This is so the worst book known to man. I would say it is MIB meet Naked Gun 2 1/2. I really can not believe this book. Of course I choose it to read with my sister after getting into the Maximum Ride series. He is after all a reputable writer. Everyone has a few bad novels right. I even looked past the upset with the "Final Warning" in the Max Ride series.
Anyway words can not describe how awful this book is. Suffice it to say I will not be finishing it. Can't even fini...more

This book was, well...strange, to say the least. It wasn't what I was expecting at all. This is my first James Patterson "family" book, but really, no one over twelve would find this very interesting. It's like the authors are writing for eight-year-olds, at most. Some of my main concerns with this novel are:

1. The Short Chapters. In his adult thrillers, the two or three page chapters are used very nicely. They're all like mini cliffhangers, and make you want to read on. In...more

James Patterson has teamed up with Michael Ledwidge to write another young adult novel. James Patterson has already been successful in the young adult world with his wildly popular Maximum Ride series. James and Michael have worked together on two recent adult bestsellers - THE QUICKIE and STEP ON A CRACK.

THE DANGEROUS DAYS OF DANIEL X is an extremely fast read. Patterson’s traditional short chapters make you feel like your are flying through the pages. The story is fun to read, ...more

Well ... honestly, I don't know what to say. After being terribly disappointed by the fourth Maximum Ride installment, I picked this one up in the hopes that maybe Patterson would start off a series that was just as good ... that maybe had the potential not to get ruined as MR did. Unfortunately, I don't really see this series going anywhere. I swear this book was one of the worst I have read in my entire life, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if it was secretly written by a twelve-year-old. ...more

Wow. I can't believe that I am giving a Patterson book such a low rating, but...
I did finish this book, but about 20 pages in I knew it was not going to be good. I had absolutely no attachment to the main character whatsoever, and the whole gist of the story did not interest me. (And it's not like I don't like the idea of aliens and whatnot...I have been loving Stephanie Meyer's books...)
Overall, a HUGE disappointment. I have loved James Patterson for years, picking up every sing...more

I understand what James Patterson is trying to do here - duplicate the success he's had to Maximum Ride by creating another fantastical, out-there series that can be marketed to a YA audience. It's even part of his "Pageturner" category, where "special care has been taken with the language and content" so that it is appropriate for all ages.

I would like to say, that despite this "care," it featured a seriously nasty fight scene gross enough that I had to...more

From the first paragraph of THE DANGEROUS DAYS OF DANIEL X, the reader is intrigued with what is to come. James Patterson, in collaboration with Michael Ledwidge, creates a unique science fiction story that will especially appeal to the younger male population.

Daniel is only three years old when his parents are murdered in the kitchen above him. The murder isn't a typical murder. It's one most of us wouldn't believe. You see, Daniel...more

The other night I picked up (and after half the book abandoned) the new James Patterson book The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. If I could give it less than one star, I would!
Now, I like reading 'childrens' and YA books on occasion, so I don't have a problem with that. I do however, fault it for writing 'down' to the level of an 8-year old with ADD problems. Seriously, they insult the intelligence of their targeted readers with this one.
Each chapter was a page and a half (of a book tha...more

I'm going to try to make this as no-nonsense as possible. So, to start, I will make a statement that now determines part of my new reading criteria for a book: James Patterson has lost any skill he ever had, trading anything that might have been good for the cash he so desires. Therefore, TDDODX is not great, but it doesn't suck either. It is much faster paced than Maximum Ride and reads without bore (also like MR), but its premise is sloppy, hasty, and out of place. Aliens? Come on. On to...more

Here is my nice review for our library's blog:

Daniel was born with the power to create. His abilities include being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind and to re-create himself in any shape he chooses. His mission: he is an Alien Hunter. From the day that his parents were murdered before him, he has used his unique gifts to hunt down villainous aliens on earth until he can close in on their killer.

This book combines the humorous quips of Spiderman with th...more

Well, I didn't like this book from James Patterson, even though I loved some of his others. With this said, authors have their down sides, too. There comes a good one--a *really* good one--and then comes a bad.

I love James Patterson--I think he's amazing, but I don't think that this was one of his best works. I was not into it, but being OCD, I made myself finish it. I didn't feel attached to Daniel, like I do to some of other characters from different books.

