out, Ms. Berg was an RN (like me). I can appreciate how for once, the nurse is seen as real and caring.

A fairly quick read with decent character development. The writing style flows easily and Elizabeth Berg has a way of drawing you in so you truly care about the characters.

This is my favorite novel by Elizabeth Berg. She writes with a lot of insight into the range of human emotions in a crisis. A quick, entertaining read, but also moving.

This was the first Elizabeth Berg book I ever read and I loved it. She writes in the first person, usually, and her books are generally character studies, very intimate.

This is a great book, but a very sad story. It does have a happy ending and made me cry. Elizabeth Berg is a fantastic author! Can't wait to read more of her books.

Boring. I never got into it. I wouldn't have even bothered finishing it except that I didn't have another book with me to read at the time.
