Recommends it for: writers
Jerome's year is broken down month-by-month, with each period covered chronologically, though not with strictly dated entries; digressions on his previous career working on magazines (sports, automotives), as well as contrasts with his previous time in rural New Hampshire (he's lived in western Massachusetts for several years) are included. Moreover, his wife is also a writer, so it's a sort of two-fer in that regard.
The author's lifestyle is so different from mine that I had trouble connecting
Andrew Shaffer
The most accurate, honest book about the day-to-day activities of a midlist writer that you'll ever read. If you're currently a freelance writer, you'll nod your head in agreement--even though the book is nearly 20 years old now, things haven't changed all that much in the writing trade (except for this whee little thing called the Internet...). I wouldn't recommend it for aspiring writers, however, as it's tedious and will, in the words of another reviewer, do more to dissuade you from writing...more
This book is incredibly tedious. It almost made me want to give up writing rather than pursue it.
