I love this title So. Much.

By way of full disclosure, I never actually made any of the recipes in this cookbook; the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich and other Southern (and mostly high-fat and/or high-sugar) recipes really aren't my thing. However, this book holds a place of honor in our family lore as The Best Whit

Because Elvis is absolutely someone you should be taking dietary advice from.

You can pretty much make this whole book with a vat of butter, a bag of flour, ten gallons of vegetable oil, a packet of bologna, and any combination of the limited produce items acceptable to a fussy American five year old's palate. It is so unhealthy, so straightforward, and it just makes me laugh every time I look at it. Given that this came out in 2004, there are some jarring bits in the limited text (Oriental Food?

I bought this as Nigella Lawson mentioned it in one of her programmes many years ago(I can't remember which though!),and really this is novelty purchase, as my family are vegetarians, and there is quite a lot of meat recipes, though the Sweet Potato Pie will be tried out. There is a recipe to make a replica of Elvis and Priscilla's wedding cake, which takes up the last half dozen pages in the book, which is really for historical interest only, unless you are a professional baker. Hardcore Elvis f ...more

The King ate like a commoner. Second, if your intention of reading a book is to find recipes that will be kind to your blood lipid profile, this one is not for you. Grease coupled with sugar, salt, and more grease. From biscuits and red-eye gravy to fried chicken and meatloaf, the author puts out Elvis' favorites. While I enjoy much of the same food, I, for other reasons, do not eat like this except for a few times a year. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the read and was entertained and amused by every ...more

I don't think I would try ANY of the recipes in this book but it was a fun read and will probably resonate even more with Elvis fans.

The book that introduced me to the joys of fried pickles, plus I'm pretty sure this is where I got my Cherry Coke barbecue sauce recipe so it gets an extra star just for that!