An amazingly quick read. It felt more like a saturday morning cartoon than a novel. It was light and teen-friendly without worrying about anything inappropriate. It deals with Daniel, an alien-hunter and his exploits in hunting a particular alien. It has short, choppy chapters and I read the whole thing (200+ pages) waiting for a plane in about 2 hours. It has a "Men in Black" kind of feel to it - almost comic-like, rather than serious. But I can't get over how fast it reads. I ...more

Daniel X is pretty much like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" meets "Men in Black" but it is not half as good as either of those two media efforts.

The main character's super powers are very unbelievable, and they leave the reader wondering, if this guy is so powerful he should be able to defeat the bad guys with both hands tied behind his back, but I guess it would only be a short story if that was the case.

It would seem that Patterson is someone who just do...more

The boys are going to like this one...aliens, gore, and a superhero 15 year old...I'll definitely order a copy for the media center.

If you are a 7th grade boy you will probably enjoy this remarkably poorly written tale of an alien-on-earth superhero. The repetitive sentences - Daniel would think something and then say the same thing out loud. He's 15 but can do pretty much anything and makes Superman seem like a bit player. It's a bit much. Actually, it's more than a bit. I listened to the audiobook and about the only positive thing I can say is that it's short. Patterson is far too condescending to his audience who isn't su...more

I was disappointed in this book only because I didnt realize this was for younger children. I would say that even older teens are too old for this one.

I shouldn't have expected much, after the bitter disappointment of MR 4. Sure, JP's writing is still down-to-earth intriguing and page-turning, but he doesn't have enough of it. The events of this book slipped by too fast, and we hear too little description of passing time and scenes.
Daniel was an idiot.
He had too many powers (and ridiculously unrealistic) and if he bothered to use them he'd rule the universe, or JP didn't properly define the power-limit for readers. Daniel went t...more

I read and adored the 'Maximum Ride' series by Patterson, it was better than I ever expected. I added him to my list of authors I like. Back in September I gave this book to my Teen Book Group as their read of the month, half of them loved it, the rest hated it. I intended to read it but didn't get round to it. I've had it on my pile ever since. I kept putting it off because I figured once I'd read the first one I would want to read the whole series. But someone requested the book and I thought ...more

Daniel x, is a very adventureous, action-packed book. Daniel is a alien hunter who has secret abilities such as being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind and to create them into any shape of his choice. But Daniel isnt your average human, he is the Earth's protector.

Meh. Maximum Ride...I mean the siblings from Witch and Wizard...I mean a new supremely gifted kid, Daniel X, fights evil scientists evil government evil aliens with cynical, yet self-deprecating attitude, timely wisecracks, 2-page chapters, and inconsistent plotting.

I thought Daniel's mind friends were weird, especially his "romance" with the "genuine" girl created by his mind over matter powers. The bad alien somehow knew Daniel was hundreds of miles away and...more

There has been a lot of talk lately about how boys have different tastes in books than girls. If you are looking for a great book for an eleven-year-old boy, you should definitely try The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. It is one of the best books my son and I have read together in a long time.
James Patterson is a well-known author for writing great action and suspense. There is plenty of action and suspense in Daniel X, but it isn't too scary for kids. Daniel is an alien who look...more

Every so often a book makes me angry because it is so poorly written. The Dangerous Days of Daniel X is one of these books.

I read this book to screen it for my classroom library. In particular, one of my fourth grade boys (we'll call him Tom) refuses to read anything but action books. At the beginning of the school year, Tom unabashedly exclaimed that he hated to read. I made it my personal quest to change him and asked him what kinds of video games he likes. He said, "I ...more

i actually really liked this book i think that it was fun, exciting and full of emotion. I think that James Patterson really did put a lot of effort into this book which made it so good. It had many twists and turn there was mainly only two problems: the super powerful alien that he has to defeat and he has to save these kids who are being held captive by this alien kidnapper who has been using them as slave. Daniel did recieve a lot of heart break because his parents died and it turns out h...more

I read this because it's an NJ Battle of the Books title for 2010-2011 and expected to like it because I liked Maximum Ride well enough. Wrong. The more I read of this, the more resentful I was that I had to finish it. I was bothered by the condescending tone of the first person narrator, who makes asides directed to "you" to draw in readers and demonstrate how in touch with kids the authors are. There are, however occasional SAT type words thrown in (e.g. "extant"). The shor...more
