Finally the book focusing on Rock arrives! Rock Rodgers is the sexy dominant ripped from the Amber zone and granted the privilege to live in the Emerald zone. Except, Rock can do without this punishing assignment. The real reason for him assigned to the Emerald zone is complicated depending upon two different perspectives.

I've liked Rock since he first showed up in this series. My hope is that this book would really showcase his dominant skills. I'm mixed because whilst I really like Rock in th

This story was a 4.5 star read for me. I contemplated whether to round up or down, but it was a no brainer to round up. The one/two issues I had were minor. Well one not so minor (see below) and the other was a name quirk. So nothing that should detract from the rating of a brilliant story.

Being Emerald is the third book in the New Atlanta series and while you can read it as a stand-alone, in order to really understand Rock's character, what he's been through and why he is the man he's become, I highly recommend reading the other two first. Oh, how I've eagerly anticipated Rock's story! He's deliciously dominant and the teasers that we got of his kink in the first two books had me salivating for more. In Being Emerald, he's assigned to protect Laila, another Amber turned Emerald, ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I think it is my favorite of the series so far and I can't wait to read the next installment.

In this book we get Rocks story. I do believe that you need to read the others in the series and wish I had taken the time to review them prior to reading. With that being said the author did a great job of reminding the reader of the past events and this is a complete story within the series so it is not a cliffhanger but a continuation.

This book also holds a special meaning to me because the first book in this series is the first book I have ever won in a group give away. This is the 3rd book in a 4 book series. They can be read as a standalone but more suspense and understanding develops if you read the books in order.

This was a good story and addition to the New Atlanta series. I liked Laila and the story was interesting and kept me engaged. Rock wasn't my type of hero though.

Laila was born in the Amber district. When testing age came, she was found to have a high intellect and was changed to a Sapphire designation and then her work moved her up to Emerald. Unfortunately, this meant that she had to leave her mother and all her friends bac
Rock finally gets his story in Being Emerald. This one has been a long time coming and I downed it in one sitting. I fell in love with this touch sexy guy back in Being Amber. When he got 'promoted' to Emerald it damn near killed me especially after he had loss Emily! Rock isn't the only Amber raised now living the life of a Emerald. Laila is, too only she's been there longer and has to shut down her Amber thoughts and emotions. He's got six weeks to train her survival outside the city walls and ...more

Probably closer to 3-1/2 stars. Overall, this was another good addition to the series and moves the main story line (toppling the current governmental structure) forward a bit more. And while I was happy for Rock to find someone after having lost Emily in the first one, and I was happy that Laila was able to be more "Amber" with Rock (Ambers are much more touchy-feely than any of the other groups, and Laila had been Emeral

An action packed sexy read. Ex-cop Rock is desperate to escape New Atlanta but first he must train Laila survive on the outside. I admit I haven’t read the others in the series but I enjoyed this one so much I will. I had no issues keeping up with the story so it can be read as a standalone. The story held me captivated throughout and the chemistry between Rock and Laila is hot and the sex, steamy. Great Read!

I have been wondering about Rock since Being Amber when he lost the love of his life and then was sent to live in the Emerald Zone, we had glimpses of him in Being Sapphire but now we get to see Rock in all of his glory...and there is a lot of it! Rock is being assigned to escort Laila Lewis as she makes a journey to Washington DC to retrieve historical artifacts. It has been two years since Rock's life was turned upside down and he hasn't felt the need for any intimacy or even a casual touch, t ...more

Being Emerald is the 3rd book in Sylvia Ryan's New Atlanta series. Dystopian in nature, it deals with life in the USA after a pandemic has destroyed most of the world's population. The people have been divided into sectors in accordance with repopulation laws. The "Gov" is attempting to breed out unfavourable/weak traits in the people. Rock and Laila have both earned the prestigious Emerald designation after having grown up in the un

My Thoughts: I didn’t read the previous 2 books in this series, so maybe my likeness could have been love. This was a good read but there were several moments when I was completely lost. This world is new to me, right along with the characters.

The chemistry between Laila and Rock was perfect. It made all of the other unknown variables to this story perfect for me. Rock just wants out of New Atlanta, Laila wants to succeed in retrieving the most priceless artifact in the

I knew as soon as I finished chapter one that this book is part of a series but found myself captivated by the story that I continued reading. Rock is a bodyguard assigned to protect Laila on her mission to retrieve priceless artifacts in the Onyx zone (the world has been devastated and now people live in zones and have a zone band tattooed on their arm). Rock and Laila live in the Emerald zone (a top ranking zone) though both are from the overpopulated Amber zone. Both miss their families and

WOW! This series just keeps getting better and better!

I had my fingers crossed that the next installment in this series was going to be Rock's story and I was beyond excited to learn it was!

From start to finish this is a gut wrenching read that will leave you emotionally drained yet begging for more!

