"The life journeys of humans are not random." - Elijah, in Walking with Elijah: The Fable of a Life Journey and a Fulfilled Soul by Doobie Shemer

Shamanism is one of those practices with which most people are unfamiliar. I was one of them before reading Walking with Elijah by Doobie Shemer.

Doobie Shemer is a corporate computer software engineer-turned-shaman after an Introduction to Shamanism workshop. What is shamanism, you ask?

A shaman makes spiritual journeys to gain insights to provide spirit

Walking with Elijah by Doobie Shemer was such an uplifting book. If one can find peace from reading a story, it is from this book. It fits right in to my beliefs. I also found a common thread of belief with what I have been taught about Indian rituals and their beliefs. It seems to me that the closer you are to nature, the closer to peace you will find yourself to be. There is an oneness that just cannot be explained.
I can only wonder how awesome it would be to be able to take these journeys. I

'Walking with Elijah' by Doobie Shemer is an amazing find! It is first of all a personal record of the author's spiritual life up till now; starting with his childhood days growing up in Givat Brener, the biggest kibbutz in Israel (how lucky is that to be surrounded by wild beautiful nature and calm nice people!) and as an adult, getting lost in the maelstrom of modern life and responsibilities, slowly losing touch with the essence, with life, with nature. Then by chance during his stay in the ...more

Walking with Elijah is about the profound Shamanistic journey experienced by Doobie Shemer. I enjoyed the descriptions of the discoveries of his power animal, the dolphin, and his other power animal, the white bear. The journeys with Hilla, his spiritual guide, were enlightening. As an artist, I am greatly influenced by word imagery, so I especially liked descriptions of the White World with its marble white gate. I loved the vision of giant white orchids and the roses with heart-shaped petals. ...more

I must confess I have been deeply moved when reading this book, both by what the author explains about his childhood and by his inspiring shamanic journeys. I acknowledge it has enlightened me with truths I had glimpsed elsewhere, from other sources, and which now prove themselves right. I dearly recommend others to read it, as it contains deep spiritual knowledge, not the New Era usual stuff, and gives an astonishing insight to what shamanism and helping others means and is. I do hope the ...more

I love learning about new things, so when the opportunity arose to read Walking with Elijah by Doobie Shemer, I was instantly intrigued by the subject matter. I had read a little about shamanism, but I still was unclear about what it actually was. By reading about Shemer’s life journey, this ancient practice has become clearer and even appealing.

Shemer is someone everyone can relate to – he is a family man living

Shamanism teaches focusing on our connection to nature and creation. This is the author’s account of his experiences on his shamanic journeys. Growing up in Kibbutz, an Israeli community, he describes the beauty of his surroundings, and viewed it as a gift. His descriptions made me wish I had lived there to experience it. Then moving to a desert area, he still could see the beauty while learning and growing. I could tell he has always had an uplifting and appreciative outlook to him. Even so, he ...more
