In seinem neuesten Krimi klärt Montalbano den Mord an der jungen, schönen und reichen Arztgattin Michela Licalzi auf. Der Commissario arbeitet gleichermaßen mit Herz und Verstand. Der Autor hat eine Figur herausgearbeitet, die sympathisch ist und die der Leser einfach mögen muss.<p>  Ihm zur Seite stehen Mitarbeiter, denen jener eigenwillige, unorthodoxe Charakter fehlt, der Montalbano so unverwechselbar macht. Ohne jegliche Arroganz lässt er auch Hinweise und Gedankengänge einfacher Zimmermädchen gelten. Der Leser wird in ein spannendes Detektivspiel miteingebunden. Puzzleteil für Puzzleteil setzt sich zusammen, um nach anfänglichem Gelingen doch als Fata Morgana zu verschwimmen.<p>  Camilleri legt Köder aus, die der Leser begierig schnappt und auf die falsche Fährte lockt. Michela Licalzi wurde von vielen Männern begehrt. Als sie nackt in ihrer Villa aufgefunden wird, deutet alles auf einen Sexualmord hin. Zu diesem Verdachtsmoment passt der Lebenswandel, den die Frau geführt zu haben schien. Sie residierte regelmäßig in denselbem Hotel, blieb über Nacht weg und kehrte erst im Morgengrauen wieder zurück. Nach und nach wird das Geheimnis um die Dame aus besseren Kreisen gelüftet.