I honestly love all of Sylvia's books but I think this one was my favorite by far! If I could give it more stars I would in a heartbeat!

This was the hardest book I've ever written. I wanted Rock's story to be epic, and then had trouble finding the words to make it that way. I guess every author has writer's block from time to time, but this book was like teasing words out of a block of granite, a true labor of love, (and sometimes not love). Anyway, in the end, everything seemed to work itself out.
I'm currently finishing up the last book to this series, Being Free. It's Journey's story. Hers was easier to write. Thank God.

Being Emerald is the third book in Sylvia Ryan’s New Atlanta series. That being said, this is the first book I have read by this author so I was a little lost at first. From what I can figure out the United States was decimated by a virus. Fast Forward 25 years and the books is set in New Atlanta where a government is in place and in an effort to ensure only the strongest genes are passed on. To achieve this goal they have created a social system where people are separated based on their ...more

* Being Emerald is part of a continuing series and should not be read as a standalone. If you must, you must, but I think you'd be cheating yourself. =) *

Being Emerald is as different from the first two books in this series as they were from each other. Rock is... 'intense' is not nearly extreme enough a descriptor for this man. He is complex, unpredictable, overwhelming, stubborn as hell, and addictive. The sex scenes between Rock and

The third book in the New Atlanta series is Rock's book (yay, finally)!!

I believe, in order to really enjoy and understand the "zones", this should be read after Being Amber and Being Sapphire. Not that you won't like this as a stand-alone, but Rock's story has been a long time coming -doesn't it just feel SO much better to get "relief" after an intense build-up? This is exactly what Being Emerald is for me. Exquisite relief!

This is book 3 in the New Atlanta Series and I recommend reading the previous books first to fully understand what is happening. I will just come right out and say this is my least favorite book of the series, and I think a lot of that is purely personal preference.

The story line with Morgan and the Resistance moved forward some, but I felt like it was background noise where we get snippets, but it isn’t the focus of this story li

Ok, so I haven't read any of the previous in the series, nor have I read this author, BUT I liked this book! And I've read some things and everyone loves Rock, and now I do too! What can I say about this amazing book? I laughed, I cried, I argued with Rock on Laila's behalf. As the resistance against Morgan and all he stands for continues on Laila and Rock have their parts to carry out, missions made even more dangerous as their love for each other grows.

As we know from reading being amber and being sapphire Morgan is a big ole bag of crazy with a side of madness. This madness runs deep and in this rollercoaster of a book we see just how deep it runs.

Rock is back, large and in charge. Ok, I know that sounds goofy, but I really liked him and was anxiously waiting for him to have a story.

Rock is assigned to protect Laila, who is an expert in old documents and she must retrieve and restore the original constitution. Unfortunately these docs are in the Onyx Zone which will require some finesse since the Onyx Zone will attempt to kill anybody from Morgan’s Army.

The energy between them is electric and won’t be stopped. When he finds out that sh

It's taken me a little while to get around to reading this book mainly due to other things happening; but I finally managed to read this book. And I enjoyed it.

I have to say it took me a little bit of time to get into the story mainly as it starts virtually straight after the previous book (Being Sapphire); and it was a while ago that I read this book plus it is also about Rock who appeared in the first book. But once I was into the story I enjoyed it. The two characters, Laila Lewis and Rock R
Truthful I am left feeling all over the place after reading this book. Some parts for me were 2 stars, some 3 and others 4. Yet overall I was mostly just enjoying the journey.

While each book in the series can be read as a standalone, it is probably advisable to read the book in order. As this is the first book I can read by this author and this series, I was left a little lost in some parts of the story. I believe I my have enjoyed it more if I had read the other book in the series.

I hope this was not the last book in the series. when I started the series I not expecting much. I am not a huge romance book fan but wanted something different to read. I did not plan to get so into the story that I would be reading a new series of books back to back. The story of the post pandemic life and the separate zone designations had me hooked right from the start of book one. I love how each book tells the story of another
This series gets better and better! I was looking forward to Rock's story and Ms Ryan didn't disappoint and gave him a story (and a woman) he really deserved. Leila was a great character and her chemistry with Rock really resonated through the book.
This was a 4.5star read for me and the only reason it didn't get a 5 is that I would have liked to have read more about Leila's talents and the historical artifacts she was sent to retrieve.

The author does a great job of creating a world that is futuristic, but not so out there you can't understand what's going on. The characters are really well thought out. I liked Layla's spirit. Rock drove me crazy at times, I would get so angry at him. Then the next second I'd be rooting him on. He's the alpha male we all love to hate, and hate to love. lol
The sex was anything but boring. It was hot and well written. Who doesn't like a steamy scene with their romance!

This was an intense futuristic type romance between Rock and Laila that had heart wrenching emotional scenes, dang hot sex scenes, and bad guys you loved to hate. It was action packed and kept you guessing and with no cliffhanger ending, everything was wrapped up with a big pretty bow. Loved it!
