WOW, every page really pops! The quilts are gorgeous and so many different styles are represented. There are landscapes, portraits, geometrics and plenty other creative pieces that make this book not just a great coffee table book to admire but also inspiring to quiltmakers. If you've ever doubted that quilting can be considered art and not just a craft form, Masters: Art Quilts will convince you. The pieces are...more

Towards the end of the Introduction, the author, Martha Sielman writes "The book's underlying concept of displaying up to a dozen quilts by each of the artists does limit the number of quilters included in the book, but it also allows the artists' work to be seen in much greater depth." I was much more impressed with this book than I thought I would be. What did it for me was that more than the "usual" cohort of American quilt artists were included, new emerging artists in the quilt world got to play with the big kids. As well as artists from all over the world, who make such different work than American quilters that it is almost unworkable to have both groups in the same book. But this book manages it.

Finally, an art-quilt book that is not based on the motto, "the weirder the better". So many beautiful works of art in here.
Amazing fiber artists.
A beautiful book with pages on 40 different art quilters. Short on verbiage, long on pictures of seminal quilts, just the way I like it. There is a good cross-section of quilters from Michael James and Yvonne Porcella to Joan Schulze Hollis Chatelain. Highly recommend.
Fantastic quilting eye candy.
